Joel Corry & MNEK should safely remain at #1 for a third week. Leading this week's releases are Billie Eilish's new single my future, and Sam Smith & Burna Boy with My Oasis, plus new tracks from Bastille/Graham Coxon, Disclosure/Fatoumata Diawara, McFly and The Vamps
Taylor Swift's folklore could spend another week at #1, although Dublin band Fontaines D.C.'s second album A Hero's Death may put up a fight. Other new releases include Alanis Morrissette's Such Pretty Forks in the Road, Creeper's Sex, Death & The Infinite Void and Max Richter's Voices

Just to let everyone know, there won’t be a First Look Chart this week due to Radio 1’s Dance Weekend!
Go on Fontaines!
I hope Dua can make the Top40 this week!!
fingers crossed Little Mix climb
Will First Look just play dance tunes like the Official Chart did on Friday?
I doubt it given the Top 20 won’t have enough dance tracks in it will it? Happy to let the chart stans have some normal music I guess for an hour 😘
Happy day get 1st look
First Look time, we'll see what sort of show we get!
20 Ava Max - Kings & Queens
I thought this hit ACR already?!!!
This is the 7th week in a row Kings & Queens has made the First Look top 20 - and it's only stayed there once!
19 The Weeknd - Blinding Lights
Blinding Lights slaying still!!!
18 Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande - Rain On Me
17 Becky Hill & Sigala - Heaven On My Mind
Rain On Me back on top 20
This is the weakest one from Becky Hill...I just wish it was more punchy!!!!
16 Nathan Dawe feat. Jaykae - Flowers
15 Topic & A7S - Breaking Me
Flowers will avoid ACR again yippee
Breaking Me
And I'll be singing lalalallalaalal
14 Chris Brown & Young Thug - Go Crazy
I thought they weren't doing the First Look due to the Dance Weekend and it wasn't on the schedule. Literally, just tuned Radio 1 just now.
Chris Brown having hits in 2020 with terrible song is surprising!!!!
13 DJ Khaled feat. Drake - GREECE
Great to see Becky Hill climbing. HOMM is really growing on me now!
is this what straight people stream?!!!
12 DaBaby feat. Roddy Ricch - ROCKSTAR
Rockstar on ACR this high.
11 Headie One & Drake - Only You Freestyle
cardigan top 10?
I didn't realise it was on, look like another bit of a clearout this week.
this is so annoying omg
Why got feeling you are my sunshine in top 10 as pre order iTunes full out now
10 AJ Tracey feat. MoStack - Dinner Guest
Wow! Dinner Guest still doing well
Dinner Guest still top 10 ...love to see it!!!
This will probably be another escapee from ACR
9 Jubël feat. NEIMY - Dancing in the Moonlight
Yassssssssssssssssss Jubel top 10
This is cute
very summery!!!!
Hope this is able to keep top 10 come Friday!
poor cardigan, and I oop--
8 AJ Tracey & Mabel - West Ten
I think there are 2 new entries still to come. Billie Eilish and ?
Secrets climb agin
this is nice but not as good as Dinner Guest (I think I've said the same thing last week lol).
Looks like all 3 Taylor Swift's singles have left the top 10 building, poor Sam
7 Regard & RAYE - Secrets
Secrets
still holding up very well!!!
Joseph happy can get he watermelon sugar back top 5
6 Nathan Dawe feat. KSI - Lighter
I was expecting this to remain top 5.
Hope lighter jump head watermelon sugar by end week
this is nothing groundbreaking really...surprised it debuted as high as #4 last week!!!
Amazing to see Rain on Me top 20 and whatever that bizarre new entry is, it'll drop below.
Hope not Leeds
So only 100% dance played on last Friday's chart yet the rule is ignored on today's First Look countdown even though Dance Weekend is still not finished. Can they not make their minds up?
5 Gareth Malone's Great British Home Chorus - You Are My Sunshine
4 Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar
They snubbed Gareth
Why did they skip the Gareth Malone track?
