I've not played it that much this week so it's down to number two in favour of Beach House  who i've played loads. The Family Jewels is still the best album of all time :D

Not much you're liking :(

Oh and Amy's album is amazing, it's just it leaked only yesterday and I heard it about 2.4 times on the whole so far :kink:

Poor Marina :( Delta Goodrem's Innocent Eyes (my favourite album of all time :kink:) managed 16 weeks at the top of my chart :o

most of them I haven't heard yet, still need to hear the Kate Nash and Amy MacDonald songs, I'm not a fan of Tightrope, 81, Norway or Yeba and Manipulated is just 'there' - I don't like or dislike it, it exists but it makes no impact on me either way -_-

Even my absolute favourites can't always be on top of the chart :( I have to clear the way for other singers/songs in here! :o Amy's new album's song 'Spark' is incredible! It reminds me of Killers' Spaceman which i loved loads too. What i love about Amy so much is that she has 'dramatic' notes in her music, voice and lyrics, especially music. Shivers down my spine all the time

You should broaden your musical taste boundaries :kink:

My musical taste boundaries are quite broad enough, at least compared to some of the generic 'Wear My Kiss is the greatest song of the decade' female pop loons parading around this forum :heehee: I just don't 'get' a lot of the indie tracks you love - Norway in particular I have listened to 8 times according to my iTunes, yet still I can't remember a single thing about it  I'm sure it's lyrical genius and beautiful etc...but if I can't even recall how it goes after that many listens, it doesn't bode well :( I do try, but to no avail sadly.

It's good you're trying! :D I used to be this kind of loon tbh when i was addicted to radio :( BJ is solely responsible for this complete (well, almost, as i will love ESC FOREVERRRRRRRR) U-turn in my taste :o

Maybe some autumn evening something uber indie just 'clicks' on you, you will think how 'buzzjack' you were all this time and ... turn into Ben :kink:

I doubt it :( there are a few indie tracks I love but none have ever transformed my music taste - I'm open to anything and everything though - pop, dance, rap, R&B, indie, world music and even some classical and opera these days (thank you Malena :w00t: ) so it's not that I don't listen to a variety of music, it's just that indie is one of my least enjoyed genres, although there are definitely some gems. I do try to avoid punk rock, heavier rock and metal though  I can't recall ever liking songs from these genres, although I am rather partial to Killing In The Name :funky:

If you tell you're open to opera listen to the new The Knife's album :kink: It has some EPIC opera moments in it. I keep finding out something greater about this album every week! :o Tell me about it! Post-rock/heavy metal and stuff like that are really not my thing though... although i adore Evanescence and love some bands playing rock and even metal :o As being more a 'music' rather than 'lyrics' person i can absolutely love songs with hideous vocals or lyrics :( Keep Of Kalessin were CATCHY. :kink: KITN is alright, i don't see anything good in it apart from wit lyrics and the fact the song seems to be just written to be the one for destroying Mr Cowell's Xmas party :heehee:

I own and like/love both Evanescence albums actually but I wouldn't class them as either metal or hard rock particularly, they're too commercial sounding. My Immortal is beautiful nonetheless though and Call Me When You're Sober was one of the more bizarre #1's in my chart

I hope they will regain the title of the best artist/band of all time of mine which they recently lost to Bloc Party with their new album!

How you can chart some of the best songs of this year with crap from Eurovision will FOREVER be beyond me.

However, very very nice chart. ;o

Sad to see the numbers come back lawlz. I am far too lazy for them.

Pearl Harbor are loveeee omgah.

I'm sad I'm like the last indie (which, to the contrary, i hate generalizing my music tastes as) kid on the board. ); With Jake gone things feel so awfully lonely. Thankfully there are folks like Dandy and Ashford posting around. And Pavel of course, though you get negative points for Eurovision, which is by far the worst possible thing that could happen to music.

There are good points to Eurovision :P maybe you won't like it but Salem Al Fakir's potential Swedish entry Keep On Walking is something I can imagine being hyped on indie blogs (I've noticed Astronaut, Backseat and It's Only You on We Are Hunted recently at least);

that's as indie as it's ever going to get for Eurovision I think  :(

That's awful. :/ It would never be hyped on indie blogs. Still incredibly pop, not that that's why it's $h!t.

Sorry for the harshnesssss, but you can just TELL when a song is Eurovision. It's like it's own genre of horrible lyrics, bad production, and cheesiness (in the worst possible way). The only decent song I've heard from it is Butterflies. It all just feels so dishonest and soulless. This isn't what music can and should be.

Each to their own, but as much as I love Butterflies, it's essentially the biggest cliche I've heard in Eurovision - the lyrics on it are especially cringe, particularly the opening few lines, even if I do love the music on it. Not that I'm at all bothered about lyrics usually, call me hollow but if something's got a catchy tune I'm usually sold  But what's sent to the contest doesn't necessarily represent what appears in some of the national finals though - quite credible songs often never make it far at all in favour of the cheesy pop or dad rock which all seems to end up in the contest. :(

  • Author

I agree with Rich. Each to their own I guess. But, indeed, some national finals have MUCH better songs than the ones are sent to ESC anyway. I'm guessing you just keep picking the wrong songs from Eurovision to listen :(

Being a Eurovision fan doesn't necessarily mean you love all the entries/songs in NF's by default! There're many hideous tracks! I'd not say most of the stuff from Eurovision is different from the current pop music actually.

The concept of the contest, as far as i see it (and aside from the various money factors), is to get acquainted with the foreign music, bring people together, communicate and find something new each year! If Eurovision lost its original meaning, purpose and definition there'd not be so many nation-defining sounds in the contest! Every country would have already moved onto generic pop music years ago whereas we still get COMPLETELY sifferent genres sent to ESC.

Yes, the Top 4 sucked BIG time lyrically last year but I'd not recommend you listen to only Final Top 10 tracks to create an opinion Ben (if you do this at all) because some golden classics are way more down the scoreboard ( :( ).

Oh and you liking Butterflies is the weirdest thing like EVER. This song is terrible, both lyrically (especially!) and musically!

I think if they abolished the three minute rule we could get some much more interesting and diverse tracks - there's not really a lot you can fit into three minutes so tracks are obviously condensed down and can some can seem quite empty and formulaic as a result. But at the end of the day, it's a TV show first and foremost and if songs were between 3-10 minutes long, it would take about 5 hours and nobody would sit through that (except me and Pavel clearly) :(
