BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ Jorja Smith - Lost & Found

Posted by: burbe Nov 27 2016, 06:02 PM

Jorja Smith (of "Blue Lights" fame) has recently released her first EP called "Project 11". If you enjoyed Blue Lights, you'll definitely enjoy this. There's a real great R&B/Soul vibe to all the songs. I really feel big things are coming for Jorja, she seems to be rising in popularity recently and her voice sounds so special. I just feel like there's no one else like her out there at the moment. It seems Radio 1 have been getting behind her recently, which is great!

The tracklisting:

01. Something in the Way
02. So Lonely
03. Carry Me Home ft. Maverick Sabre
04. Imperfect Circle

I really love all four songs ohmy.gif She recently did a fantastic cover of Mario's Let Me Love You at Radio 1 as well:

Love her, been checking for her since she released 'A Prince' a good 6 months ago.

Also saw her supporting NAO a month back and she was fantastic. Can see her being on the BBC Sound shortlist for sure.

New song, lovely.

I can't get over how beautiful she is. I love her hair so much but her face is so stunning she can so rock the shaved head too.

I love her voice so much, stunning heart.gif

Posted by: Davidson Jun 14 2017, 12:02 PM

Her best so far for me. Just so spellbinding.

Posted by: burbe Jun 24 2017, 04:24 PM

Wow! Teenage Fantasy is fast becoming my fave by her heart.gif

On an unrelated note, I love that she was involved in the Grenfell single!!! <3

Posted by: ML Hammer95 Jul 30 2017, 07:14 PM

Teenage Fantasy has really grown on me, think it's her strongest song since Blue Lights!

Posted by: Doctor Blind Jul 30 2017, 07:19 PM

I'm also really liking this at the moment!

Her A-level dissertation was entitled 'Is Postcolonialism Still Present in Grime Music?' *.*

Jorja Smith (of "Blue Lights" fame)
Thought Jorja Smith was more of Drake and Black Coffee collab 'Get It Together' fame! Really liked that song, the Jorja bits were the best in it as the song slowed down too much for my liking for most of the bits when Drake came in.

Really like her voice too!

She says at 1:25 that the album isn't coming until June sad.gif I was hoping for sooner!

Why on earth would she exclude Let Me Down?! laugh.gif mellow.gif

Blue Lights though!! wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen Apr 20 2018, 10:36 PM

And where is On My Mind?!

Posted by: Jüpiter Apr 20 2018, 10:56 PM

Blue Lights is really good biggrin.gif

Posted by: Botchia Apr 21 2018, 07:31 PM

Shocked at Let Me Down and On My Mind missing!!!!!!!!! ?

Posted by: ubɹǝɯbƆ Apr 21 2018, 07:33 PM

I’m not buying it now that On My Mind and Let Me Down (?!) are not there.

Blue Lights getting all the relevancy after 2 years *.*

Posted by: Liаm Apr 21 2018, 07:34 PM

Wtf at leaving those two out? laugh.gif

Posted by: SLlewellyn Apr 22 2018, 10:09 PM

Presumably they'll be included on some kind of deluxe edition, but odd that that hasn't been put up from pre-order too though. Shame really, as "On My Mind" in particular was probably the best received track when I saw her live back in February.

In any case, I'm excited for this album - what a voice!

Posted by: Botchia Apr 26 2018, 07:20 PM

She performed "Blue Lights" on Jimmy Kimmel!!! HUGE

I wonder if it's getting a proper push. She's suddenly started performing it everywhere recently?

Posted by: JosephAvery Apr 26 2018, 07:22 PM

It does seem like it's getting a re-release ohmy.gif cheer.gif

Posted by: Botchia Apr 26 2018, 07:28 PM

It would be amazing if this did a "Be The One" but don't see it happening when "Let Me Down" was only a minor hit sad.gif

Posted by: JosephAvery Apr 26 2018, 07:29 PM

We can pray cry.gif

Posted by: Liаm Apr 26 2018, 11:26 PM

Blue Lights is stunning, hopefully it can do something or at least sell the album!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 May 4 2018, 10:05 AM

The new video for 'Blue Lights', which is being re-promoted and has been playlisted by Radio 1. Still probably her best song for me!