Wonder if Harry could end up at #3 this week? I'd be surprised if Billie held up this high
and for one second I thought Gareth Gates is back on the charts (I had to google to make sure who Gareth Malone is).
Is Gareth Malone actually going to chart this Friday then?
Watermelon Sugar
Summer anthem 2020!!!!
3 Billie Eilish - my future
I reckon Gareth could stay top 40 this week with an EP out
Gareth Malone never made the Top 100 last week despite reaching Number 10 on last weeks First Look Chart
excited to be listening this for the first time!!!
This is good but not that good.
Number 3 today but I think it will end up at #6 or #7 on Friday.
my future
I thought Taylor's songs would've stuck around in the top 10 today.
sure this will fall thru the week, not doing that well on streaming
think Nathan/KSI will end up #3 and Harry #4
This Billie song doesn't do a great deal for me
No Taylor? LOL, OK enough is enough in the UK really the hate for her.
oh surprisingly this has a beat after that slow start.
Not her best but still pretty good...it sounds almost it's taken something from Amy's album!!!
The lyrics for My Future are really nice but the song is a bit disappointing, doesn't really go nowhere
I'd expect Billie's song to drop and Watermelon Sugar to clinch No.3
2 Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo - Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)
1 Joel Corry feat. MNEK - Head & Heart
Take You Dancing is so much better than this.
Savage Love is just ok...got bored of it very fast!!!
Head and Heart is so catchy ...this probably be #1 during whole August!!!!
sadly I think Nathan/KSI are doing better than Watermelon Sugar on all fronts
Why are they playing this slow version?
This version isn't doing anything for me.
Massive streams this weekend though, maybe could do 80k combined this week?
As if that 'Dancing In The Moonlight' cover is poised to be too 10.
Billie is also such a total bore.
Has anyone established what's actually happened with Taylor Swift here?
Hopefully the Taylor streaming down gives Fontaines more of a chance in the albums!
Genuinely quite sad that none of the Taylor tracks have stayed in the top-twenty. I like Cardigan but I love August a lot more (maybe that should have been the lead...)
Also for the life of me I don’t underhand why Watermelon Sugar has never been discounted to 59p? Doing so would net the song a lot more sales and help Harry get his second UK number one..
Big meh from me this evening :/
I'm positive Cardigan will be comfortably top 20 come Friday, maybe even top 15
Don't think Taylor's album is holding up well enough on streaming to be #1 again :/
think it will be Fontaines for certain and won't even be close
Also Folklore has been increased to £10.99 (from £8.99 last week) on iTunes..
Bit odd
Comparing the Spotify positions for Taylor's 3rd through 12th songs (the important ones for determining album streaming sales) with where Juice WRLD was at this stage in his second week (where he ended up selling 11.8k):
Taylor: 35, 43, 48, 52, 68, 69, 74, 75, 79, 82
Juice: 26, 35, 38, 43, 77, 80, 83, 89, 96, 101
Given that Taylor will have significantly higher pure sales than Juice and her streaming numbers are looking similar if not slightly better than Juice's (I think she is doing similarly to or better than Juice was at this stage on Apple as well) I would say she's looking like maybe selling 15k second week? If that's right Fontaines D.C. will need to more than double their first week sales from their last album to beat her. Not impossible (especially if I am overestimating Taylor) but I still think it's more likely than not that Taylor will hang on. Will probably be closer than I originally thought though.
I hope becky hill and harry styles can hold them positions on friday. Watermelon sugar really has turned into a huge hit for harry.
Not sure where to ask this but are Scottish sales counted twice, to the UK and Scottish charts, or just the Scottish charts?
I like Taylor’s album, but I’m not surprised that Cardigan has dived out of the top 10, it’s summer and good weather at the moment, no one is adding Cardigan to their summer playlists.
Folklore is a more suited to Autumn/Winter.
Billie Eilish,
Shame we had to endure that.
how on earth is billie #3?!?!??
