14th March 2021

It's a first number one for The Fratellis, Need A Little Love is a great song, and it's only been 16 years waiting to top my charts after the debut hit peaked at 3. That means Wolf Alice get held off the top spot after a big climb to 3, far and away their biggest track for me, while Hunter Hayes gets a first top 10 with a 34-place climb and The One That Got Away.

Clean bandit add to the top 20's, going Higher, Alesso and Armin van Buuren shoot up to 25 from 79 with a dance goodie, and Zara Larsson gets the highest new entry with the fab pop track Look What You've Done at 26. And without any Clean Bandit assist this time. McFly make it 3 out of 3 top 40's, a consistency they never used to have in my charts, and Griff has a Black Hole sounding suspiciously like Kim Wilde's Cambodia.

Buffy Saint-Marie was 76 when she recorded You've Got To Run. Now 80, she's into the 40 for a 5th time in 50 years, starting with Soldier Blue in 1971, which was a Xmas present for me that year, through her 90's comeback as an artist (she was still writing hit songs from the 60's to the 80's). Canadian First Nation legend! Birdy's back after feeling a bit Loneliness for a while and a surprising chart span of 10 years!

Gwen Stefani makes it 2 in a row, Miley Cyrus makes it 3 in a row off the new album, Suzi Quatro gets 2 tracks in the chart, as the Queen Of Rock reasserts herself with some new stuff, and James Newman gets his new Eurovision track in early, Embers sounding much less likely to get the last place 2020's might have claimed (it was a very strong contest, the best there never was). LP makes it 3 from 3 off the latest LP, Imagine Dragons push on a decade of rockpop, and Gotye's back with his 2012 smash, and Sisters Of Mercy bring their 80's goth rock back for More.

Hi AH!

You know I'd forgotten PRM from the PSB's had sampled Barry White! My memory!

Boney M were nothing if not catchy fun, I think they transcend generations, and always someone young who's not come across their hits before, in this case getting down to a Russian stomp. Prefer the full original song though. Ohhh those Russians! smile.gif

I agree about Embers, heard it a few times and it's OK, it's not growing on me in a significant way so no doubt an also-ran in the contest rather than a top 10 breakout. C'est la vie when you don;t hire the best in the biz for our entry.....

Sisters Of Mercy were fab, always found them exciting and theatrical, they never really became big, but at least were consistent and had a loyal fanbase smile.gif

Thanks for the listings!