Posted by: lewistgreen May 24 2018, 05:49 PM

February 3rd is out tomorrow

Posted by: danG May 30 2018, 05:21 PM

I'm getting back into Blue Lights now, brilliant song and a hard one to top. If only this was doing something in the chart.

Baffled that she's excluded all her hit singles off the album tho, lol.

Posted by: Cqmerqn May 31 2018, 05:15 PM

“All of her hit singles”

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jun 3 2018, 05:24 PM

I love the instrumental for Blue Lights, it sounds like something from a 90s kids TV show tongue.gif

Posted by: StDxCharlie Jun 7 2018, 10:08 PM

Love the album, it really shows off her voice so well. Wandering Romance is the standout for me - it's so 90s in parts yet sounds really fresh too! Also really liked The One, Goodbyes and Tomorrow <3

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jun 9 2018, 01:34 PM

Just listening to this on Spotify and I will need to purchase this! Very strong debut reminiscent of Amy's Frank in places very good listen though.

Posted by: Jack Jun 9 2018, 02:18 PM

She is very talented and lyrically it's all very good but I found it all a bit bland and I found the songs to merge into one another really sad.gif.

Posted by: Cqmerqn Jun 10 2018, 12:50 PM

Blue Lights <33

Will have to give this album a go

EDIT: Omg, just noticed that we share the same birthday!

Posted by: lewistgreen Jun 10 2018, 12:51 PM

Blue Lights is definitely one of those tracks that catches you off guard and just stands out. Definitely one of the tracks of the year!

I heard one of the songs on Spotify and I thought the same! I have a feeling I'll really like this album when I hear it in full.

One of the songs of 2016 definitely!

Posted by: George.keh Jun 13 2018, 04:09 PM

If I made a playlist of this album and out let me down and on my mind on it where would they fit best in the tracklisting so I can listen to the album fully with them 2 sublime singles

Posted by: Bjork Jun 13 2018, 05:37 PM

they should have totally added the track with stormzy, would have made the album more dynamic and diverse, what was the point of the duet then?

Posted by: Dexton Jun 17 2018, 02:34 AM

Lifeboats is such a jam wub.gif

Posted by: JosephAvery Jun 17 2018, 03:06 PM

The album's a pretty nice listen, Blue Lights is still the clear standout for me and I would've liked Let Me Down to be included for a little diversity, but it's a solid listen. Tomorrow and Teenage Fantasy were my other favourites!

Posted by: danG Jun 17 2018, 03:39 PM

UK (official)
38. Blue Lights
75. February 3rd
77. Teenage Fantasy

UK (Spotify)
43. Blue Lights
99. Goodbyes
102. February 3rd
112. Teenage Fantasy
116. Lost & Found
132. On Your Own
133. Where Did I Go?
161. The One
185. Don't Watch Me Cry
186. Wandering Romance

really surprised how good she's done on Spotify, didn't have her down as the type to have a load of album tracks make the chart. not interested in the album myself but I'm pleased to see 'Blue Lights' finally taking off. would be nice if it could out-peak the drab 'Let Me Down' but even just a low top 40 position for that in itself is great.

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 18 2018, 02:59 PM

Just listened to this out of interest and it's really nice and easy to listen to, such a good voice!

Posted by: Dexton Jun 20 2018, 03:41 PM

This is such a f***ing good album

Posted by: lewistgreen Jul 29 2018, 11:49 AM

Where Did I Go? video is now receiving rotation so I guess that’s the next single

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 9 2018, 06:35 PM

Was hoping for On Your Own, but this is great too!

Posted by: Botchia Aug 11 2018, 05:42 PM

Wandering Romance needs to be unleashed!!!

Posted by: Venice Botch Sep 20 2018, 08:06 PM

Beautiful <3

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 21 2018, 03:18 PM

She’s so striking! I feel like she’s going to be very big when she has that single / moment. And this album is just a build up until she really takes off.

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 24 2018, 07:37 PM

Is this the new single?

Posted by: lewistgreen Dec 6 2018, 09:17 PM

High Contrast Remix of The One is out tomorrow. Looking forward to them D&B vibes.

