I mean Mewtwo isn't the best looking one granted, but I thought we would be kinder to the most powerful pokemon in the game and star of the first movie ohmy.gif Maybe he'd be higher if the game wasn't literally finished when you caught him (or for the frustration of trying to catch it without a Master Ball).

Reminds me of Yoshi on top of Peach's castle on Super Mario 64, which you can get to after getting all 120 stars and you get gifted with 100 lives...not really a necessity at this point tongue.gif

Sorry, I forgot it was my turn ohmy.gif

Anyway:

81 Raichu 6.708
82 Clefairy 6.708
83 Gloom 6.708
84 Machoke 6.708
85 Persian 6.667
86 Horsea 6.667
87 Flareon 6.667
88 Onix 6.625
89 Krabby 6.625
90 Beedrill 6.583

Some very iconic Pokémon out in this section, but first let's go to Beedrill. The final stage of the Weedle evolution, this bee has a very fast attack what with Fury Attack available but is pretty weak and probably outclassed very soon after you get it. Right after it is Krabby, a rather anonymous Pokémon, the only thing I've ever noticed it for being that in the anime it's the first 'mon that Ash catches but doesn't keep on his team, so we just get scenes of it chilling with Professor Oak back at the lab every few episodes. Also it's literally just a crab.

Onix being so low is something I'm sort of surprised yet also not, to see. The giant rock snake that in the show is wielded by Brock and looks utterly formidable, in that in a real fight it would completely crush probably every other Pokémon in this generation, is remarkably weak in the Pokémon universe, having weak stats, is incredibly clumsy, and gets defeated by a set of sprinklers. That's not just your water pokemon dealing quadruple damage to it, that ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE SHOW (in addition to getting Pika-shocked while doing so which should have done nothing but hey, Pikachu's the hero, right).

Quite a surprise for me with the next one as an Eevee-lution falls! I assumed they'd all be very popular. Admittedly Flareon is the least impressive of the options and there are far too many cool fire Pokémon for him to stand out as one of them but it's quite a surprise to see him on a par with Horsea, another weak water Pokémon who I believe fights by spitting bubbles at the opponent. Also literally a seahorse.

A cat falls as Persian is also on 6 and 2/3rds, the evolved form of Meowth not as popular as its smaller form. I think it looks regal, but for an evolved Pokémon it's pretty weak so I can understand this.

An actually rather good fighting Pokémon in Machoke, the second form of Machop comes up, followed by a rather good Grass Pokémon in Gloom, which from my anime watching experience always seemed too happy to bear that name. And then there's Clefairy. A mild annoyance if you deal with them quickly, a major one if you're either hunting for it or get into a long fight with it, Clefairy Clefairy Clefairy and their Moon Stone they guard so jealously can wear your patience thin surprisingly quickly.

And then we get to the big one, Raichu. The Pokémon that Pikachu should have become, if it weren't for the commercial forces that be deciding that Raichu wasn't cute enough to be their mascot and therefore having their cake and eating it with Pikachu being super overpowered instead. As such, Raichu got rather sidelined in the Pokéverse, and by the time you get your Pikachu around to the point where it should evolve, you're either roleplaying and won't want to or you'll have much better options. Probably both, though a Raichu can be pretty powerful if you give it the right moves. How is Pikachu itself faring though?

On Harry’s batch:

Mewtwo ended up ranking a bit lower than I expected. I mean it was good in the first movie, albeit for showcasing how OP it is. Did the creators really need to shove it down our throats at any given chance tho? A Dragonball Z character as a Mega form? Slapping it into several movies to make it stick in our brains how iconic it is? And don’t get me started on Pokken Tournament. It’s blatantly overexposed and overrated.

Sandslash is nice but I like its Alolan Form better. Ice/Steel is a HORRIBLE defensive typing tho.

On Iz’s batch:
HOnestly if you’re using Raichu it’s bc you’re playing Sun/Moon/US/UM and it’s an alolan raichu. Surprised Flopreon made it this high but I’m probably the only person who has a high level of disdain for it. High attack stat and barely gets much to show for it until it’s too late. Persian is... okay, with being Giovanni’s ticket to being a stereotypical Bond villain its only highlight, but I prefer Meowth’s anime antics and iconic Alolan sprite.

Lol @ Beedrill. It was a hopeless case from the beginning, even its Mega didn’t do it any favors. Shoutouts to it getting the only damage dealing Bug move worth using in Gen 1. It still begs the question: why didn’t Butterfree get a Mega?

71 Kabutops 6.875
72 Ivysaur 6.833
73 Pidgeot 6.833
74 Nidoran (m) 6.833
75 Seadra 6.833
76 Electabuzz 6.792
77 Tauros 6.792
78 Charmeleon 6.750
79 Poliwrath 6.750
80 Arbok 6.708

At 80 we have the poison type pokemon which evolves from Ekans. Based around a serpent snake, I personally think he is fairly handy but not one I would put in my team of pokemon. I like the design of him though, way better than his evolution.

