I was just thinking about how popular worldvision always seems to be and was curious as to which previous spin - offs have been favourites among you guys? I think we've hit an era over the last year or so where the themes have been really strong. I'm a bit biased i guess but pride is my favourite thing that's been done in this corner of the site, the quality is always so high and its probably the only song contest where i regularly listen to the playlists i just like that there's so much behind each song ect and it really is like a collective thing rather than a bunch of individual songs battling against each other- it feels like we're all just contributing to a big gay playlist
i also really love masquerade (again a tad bias as im sure it was my idea) but its nice going through someone elses back catalogue and making some discoveries you otherwise maybe wouldn't have. im also a fan of the vs format that lew did in 90s vs 00s. like not even knowing what your own entry was until the contest was up added a bit more excitement to it! what about u? x |

I think my favourite is actually Reinvention, it's a bunch of songs that would never get entered to the main BJSC and provides an outlet for all those great remixes/sample songs we find but would be at an unfair advantage in the main contest. Normally really enjoyable to listen to as well.
The ones where you pick your entry but everyone gets different criteria like Masquerade and Worldvision are also great. |

I think Second Chances was my fave actually, similar enough to YBO but I preferred picking from everyone else's entries over my own. Reinvention and Masquerade would complete my top 3!

masquerade!!
reinvention and worldvision are great fun too, glad they’re all seemingly an annual thing now. I’d love another YBO too - another flops edition would be fun (dnqs or bottom half of the final as opposed to just dnqs maybe? just cos I don’t have many recent dnqs to choose from 😉) second chance would be great too but what if next time we get imposed a country we have to send from like masquerade? that’d add another layer of excitement. |

Worldvision is my favourite! I love the challenge of being randomly assigned a country. I tend to be quite diverse in the main contest anyway when it comes to nationalities (I've surprisingly sent no acts from the UK or US this year so far!) so I like getting to add a new country to the list each time. As for spin-offs that have lined up well with my own taste, Halloween and Instrumentals are definitely up there. Both Pride spin-offs were good quality too. Always down for a spin-off though no matter what the theme!

In terms of concept, Worldvision is probably my favourite. I'd need some re-listening to know which one of the three so far has been my favourite when it comes to songs tho. I embrace the challenge of having a specific framework that I have to follow because it only happens every once in a while. I like digging into a country's discography and I often find random gems from lands far away anyway (which inspired this quote from plug: "Mattias is so international!" HAHA that tickled me x)
I'm hoping to get a non-European country this time cos so far I've had Malta, Hungary and Norway. They've all been enjoyable tho, I always find songs I really like. |