I always take Sunday with a massive pinch of salt when it's only been 2 days and there's always a ton of data missing. Tomorrow's will portray a better picture of where Billie is going.
cos she's got the advantage of good downloads (the first look chart considers Fri & Sat downloads but only Fri streaming), she'll likely be out of the top five tomorrow.
Great start for Billie. Top 5 debut hopefully Secured.
Expecting Gareth to be out of the top 40/75 after today’s update
Every time Chris Brown seems to be finally declining in relevance he always somehow finds away to get another hit, see also last year when that boring No Guidance was big cos it had a Drake feature.
Does anyone know how to listen to the first look segment yesterday? Obviously searching for first look only brings up the week before so what programme is it on for the first look part?
Star^ thank you!
Omg Creeper! Great to see Fontaines at #1 today
1. Fontaines DC
2. Creeper
3. Taylor Swift
4. Alanis Morissette
5. The Psychedelic Furs
7. Paul McCartney - Flaming Pie (reissue)
14. Max Richter
Gareth Malone #17
More likely to stay Top 40 is Paul Woolford at #38
I hope Fontaines DC are safe for number 1.

From MW
The Official Charts Midweek Sales Flash is in, and Fontaines DC are off to a flyer in the albums chart.
The Dublin band's second album A Hero's Death has raced clear at No.1 with sales of 14,472, almost 10,000 ahead of nearest challenger Creeper, who are at No.2 with Sex, Death & The Infinite Void (5,030 sales).
Taylor Swift's reigning chart-topper Folklore drops down to No.3, selling 4,680 units, while there are new entries for Alanis Morissette's Such Pretty Forks In The Road (No.4, 3,968 sales), Psychedlic Furs' Made Of Rain (No.5, 2,973 sales) and Paul McCartney's reissued 1997 LP Flaming Pie (No.7, 2,770 sales).
Elsewhere, Billie Eilish has made an instant impact in the singles chart, with My Future (11,714 sales) straight in at No.4. The Top 2 are unchanged - Joel Corry ft. MNEK continuing at No.1 with Head & Heart (29,143 sales) and Savage Love by Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo (20,926 sales) holding firm at No.2.
Harry Styles leaps 7-3 with Watermelon Sugar (12,857 sales) and Nathan Dawe ft. KSI's Lighter (11,682 sales) dips 4-5.
Yes at Watermelon Sugar being at number 3😁 I hope the album can go back in to the top 10 by Friday...
Do we know the gaps between 2 and 3 for singles??
That's definite for Fontaines then! Hopefully Creeper can stay top 5, but top 10 will be amazing.
14.4k already - number one surely nailed there!
At least Taylor will be #2 in the albums this week and hopefully #1 again next week *.*
Yasssss at cardigan top 20 and all 3 Taylor songs set to be top 40 🥰😍

Nathan Dawe and KSI are #4 on iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music - I think they're set for another week at No.4
I've literally never heard of Fontaines D.C. outside of Buzzjack, I'd be surprised they'd sold so much if it wasn't for a few posters here predicting big sales (and I still am to some extent).
Great to see Paul Woolford top 40 on singles at this early stage anyhow and Jubël looking to go top 10.
As expected easy #1 for Fontaines, nice to see!
hope Alanis remains top 10
Holiday down to 30... f*** 🥴
Billie is only low top 20 on both Spotify and Apple now, so sure she's gonna drop places
I would bet on Nathan/KSI ending up at #3
When was the last time the Psychedelic Furs have a top 40 album
I'm actually surprised to see Creeper that high, bearing in mind the Top 75 is lacking in new albums this week.
Why the sudden climb of the Whitney GH? It's not usually that high.
No Brandy I guess iTunes sales are minuscule
Thought Alanis had more fans thought she would be dead very for top 3 but maybes not
Isn’t it a bit late for Jubël to peak?
I was hoping Hallucinate to be closer to Top 40...I guess it's destined to just hang around #41-#50 region
That's actually a lot better than I would have imagined for Alanis! Especially after how her last few albums have done.
