As they’ve all released their debut now, who has had the biggest debut etc..?
I was thinking 01 ZAYN - PILLOWTALK 02 Liam Payne - Strip That Down 03 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times 04 Louis Tomlinson - Just Hold On 05 Niall Horan - This Town Obvs second singles are different, ZAYN’s flopped iirc, and Harry’s performance has been a disaster whereas Niall and Louis have both had big second singles. I wonder how Liam will do. |

It will be really interesting to see how Liam's second single performs. Strip That Down had some of the worst debut sales out of all 5 boys, but went on to outsell them and in less time (other than Pillowtalk obviously). Hopefully the public reacts as well to Bedroom Floor and he can rack up a second big hit. Get Low's performance was certainly underwhelming but I think it was hurt by how well Strip That Down was still doing, especially in the US where the song hadn't even peaked yet.
Also I'd say that This Town had more worldwide success than Just Hold On. If we're just talking UK success though than This Town was definitely the least successful. |

I feel like Liam has longevity on his side, which is something that the rest don't have (Niall is getting close). If he can pull off something as catchy as Strip That Down then he can manage a successful second single internationally, even if it doesn't reach those heights in the UK.

I feel like "Get Low" was hindered more by "Stay" refusing to die out in the US rather than "Strip That Down" gaining traction.

Get Low was hindered by being exceedingly average imo
 PILLOWTALK is easily the biggest of the debuts, and I'd say Sign of the Times and Strip That Down are pretty level pegging. Strip That Down is obviously the more enduring hit of the two, but Sign of the Times peaked higher and was critically acclaimed (and its sales are impressive for a song of its ilk, a song like that by a lesser known artist would've gone nowhere even close to #1). The battle for 4th and 5th is interesting - Just Hold On was bigger in the UK but This Town was muuuuuch bigger in the US! Makes it difficult to compare. |
