I couldn't think of anything worse than watching a Bond film set in New York

I think it could be pretty fun. The story needs to be stronger than Quantum of Solace this time though. That film was a total frickin disaster, the absolute antithesis of the glorious Casino Royale.

Oh if this is the last Craig Bond film I will be ever so pleased. I really dislike him and don't think he does the role justice really.
Anyway I adore Bond in general and I'm sure there'll be something in it that's good, but if it's anything like QoS it'll be a stone BORE for the most part. |

I LOATHE CRAIG
Casino Royale, whilst being a good action film, was not in any way a Bond film and Quantum of Solace was just horrendous in every way possible. I truly hope this is indeed his last. |

How was it 'not in any way a Bond film'? It took it back to the basics of what Bond films were always about...

Am I dreaming? I've never found anyone else who thinks this, YAY. To answer Jark, it just doesn't FEEL like a proper Bond film. As you know I am useless at explaining things, but even when compared with Die Another Day it's so much less fun, it's much more blokeish and that detracts from its appeal for me. I mean it was obviously great financially and a great deal of people love it, but it's the same essental issue I have with the Star Trek reboot. |

Well the idea was that it became less ridiculous... Die Another Day is tremendous fun but at the end of the day it contained an INVISIBLE CAR. The gadgets were kind of making a mockery of the franchise, not to mention villains who did a Michael Jackson and bought themselves not only a new skin colour and face shape but also a new accent, acquired an entire diamond business from somewhere or other and installed a giant mirror in the sky undetected. It was madness really.
I don't think it was 'blokeish' though - certainly no more than any of the Connery films. It's actually incredibly camp in parts such as the noir-ish beginning and the bits in M's apartment. Fair enough if it just wasn't for you but it had all of the ingredients of classic Bond - slick humour, brutal violence, witty dialogue, an array of gorgeous locations etc. I could and did live without the gadgets quite happily, as I said they'd been taken too far during Brosnan's stint as Bond. All of this said Brosnan remains my favourite Bond but I think Craig does a bloody excellent job too. |

I'm not too fussed on the lack of gadgets, I agree they started to become a bit MUCH. I totally disagree with your point that it has slick humour and witty dialogue. They are 2 stalwarts of what makes Bond Bond, yet they are almost completely lacking.

You don't think it does? What would you call on the scene on the train where he meets Vesper Lynd then?
"I'll be keeping my eye on our government's money - and off your perfectly-formed arse." |

Well I wouldn't call it witty or funny. The humour in the other movies is much more tongue in cheek and don't even TRY and claim anything in the latest 2 is.

Of course there is tongue-in-cheek humour! Your argument is completely ridiculous, sorry. Bond finding out M's real name and M telling him she'll have him killed if utters one more syllable? It could hardly be any more self-referential or tongue-in-cheek! Overall it's a different, more intelligent brand of humour but that doesn't mean it's not funny by a long shot.

I didn't find that amusing though. I'm not trying to claim it isn't funny, I'm just saying as you have agreed in your last comment, that it is DIFFERENT than it was in the other movies. That might work for some people (probably most people), but it doesn't for me.

I always found that Brosman brought a lot of 'British camp-ness' to the Bond films. Craig gives a slick & stylish feel to the franchise.
I think it could be pretty fun. The story needs to be stronger than Quantum of Solace this time though. That film was a total frickin disaster, the absolute antithesis of the glorious Casino Royale. I just honestly think that the fact that it's set in New York = disaster. It's just an incredibly generic and boring place to set an action movie. |

Well I cannot think of a single Bond film where the action isn't split between at least three cities on various different continents so if part of the film is in NY then it'll just be one segment. The producers have been scouting for filming locations in South Africa too and of course there'll be London-based action.

I think I may be the only person here who actually enjoyed QoS. It made my flight to Melbourne from Brisbane rather enjoyable.

Rumours are rife at the minute that British actress Naomie Harris (probably most famous for doing Pirates of the Caribbean) is signing up for this film...