I have to admit though, I was totally unaware she even had an album out. It seemed to all go quiet after 'Reasons I Drink' which I swear was about a year ago.
I hope Ellie doesn’t drop out the top 40 albums but I’m worried she will
Taylor Swift looking goof for number two in the albums then. Where is Cardigan and her other two songs on the singles chart?
Shocked at Little Mix falling so hard- are they own a downhill trajectory?
Watermelon Sugar looking to get a new peak is music to my ears!!
Can somebody PLEASE do something to stop this Jubel thing? Urghhhh.
The link to the entire chart is on page 1 which probably would have answered your question quicker than it took you to type all that out
With Fontaines at 14.5k today, I can see IDLES doing around 20k by the Monday next month!
the Alanis album is really good, mostly piano ballads ala rock bands from there 80s and 90s
Harry styles really in with a good shot of a new peak this week, I hope kygo and tina turner can stay top 40 aswell.
I hate capitol records so much, their not even heavily promoting Sam’s new single for their upcoming EP dropping this month, an lyric video and no placement in Spotify’s Today Top Hits isn’t gonna cut it... ugh
Has this been heard on the radio?
Ronan keating is holding up about 20 places higher than I was expecting him to be.
Wow, I guess Fontaines D.C.'s fanbase really has just exploded that much this quickly then, I really thought that them getting to 15k by the end of the week let alone almost being there in the first mids would be a pretty optimistic prediction. Once again I ought to just not question RFC's insights on bands like this happy to see it though!
I do wonder what their second week drop will end up being though ('Dogrel' went 9-73 for reference, I obviously don't think this one is also going to fall as far as #73 given how much it is overperforming their first album's debut week but still wouldn't surprise me if this gives us the 1-out of top 40 run that we've nearly seen a couple of times this year with The Streets and particularly Sports Team).
It's great seeing fontaines dc do so well, I actually know 1 of the guys to see as he is from a village near where I live.

Can I have Ellie in the albums please x
Ellie truly released on the best week!
Eek at it going to spend two weeks top 40
Alanis will be overtaken by Pop Smoke (yuck!) but hope she can stay top 5 till Friday
Is Dua at #11?
Fontaines D.C only have 1k sales since yesterday, at that rate they may just about make 20k by end of the end.
'Secrets' coming for a new peak this week? I would LOVE it if so!
Billie's position on Spotify + Apple Music + iTunes have dropped a bit but I think she'll still clinch Top 10...
Ellie was lucky to release when she did! Hopefully she’ll somehow stay too 40 by end of the week but I can see her being somewhere between 41-45.
Is there anything that can save this era? Love I’m Given sounds like it could be quite big if pushed.
Is Higher Love still top 100?
Great figures for Fontaines DC would be class if it could break 20k by Friday. Thought Taylor was gauranteed the no1 spot for 2 weeks.
Good to see 'Watermelon Sugar' looking at a top 3 peak.
Is Fine Line top 10? This would be the first week since it debuted not being up there if it isn't.
Pop Smoke looking like he might make it to make it 5 straight weeks in the top 3 on the albums chart, that's quite amazing for a rap album. I'd guess Drake's 'Scorpion' (which also had 5 consecutive weeks in the top 3, 6 in total) is the last one to match that? Eminem's last 2 albums both only spent 4 weeks in the top 3, can't immediately think of any other rappers who even come close to the level of longevity Drake and Eminem get unless I'm forgetting someone obvious.
edit: was forgetting Stormzy but he only had 3 consecutive and 4 total weeks in the top 3 with 'Heavy Is The Head'. Also Post Malone whose last album spent 3 weeks in the top 3.
I think Fine Line could make a whole year top 10 with a peak of only #3.
It wouldn't surprise me if Fine Line falls out of the top 10 as we move into Q4, or even before then if we have a busy week (it so nearly fell out a couple of weeks ago!), but its longevity has been SO impressive - I doubt anyone saw this coming, I know I didn't!