EDIT: And a Radio Edit too! Looks like this is the next single

Posted by: Glühbotchia Dec 8 2018, 01:02 PM

Why isn't she huge ffs! Such a talent <3

At least she's Grammy nominated for Best New Artist *.*

Posted by: Christmasteve201 Dec 8 2018, 11:56 PM

The album is amazing for me!

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 19 2019, 06:31 PM

Now she’s confirmed for the BRITS does anyone else think the album will shoot straight up the charts after the show.

Of the performers announced so far she’s kinda like the least known but I think that’ll help her after the show as many people will be introduced to her and I can see whatever she performs impacting on the charts too but I think her album will have one of the biggest effects from the show. It’s her highest profile performance on UK TV unless I’ve missed something out. I really hope it pushes her album back in the charts one of the best albums of last year for me and a very strong debut album too.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Jan 19 2019, 06:40 PM

I’m so glad she’s performing and been nominated for a few . Hopefully she manages to snatch one ! I hope she performs either Blue Lights or Teenage Fantasy. Blue Lights with a big production could be a moment for her !

Me too! She’s my personal favourite from the British female nominations so I’m hoping she beats Jess and Anne Marie for that win. I’d imagine that Breakthrough will be her biggest chance for a win on the night though.

I think Blue Lights or The One would have the biggest impact

Posted by: lewistgreen Jan 20 2019, 04:21 PM

Blue Lights and she brings out Dizzee pls.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Jan 21 2019, 12:10 AM

I honestly think this performance could be a real moment for her.

I’m hoping for The One or Teenage Fantasy. Blue Lights has already went top 40 so I hope they use the slot on aiming for another.

I can see the album at least returning to the top 40 if not the top 20 though.

Amy’s Frank took a while to properly catch on and she exploded with her second album so maybe she could follow suit

Posted by: Liаm Jan 21 2019, 12:16 AM

Hopefully this can be a moment for her, it always feels like she's on the cusp of properly breaking out in an Amy/Adele way (on a smaller level, I'm sure, but still) and just needs something like this. The One would probably work best I think.

This please ! wub.gif I’m not that big of a fan of The One I mean it’s ok but it’s probably one of my least favourites on the album . And for an award type show I think Blue Lights would have more of an impact with people especially with a big type of production behind her .

Seriously, every time it's come on, I find myself wishing I had ear plugs. A few minutes of wailing like a dying cat. Can't stand it. My bf had it in his car playlist as he loves it, it did not grow with added plays, I had to force him to remove it from the playlist in the end laugh.gif

Posted by: Cqmerqn Jan 21 2019, 07:14 PM

I’m genuinely shocked

BRIT winner for British female.

Amazing performance too!!

Album is #2 on iTunes and Don’t Watch Me Cry is at #15.

Posted by: Theonix Feb 20 2019, 11:09 PM

She looked and sounded gorgeous tonight. Don't Watch Me Cry isn't her best song, and didn't exactly engage the audience in the O2, but I'm sure it will help sell the album with it being the current single

Posted by: troylovesmusic Feb 20 2019, 11:26 PM

She was brilliant tonight so glad she won Best Female as well . Her Album has shot to number 1 on iTunes and Don’t Watch Me Cry is currently at 11.

Posted by: Bjork Feb 21 2019, 07:48 AM

she's great and she has good songs but I think she needs better songs
so far it's good songs but it's not Adele-level songs

Her label has invested a lot of $$ in her, buying her tv performances, promo, awards, reviews, etc
but they've forgotten a bit about the songs, they should pair her up with better writers or just shop for better songs

also not including the Stormy song on her album was a mistake

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Feb 21 2019, 08:54 AM

That's the thing, it was a great performance with a superb vocal but the song wasn't quite up there.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Feb 22 2019, 06:03 PM

Album re enters chart at #47 this week.

Should easily be top 40 again next week.

I'm pretty sure Jorja is still indie at this stage? I'm surprised a major label has snapped her up yet given all she's achieved as an indie artist.

Posted by: Whoody4Paramore Feb 23 2019, 02:53 PM

Her label is the indie label FAMM, but it says she has a 'publishing agreement' with Sony. I'm not sure what that means.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Mar 1 2019, 08:08 PM

Album climbs to number 27.

Back on top 40 for first time since July.
