Biography
Elena Jane "Ellie" Goulding (born 30 December 1986) is an English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Lyonshall, Herefordshire. Her career began when she met record producer Starsmith and Frankmusik, and she was later spotted by Jamie Lillywhite, who later became her manager and A&R. After signing to Polydor Records in July 2009, Goulding released her debut extended play, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, later that year.

In 2010, she became the second artist to both top the BBC's annual Sound of... poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards in the same year. Goulding released her debut studio album, Lights, in 2010. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 copies in the UK. Her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" reached number two in the UK in December 2010 and on 29 April 2011 she performed the song at the wedding reception of Prince William and Catherine Middleton at Buckingham Palace. The album's title track, "Lights", was released in the US in March 2011, and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Goulding's second album Halcyon was released in October 2012, "Anything Could Happen" preceded the album as the lead single. Halcyon debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, and, after 65 weeks, reached number one. Halcyon debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 Chart, her first top ten debut in the United States. Halcyon Days, a repackaged edition of Halcyon, was released on 23 August 2013, it included new singles including "Burn", which became her first UK number-one single in the same month. At the 2014 BRIT Awards she received the award for Best British Female. By the end of 2013, she has sold an estimated 4 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide.

Biography
Every major city around the world has that one guy, who's always on top of the freshest sounds and most cutting edge records. Enter Michiel Thomassen, professionally known as Mike Mago, who as label head honcho of Amsterdam-based BMKLTSCH RCRDS has been curating what's hot and what's not from Dutch soil and beyond for several years now. Or, as he likes to put it himself, “it’s not about the genre, it’s about the taste!” And for a while now, his taste and thus the profile & musical course of his record label have been evolving.

Late 2012, Mike decides to shift the focus from his label to his solo artist career by keeping the releases of his label BMKLTSCH RCRDS on a low frequency and meanwhile slowly changing its direction and defining the label's profile with his own releases. He starts putting out some solid releases like 'The Power' and 'The Soul', which quickly start making some waves in the blogosphere. He then signs 'The Beat' EP, on which he works with Canadian spoken-word artist Dwayne Morgan, to Fake Blood's label Blood Music. Initial promo results and specialist plays on BBC Radio 1 strengthen Mike’s belief that he has chosen the right course. As the release for 'The Beat' EP gets pushed back a little, Mike returns to the studio to try and create another release for his own imprint to bridge the cap to 'The Beat' EP. The results of those efforts deliver the game changer 'The Show'.

'Uptown Funk' is far better than 'Blurred Lines'. It's not offensive for starters and it's a great feel good record.

They both stand out to the majority of other current songs (especially in terms of production) so that may be factor.

He's probably going to be behind Mark and Bruno for many weeks.

Quite possibly, but ah well.

I'm sure if you look hard enough (i.e. at all) you will find plenty of long running #2s you hate and #1s you love as well. tongue.gif

I do agree, and you're right, it's just a little frustrating! tongue.gif

Ellie releasing early is a 50/50 for me. Finally Uptown Funk will be overthrown but a potential #1 for Gravity has been snatched away.

It will at least add to what would have otherwise been a dead week like 2 weeks ago.

Numb/Encore just missed out on being played as the #41 track! ohmy.gif

Take Me To Church came on in a club last night. Killed the dancefloor (in a bad way).

What a strange choice to play lol?!

Looking at Mark Ronsons chart history he really has turned it around. His 2007 era looked like his peak and his return in 2010 with Bang Bang Bang looked like people didn't enjoy it much and he's changed style and this is his peak now!