Poliwarth is another evolved pokemon and is one of Poliwag's final forms. The other being gen II pokemon Politoed. I don't see much difference in the last evolution and this and therefore is not as cool in my opinion. But fairly respectable placing for it.

Charmeleon is the second evolution of starter pokemon "Charmander". This evolution to me is a bit okay a little bit different from Charmander but when you get the final evolution Charizard I don't see how this goes to that. Maybe I'm being picky laugh.gif.

Taruros, Electrabuzz and Seadra all finish at 77, 76, 75 respectively. Shame for Seadra's cute design sad.gif.

Another one of the Nidoran's is next out at 74 and as well in this second we have another evolved version of a starter pokemon, Ivysaur finishes at 72 and is part of the Bulbasaur evolution. Not suprised to see these two out even if I expected a little higher.

Always loved Poliwrath for ages. I think when I was little I remember seeing an episode when Poliwhirl evolved into Poliwrath and it was this big cliffhanger but Bulbapedia these days tells me I probably got the details of that a bit wrong and it was some random Orange Islands arc episode... it just didn't have the evolve. But Poliwrath just looks so imposing, love him.

61 Omastar 7.125
62 Golem 7.083
63 Omanyte 7.083
64 Nidorino 7.042
65 Rhydon 7.000
66 Seel 6.958
67 Moltres 6.958
68 Vileplume 6.875
69 Venomoth 6.875
70 Kingler 6.875

In a section with fairly few iconic Pokémon, one legendary bird stands out. The red one, the fire one, the one called Moltres and if you ever played Pokémon Go, the embodiment of PURE EVIL in Team V... whatever the red one was called. It's by some distance the lowest legendary bird, which I suppose makes sense for similar reasons as to why Flareon was the lowest Eeveelution, the fire boi is just not as cool as the water boi and the electric boi because all the cool fire designs went to the mainstream fire Pokémon while designs for the other two elements were... weak when going to their main lines.

The underwhelming Krabby evolution, the Venonat evolution that should have been the evolve of Caterpie from the art but got switched with Butterfree for design reasons and the final stage of Oddish/Gloom are here. Pretty nice Pokémon with no real standout traits, I don't believe I've ever used any of them properly in a team but I'm sure if you wanted to specialise in their type they'd be decent choices.

Seel is one of the cutest in the range of water Pokémon that are barely different from their obvious real-life animal inspirations, but this is just because seals themselves are really cute. The number one Pokémon to go clubbing with.

Rhydon, the end of the totally not a rhino line, is actually the evolved and better form that doesn't look as much like a rhino because it's standing up on two legs like some sort of lizard and they made Rhydon and Rhyhorn's name way too similar. This is so far down the numbers who is going to remember that? But it's far better than its weak first evolve of course, as it comes in at #7.

Speaking of rhinos, there's a poisonous variant here as the spiky poison rabbit (guy version) evolves into a spiky poison, slightly miniature if the anime is any indication, rhino. The highest of the four not fully evolved Nidorans, I tend to group them very much together in my thinking so the differences are quite surprising. Though I suppose Male starts with Peck which is a lovely first move.

Omastar and Omanyte, two of the fossil Pokémon, based off those very early sea fossils called ammonites that I'm sure took up the first slide in dinosaur class that one class you had on geology... are nearly together, and they've done well for two Pokémon at the end of the list who I'm not sure I rate that highly. In between them is the rock they were found in (perhaps) as the final form of Geodude is... a rock turtle called 'Golem' for some reason that just breaks all conventions in my mind about what a golem is and what the previous Pokémon it evolves from look like... though I suppose it's something to do with the rocks slowly becoming more life-like. Which is what a golem is, just life-like rocks, but the word gets used in fantasy fairly often as shorthand for 'artificial fantasy robots-that-are-probably-made-of-clay-or-stone created by magic' so this representation jars with me a little. It's pretty cool though, combining the mobility of its previous evolutions with the hard-hitting rock type.

OOF!

Nice to see Omanyte & Omastar rank decently. I used to always pick the Dome Fossil but Twitch Plays Pokemon has made that evolution line all manners of iconic to me now. Also have always been a big fan of Golem & Rhydon, the beefy rock monsters who are monstrously scared of Water Gun.

I’ve just had Venomoth and Vileplume in my team on Let’s Go Pikachu, both of which were pretty strong once they got to around the Lvl 50 mark, especially Venomoth being able to use psychic, poison and flying type moves! A very underrated Pokemon there.

57 | Hitmonlee | 7.167
58 | Jynx | 7.167
59 | Dragonite | 7.167
60 | Cubone | 7.125

Sorry for the delay, had a stag do to go to and only just recovered! #lad mellow.gif

At #60 in this section is the lovable Cubone. I don't really involve Cubone or it's evolution Marowak (also in this section at #55) in my teams, I just don't really feel the need for them. Marowak is well known for being the ghost at the top of Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town, and has recently been given an Alolan form in Pokemon Sun and Moon!