For comparison's sake, this is how it fares in comparison to the other 1D / solo albums:

Fine Line has spent longer in the top 10 than all 1D-related albums spent in the top 40 except the first two...! And over triple the previous highest tally for top 10 weeks.
LPLast1 :')
Then there's Zayn's Icarus Falls which peaked at #77
Harry’s had such a strong impressive era! It’s been well deserved. It’s just such a shame it never went to #1 especially as there’s been a few albums this year what debuted at #1 and then never spent another week in the top ten.
are Little Mix still Top 30?
https://twitter.com/officialcharts/status/1291019595390898176?s=21
The Taylor cd has been released this week, she’s going for a second week at no 1.
Taylor guaranteed another week on top!
Does this mean all the pre-orders will be dispatched and therefore count for this week instead?
Really impressive seeing Fine Line against all the other 1D releases like that.
It’s been huge for him, agree it’s a shame it hasn’t made the top 2 yet though.
Harry really has done great with Fine Line and seeing it against all the one direction releases showcases it more. Fine line still has a good few sales left in yet but it seems to be consistently selling about 5.5k every week since its release. Wouldn't be surprised to see a deluxe release later in the year.
oh poor Fontaines, they had the #1 on lock
Well... looks like I might be right after all then if not for the reason I expected That is a shame for Fontaines D.C. if they're denied #1 by this but it's still a really impressive sales showing for them either way.
Wednesday update incoming when a chart mod is available Fontaines D.C. are still #1 on the album chart with sales of 16.5k while Taylor on 10.7k
What a spectacular plot twist!
Looks like Taylor might have been #1 without the physicals then

NO OTHER SALES INFO
How far is Hallucinate from Top40? Any chance of it making the Top40 by Friday?
Well thats Nathan confirmed for the No.3 spot, then.
Regard x RAYE coming for a new peak this late on.
Chris Brown effortlessly getting another top 10? We hate to see it x
Taylor's label getting desperate because some comparatively unknown band were going to knock her off #1? :'''')
Is Holiday still #29?
Hope Jubël can push that Chris Brown drivel out of the top 10
I really hope Harry can stay at 3, there’s only about 300 between him and number 4...there was about 1000 a couple of days ago😬
Is Fine Line number 10??
But Fontaines D.C. - A Hero's Death is now £4.99 on iTunes.
Dance Monkey could finally be out of the Top 40 then come Friday! With Gareth Malone not lasting it may well stay in though...
Is RoM top 20 and Chromatica top 30?
Despite his personality I do like some of Chris Brown’s songs, including Go Crazy. It reminds me quite a bit of With You from 2008, which was the first song of his I liked.
I really hope Dance Monkey Can cling on for a 50th week Top 40, and then it can leave.
To be fair, releasing *eight* CD versions is a bit desperate.
I'm not thrilled with the prospect of Chris Brown getting another top 10 hit but on a purely musical level 'Go Crazy' is several universes preferable to 'Dancing In The Moonlight' so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It is a pretty annoyingly catchy song, I can definitely see why it's done so well. ('No Guidance' on the other hand did even better and I still don't understand what appeal that tedious pile of junk ever had...)
Harry Styles should be safe for number 4 even it it misses top 3.
Albums Chart exact Sales from Music Week
1 Fontaines DC 16,527
2 Taylor Swift 10,686
3 Creeper 5,604
4 Pop Smoke 5,453
5 Alanis Morrissette 4,520
Hoping Taylor can pull it off now that CDs are in some stores!
Even with Fountaines discounted to £4.99, I don’t think- no offence- that anyone outside of their fan base will be buying their album...
Just watched their video feat. Aidan Gillen. Pretty good. Must listen to the album.
post punk v folk duel for number one isn't some Dua v 5SOS bullshit x come on babes
They've not tweeted or mentioned it, so I doubt they're too fussed
but not sure if I understand, what about all the people that pre-ordered from Taylor's website, are those been shipped now too?
