4th July 2021

It's a second week on top for 30-year-old Banderas under-rated goodie This Is Your Life, the duo being Communards supporting before having a good go at a pop career that didn't pay off, the album was pretty good, though. 45 years on from the 200th anniversary of the Declaration Of Independence, and The Bee Gees are still getting top 3 tracks as a great remix/sampling of More Than A Woman hits 2, beating the 1978 Tavares version which peaked at 3, and the Bee Gees own Saturday Night Fever version peaked at 4 twice in the 90's and 21st century as an oldie, and is at least their 24th top 3.

Paloma Faith makes it a 4th top 10 from the latest album, Nathan Evans gets his first top 20, The Veronicas get a 3rd top 40, Diana Ross gets a first top 40 with new material since 1999, and extends her span to 53 years (but really it would be 57 years if I'd been charting in 1964, as I loved Baby Love as a 6-year-old). Highest new entry is the old Brenda Lee track from 1963, which has taken a whopping 58 years to make my charts, given I'd not really noticed it before until Marvel's Loki had it over this week's closing credits, and what a gem it is, one of Brenda Lee's best records, and only her second oldie to chart, apart from THAT christmas annual. It first made my charts in 1976 in a Mary Hopkin version, but dates back to 1950 when French chanteuse legend Edith Piaf wrote and recorded Hymne A L'Amour after the love of her life was killed in an aircrash.

Mabel keeps her run of chart entries going, as she's catching up on her mum's chart-listings, Miley Cyrus does a sprawling and tasteful version of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, with friends like Elton John on board, and a couple of debuts to note for Mentis and KSI. Mentis sounds like a super-villain from the comics, but I expect that's not the case.

Oh no, I spotted an error!!!

You were obviously stuck deciding whether to put Laura Mvula at #6 or #5 and somehow transposed it as #65 sad.gif

Oh no! Poor Laura losing out like that laugh.gif It's a good track, she's great (seen her in concert), and it's still growing in my affection, it's just there's so many tracks around I love, everything is about 20 or 30 places too low down the bottom end. As I've said before I'm a musical slag I'll go with anyone that takes my fancy laugh.gif ohmy.gif

Hey John! hi.gif

Monster going top 10 cheer.gif this really seems to be a favourite from the album on Buzzjack but honestly I would have rsthered a different pick as single.
Told You So is a bop and I like that fact it's had a big jump here. Bodes well for it's future performance!
Heartbreak Anthem's run here is absolutely dire John! I am so so so disappointed.
Love Again re-entering though *.* I actually expected this to have a short chart run on my own chart but it's really impressing me.
The Walls Are Way Too Thin Is a bop! Does it sample every breath you take or is that my imagination.
Bad Habits with only a ten place climb. Not good enough tongue.gif
It's good to see Let Them Know & Holiday both enter. Both very good songs!

Great chart happy.gif

Was kind of expecting to see Life Is Life by Opus back in your chart, on an advert at the moment so is back in the UK itunes chart.

I think, along with the Falco, Baltimora and Modern Talking songs, its a very good mid-80s euro-pop hit that charted in the UK.

Anyway, Mentis - Excuses is good, I like the echo vocal effects which make it convincingly sound very 90s. Let them Know by Mabel is good fun I suppose but I do prefer her previous singles especially Mad Love which were much cooler sounding R&B, Let Them Know is a bit cheesy sounding in comparison I think.

Hey James! smile.gif

Monster's more of a grower, but it's lodged itself nicely in my brain now laugh.gif

Love Again would have done better if it had come out earlier I think, but I still would have opted for Boys Will Be Boys as single ahead of the last 2 smile.gif

Have to say I never noticed Walls Are Way Too Thin's similarity to Every Breath You Take, so prob not a sample, just "inspired by" biggrin.gif

Youre going to be even less happy with Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits in my charts this week then... Oops! laugh.gif I like it, but Radio 2 are hammering it a bit and hearing it a lot isn't making me love it that much more... rolleyes.gif

Cheers! cool.gif

Hi Snakey! smile.gif

I like Live Is Life but it was never an essential oldie, so one chart run is about right, I tend to re-chart tracks I under-estimated a bit or still love biggrin.gif Now Falco, Baltimora & Modern Talking are all tracks I would re-chart with an itunes excuse! I've had a Modern Talking UK flop as one my BJSC potentials for years, but never got round to it laugh.gif

I didn't like the Mabel track initially cos of the cheese-factor, but having heard it on radio 2 quite a few times it's grown on me now, it's pretty catchy smile.gif

Cheers! cool.gif