I'm very surprised at our next entry; at #59 is the pseudo-legendary Pokemon Dragonite. One of the most powerful Pokemon in the original games, he is often used by Lance of the Elite Four, and is only available right at the end of the game, having your Dragonair level up to a whopping 55!!! Dragonite can fly at Mach 2, circling the globe in roughly 16 hours. It's beginning evolution, Dratini, actually finishes higher at #56, probably due to the cuteness factor and the fact there is more chance of actually seeing and using this Pokemon...

...unless everyone just LOVED the Celadon Game Corner and collected all them monies.

I would have thought Jynx would have been lower than #58, especially with just how creepy she looks..., and straight after at #57 is another humanoid Pokemon Hitmonlee, who's name is a portmanteau of hit, monster and lee (from the famed martial artist Bruce Lee).

Ghastly, the ghost Pokemon that accompanies Marowak in Pokemon Tower, is at #54. One of a variety of Pokemon evolution lines that involves trading to evolve, it can be found as early as Sprout Tower in Pokemon Gold and Silver. Another Pokemon that needed a different way to evolve, spinning its way to #53 is Staryu.

Arguably the most famous Pokemon of all time, Pikachu, falters very much so in this rate, not even making the top 50! Landing at a very disappointing #52, I imagine it being shoved down our throats and not actually being that great meant it didn't appeal. Who knows?

Finally in this section is the first of the three final starter evolutions. Finishing well below their counterparts, Venusaur stumbles in at #50. Whilst Bulbasaur is known for being the best to use in the early game, I just don't see Venusaur being as strong as Blastoise and Charizard; especially in Pokemon Blue where there are very few fire Pokemon to choose from and choosing Charmander at the start is more a necessity than a choice.

A couple of negative scores really made Pikachu hurt. We had 12 votes, so if one of them gives out a -1 while a ton of less notable Pokémon get 8s from everywhere, that really shakes things up quite drastically. Just how rates work with a small sample size.

A scarily significant amount of my childhood right there. Actually not only did I collect enough for Dratini, but my brother convinced me to buy the most expensive TM on sale there too, Substitute, promising it was some ungodly powerful attack...oh what a disappointment that was.

Out of interest, where would Pikachu have been without that -1? I guess it still would be a bit of an underperformance. Either way you (or Doug at least x) should all be ashamed, yes he's not the strongest fighter but he's a perfect mascot - I don't understand how one can dislike something so cute, funny and likeable :'(

On the positive, I'm glad we've recognised that Dragonite is very easily the weakest of the three dragons, I mean yeah he's powerful but he looks so goofy aesthetically and you'd have to take a pretty long detour from the game to get one at level 55 that it's almost not worth it. Dragonair on the other hand is beautiful and Dratini is cute as well.

Giving Pikachu a commentless 7 instead of the -1 (closest integer score to his average), he ends up in 16th place. Quite a fall yet still quite a way off winning.

Sorry not sorry I'm afraid guys! Overrated isn't even the word, yes the score is mainly based off of the anime where it seems as though it can beat anything (I mean for instance against an Onix no matter how much HP it would have left, it would still find itself mauled only trying to Tackle it over and over) I just don't find it that cute either.

Disappointed to see a couple of my favourites out, Vileplume especially, a real favourite since childhood. Yeah there are other Grass types with better stats but it has such a cool design for a Grass type and its support movepool is so much fun, not to mention with moves like Petal Dance/Giga Drain/Sludge Bomb/Moonblast it can help you get through a runthrough.

41 Jigglypuff 7.417
42 Meowth 7.417
43 Poliwag 7.417
44 Ditto 7.417
45 Mew 7.417
46 Dewgong 7.375
47 Gyarados 7.375
48 Jolteon 7.375
49 Cloyster 7.333
50 Eevee 7.333

Kicking off the top 50 we have the ever cute Eevee which places a lot lower than I would have predicted but then again I think the evolved version is more loved than Eevee so I should not be too surprised to see it so low.

Next up is Cloyster which is evolved from a shelder. On the other hand, this placing feels about right imo. Same with #48, Jolteon.

Gyrados finishes next I have a lot of memories from this pokemon from the film and television series and I do like the pokemon. However, I can sometimes forget about them but its good in a way because then I appreciate them more when I find them.

Now if the pokemon rate was fully based on cuteness Dewgong would be in my top 10 such a cute little pokemon design.

Legendary pokemon Mew finishes a lot higher than their evolved version, Mewtwo, which is a bit shocking but I kind of get why.

Ditto and Poliwag reach a respectable placing for them.

Meowth aka the pokemon most commonly associated with Team Rocket in both game version and anime tv series/film. I am kinda surprised it didn't finish top 40 tbh. Same with Jigglypuff but both reach a good placing out of the whole Gen I Pokedex database.

Mew rightfully ahead of Mewtwo, although wtf at Eevee being lower than Flareon AND Jolteon??? Vaporeon is the only Gen 1 Eeveelution worth using

Water types taking a hit here, Gyarados can be great competitively if given the chance as can Cloyster