I love the album its fantastic probably one of her better ones but she is supposedly running a competition that anyone who buys the album will be entered in to a draw to win a signed guitar , not a fan when artists do this even you tay tay
Were all the pre-order sales already added in in today's update? Seems there were only a couple thousand of them if so, so maybe her getting back the #1 still isn't quite a foregone conclusion. I'd be surprised if there were that few though... (although I suspect her pre-ordered vinyl sales will probably be higher and those are still not going to be shipped for a few months).
Shock horror...an artist wants to be No1....
Really are some complete strange ones on here...think before you type.
😂 the comparison between Fontaines DC and Taylor Swift is hilarious. The former have only broken onto radio playlists in the last year while Taylor is an established artist with many fans worldwide. Fontaines DC get playlisted by 6 Music and Radio 1 (C-List) for their current single....
looking at people's comments on the OCC page, the Fontaines fans are not happy
vastariner • 18 hours ago
That's one of the most pathetic and desperate things I've ever seen when it comes to the charts. Missing out on one week, when she's bound to have got it next week and probably the rest of the month, would mean nothing to EMI and Taylor Swift but would mean the world to an upcoming band that may never get a similar chance. Just sheer spite and manipulation with basically placing the album where they want with the pre-orders.
no one outside of their fanbase will be buying it.
I can’t wait for Taylor to trounce them in the charts this week!
@n’tAlice
Whatever happens it'll be amusing that her team felt threatened by an independent Irish punk band on their second album lol
I agree WhoO!
I mean, it's Taylor's 2nd week, it's not like they'd have been anywhere near beating her first week.
Is it actually only the UK where they're releasing the CD early? Lol ~
All you flaking waters who didnt want Fontaines to be #1 suck my dice
Taylor Swift didn't funking deserve it again,, PATHETIC just like all you D.C. haters!!!
I think there situation is different in UK-US cos in the US all the pre-orders for CDs, vinyls, cassettes from her website came with a download
so they already counted for week 1 even if shipped later
but in the Uk, chart rules are different and only count when shipped, so I guess they're counting now
This weeks now reminding me of Gaga vs Sports Team
A band with a loyal but small by compassion fan base and a massive international female stars second week.
Sports Team themselves were a lot more involved than Fontaines were IIRC, all they’ve done is retweet the Clash article and haven’t mentioned the price reduction on any of their socials.

Have Taylor's physicals not been added yet then?
Good to see Creeper should be able to stay top 5
With 5K lead it's not like she's gonna get number 1 anyway...
CDs have not been added yet...surely.
With the biggest jump being from Tuesday to Wednesday, I think they might have already been added?
2.3k physicals are showing for Taylor, whether that's all of them or not remains to be seen.
oops
Still...not a bad second week for her regardless. Hopefully No1 next week.
It'll be interesting to see how Glass Animals do next week - they've grown quite a lot since their last album in 2016!
A consistent 1k a day for Fontaines. Hopefully with a bit extra publicity, reduced download price and the little addition for catching up any missing data can get to 19k overall.

Interview with Grian of Fontaines about the chart battle
Yeah I feel like the folklore copies mostly haven’t shipped yet, I’ve received no news on the shipping of my order and it seems to be the case with most people i know that ordered from the store so far!
Ive been charged for my Taylor order so I’ll likely get it tomorrow.
I don’t think all her physicals have been added though I expected her physical sales to be similar to if not more than her download sales last week.
Of course the real winner here, is music
Argh Mood Swings has overtaken the songs on ACR, which means that Rain on Me won't be top 20. Hope it can be there next week if Dinner Guest goes ACR.
probably the sales from her website will be added only on Friday
sure her hardcore fans all ordered from there cos it has the 8 different cover versions
Awe, it’s a shame WS dropped to 4 (although anther new peek)😁 Glad to see Fine Line back in the top 10...
