Sheffield United Women forward Sophie Jones has been banned for five games after being found guilty of racially abusing Tottenham player Renee Hector.

Hector claimed she "received some monkey noises" from an opponent during a Championship match on 6 January.

Jones has had her contract terminated by Sheffield United, who said that the forward "maintains her innocence and is disappointed with the FA's decision".

She has also been fined £200 and must attend an educational course.

Defender Hector made the allegations in a social media post after Tottenham had beaten the Blades 2-1.

Well done to Scotland who beat Brazil 1-0 in a World Cup warm up match. They’ve come on so much in the last 5 years. Will be good to see them at the event in France in June. Maybe they could do well.

While the men's team is going to hell, at least our Women's team are smashing it out the park with promotion at the first attempt and taking the title to boot

Brazil's 41-year-old international Formiga will become the first footballer to participate in seven World Cups.

The midfielder was named in the squad for the women's tournament in France.

The Paris St Germain star shares the record of six World Cups with Homare Sawa, who led Japan's women to their World Cup triumph in 2011.

If Formiga plays in France, she will also become the oldest to appear in a women's World Cup.

In the men's tournament, three players have played at five World Cups - Mexico's Rafael Marquez and Antonio Carbajal and Germany's Lothar Matthaus.
