Despite it's appearance here, it was not renewed for a second series with ratings having by the final episode. Benidorm continued it's strong performance for ITV with its seventh series, being their top rated comedy. The show is based in an all-inclusive hotel in Benidorm. Dickensian is an ambitious drama from BBC One that brings together characters that were created by Charles Dickens in one setting, no matter which book they came from. The first series consisted of 20 episodes, the first four of which aired over the Christmas period in 2015 and so it may be seen that it cheated its way into the Top 40, especially with the ratings dropping to around 3m in 2016. Foyle's War is a detective series that is set around the Second World War. It aired its final series in 2015, with high costs being cited as the reason for the cancellation. However, it had been cancelled previously in 2007 but popular demand brought it back. Vera is the fourth programme in this section to feature a detective aspect, as it focuses on DCI Vera Stanhope who works in Northumberland. The fifth series aired in 2015 to continuing success.

It focuses on two co-workers in a Car Share on their travels both to and from work. Safe House sees a former policeman move to the Lake District where he is tasked with providing a safe house for a family under threat. Countryfile continues to go from strength to strength, managing to beat The X Factor on certain occasions and there is no doubt that the show will be even higher in next year's countdown. The show reports on rural and environmental issues in the United Kingdom.

Emmerdale continues to be the UK's third biggest soap and it was heavily praised last year for its quality. The show is based in a Yorkshire village. The Syndicate returned after a two year break and focused on an old stately home in Scarborough. It follows a syndicate who go on to win the lottery but significant consequences follow.

c: Joined: 12 March 2014 Posts: 13,152 User: 20,692	I don't really watch loads of TV (only trashy stuff like Geordie Shore and Ex on the Beach) and a few competition shows/documentaries but Peter Kay's Car Share was surprisingly great, they had great chemistry and the girl especially was hilarious, glad it's getting another series.

From what I've seen, Emmerdale is the most consistent out of the three big soaps in regards to ratings (and easily quality-wise too). Good to see it's only 200k down on 2014 and it had a higher lowest figure; just a shame a peak of 7.4m is kinda lacklustre. Consistent for The Syndicate too, but this series was definitely down on the quality of the first two (lost its grittiness for a start), although still great to watch.

The show is a big variety entertainment show, the only show that says 'don't just watch the ads, WIN them!' The Casual Vacancy was a TV adaptation of JK Rowling's first post-Harry Potter novel. The series centered on a quaint English village, which held deep divisions between the rich and poor, children and their parents and wives against husbands. Inspector George Gently is set in the 1960s and it is another detective series focused in the North East of England. Still Open All Hours is a sequel to the classic 'Open All Hours' which sees many characters return, including Granville. It aired for a full series across December 2014 and January 2015 after a successful Christmas special in 2013. It focuses on events in a corner shop. Black Work starred Sheridan Smith as a policewoman who sets out to discover who murdered her husband, an undercover officer.

I'm really looking forward to the BBC's adaptions of The Cuckoo's Calling. The 'Robert Galbraith' stories are far superior to The Casual Vacancy and I think the BBC will do the books justice! Apparently JK Rowling herself has written the script for The Cuckoo's Calling so it should be pretty good and true to the original story!

I've read The Cuckoo's Calling and absolutely LOVED it so I'm very excited to see that adaptation. I'm currently reading The Silkworm and I'm intrigued about how they're going to do adapt the novels, whether they do a series of each book, spend one episode on a book, do it Sherlock style of 90 mins each or do two-parters of each book.

Doc Martin continued its bi-annual return with its seventh series in 2015. The show is set in a small village in Cornwall focusing on the sole GP of the town, who is incredibly grumpy and bad-mannered. The Apprentice is another long-running show that continues to be successful and the latest series saw a number of controversies, with one contestant quitting and another failing to make an appearance on 'You're Fired' after being heavily critical of the show's producers. It sees a number of contestants fighting for the chance to be a business partner to Lord Sugar. Last Tango in Halifax is a romantic drama focusing on the relationship between two older people who decide to start a relationship after being apart for 60 years. Poldark was first shown in 1975 but returned for a reboot in 2015, both are based on a series of novels. The show explores the return of a man who has returned to Cornwall after fighting in the army and sees him try to gain control of the Cornish mines. A shirtless Aidan Turner attracted a lot of media attention.

BuzzJack Idol Joined: 8 December 2010 Posts: 50,952 User: 12,472	If Kathy's return was actually exciting and she hadn't settled back on the square within 2 weeks of meeting Ian for the first time in 9 years, I imagine the ratings would have been better for the Autumn period (in fact, September had the worst monthly average when it's usually July that gets hit badly - and that month performed as one of the best in 2015!).

I Drink Wine Joined: 12 April 2015 Posts: 10,485 User: 21,753	July did well because, IIRC, that month was when the Lucy murder investigation ramped up and Max was convicted. September suffered from the constant clashes with Emmerdale and it seems the show never recovered until after Christmas.

It was again created to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Agatha Christie, with the story that it is based on often being named as one of the authors best. The Great Comic Relief Bake Off saw a huge increase in ratings last year as the original show continues to explode popularity. In aid of Comic Relief, the show sees four different celebrities compete to see who is the best baker. Doctor Foster was a huge breakout hit, with the drama exploring a local GP suspecting her husband of having an affair and it follows her quest of finding out the truth. The show was aided by word of mouth, allowing for a nail-biting finale to reach over 10m viewers.