Technical question
Ava max kings and queens vol 2 come out tomorrow does class new entry or combined with Original version
Would assume it'll be combined!
the 5 extra streams she'll get will be combined
Does anyone know what Deep Purple's last album 'Infinite' opened with here in 2017?
it now seems that folklore being available on CD in the UK early was an accident according to Variety we love a messT
And we oop
i wouldn't have expected Glass Animals to reach the top 10 personally, but idk how much a fanbase they have here so
haven't seen any buzz about Glass Animals
especially compared to Fontaines, which everyone was talking about (in indie circles)
Looks like Joel will fall short of repeaking in sales this week!
GA do get significantly more streams and have more followers than Fontaines, but their fanbase is also more international. I'd be surprised if they don't at least go top 10 here
Glass Animals' streams obviously aren't as UK based as Fontaines D.C. but worth noting they did have a single make the top 200 on UK Spotify a few weeks ago. (Only for one day and very low down but that is not nothing as an achievement for an 'indie' act (although the song is pretty much a straight up pop song lol)).
In Ireland this week the battle for the #1 is between Fontaines and the aptly named The Coronas
The Coronas seem to be another 'Picture This' as in they sell out arenas there but haven't made a dent here!
The Coronas have been very successful in Ireland for years now but never made any impact in the UK, The Coronas have some really great music and i would prefer them to Picture House who i also like.
Any info on 'Take You Dancing' position?
I discovered The Coronas a few months ago and love what I've heard! Surprised I hadn't heard of them before though seeing as they've been around 17 years.
Yeh the Coronas have been around for years, remember seeing them when I was at uni about 15 years ago!
Does 'Hallucinate' have any hope of making the top 40 this week?
It helps that Fontaines have the 6 Music crowd behind them who are generally keen on purchasing physicals - Glass Animals’ have a younger and more streaming-oriented fanbase by large.
Is Alanis safe inside top 10? I am a bit worried she may end at #11....
Is LM still top 30?
i don't understand why some of you are pressed over Taylor and EMI's decision. they did what any label would do to get another week at #1. No problem at all. hoping she can get it!
I don't really know why they care that much though. It's already been Number One, it'll be Number One again, what is there to prove?
The Coronas are great, there are lots of amazing Irish bands that are huge in Ireland
but never had done anything in the UK (ie The Frames)
Well in this case, the label didn't do it
I'd say Head & Heart will pass 80k for the week
Especially as she'd certainly have the #1 the week after
folklore is one of the most acclaimed albums of the year, certainly Taylor's most acclaimed, so it being her first album to spend a 2nd week at the top would be amazing. Not saying it wouldn't be amazing for Fontaines too but I think there are different ways to look at it, they're not entitled to the #1 just because Taylor's been there already after all!
And no one said they were just like Taylor isn't entitled to multiple weeks at the top. It would mean ALOT more to a small upcoming indie band.
I would argue the opposite the obvious pro Fontaines posters are quite calm and posting facts with their view points whereas the pro Taylor posters are (as per usual) being over dramatic and Stan like at the thought Taylor might miss out on a second week. I mean the first few pages had posts playing down any chance of a second week and the narrative changes as the week developed.
It's all a bit of fun to me anyway as I was LOL at the comments.
I'd agree with you there on twitter Steve, but I wouldn't say there's been any over dramatic reactions here on either side
Beyond one or two posters I think everyone's been quite calm - nobody actually expected Taylor to be in contention at all after the initial mids as physicals weren't expected until next week, so naturally people have been more interested in whether she'll overtake in the past two days (and, barring a last-minute sales report from her webstore, she won't overtake). If Fontaines get the #1, then good on them, I've got no opinion as I've never heard one of their songs but it's an impressive achievement nonetheless. #2 would also be amazing though, it's not the end of the world if the #1 did get nabbed by Taylor at the last second.
As far as Taylor "deserving" the #1 goes, well I think we all think that about albums we love. I could name loads that I think "deserve" #1 after all, it's not a comment worth overthinking imo
Did you not read the (tongue in cheek) posts by cogni whoever?
Those posts were enough to keep us going all week!
