Alternative Vote works AS FOLLOWS. You may recall you all ordered your nominee votes from 1st to last (some voted for not all of the nominees: this is permitted. This is also why at times during the results not all of the votes from somebody who gets knocked out will transfer.) The point of Alternative Vote is that the winner must gain a majority of all the votes (i.e. 50%+1 of the votes - so if there were 200 voters, the winner would need 101 of the voters). If in the first round the leading candidate has over 50% of all the first-preference votes, then they win the award straight off the bat. However, if no candidate has over 50% of the votes off the first round, then the candidate with the lowest amount of first-preference votes (or, if there's a draw, the lower amount of second/third/fourth preference votes in the case of these awards) is knocked out. People who voted for the last placed candidate have their votes reassigned to the person they put as their second preference, and the votes are totted up again for the second round. If there is still no candidate with over 50% of the votes after this, then the last-placed candidate is knocked out and their votes are reassigned to the next preferred candidate for the third round, and so on and so forth until the final round, where the votes will have been reassigned for the two-candidate preference - whereby the winner will be the one which more people prefer. Get the idea? (If there's a 50:50 draw at the end, I break ties by who had more first-preference votes in the first round. If they both had the same amount of first-preference votes in the first round, then I broke ties by who had more second/third/etc. preference votes.)
Take the theoretical example vote below: Most Flop Mod Aled Jark Shoat Tyron Say 11 people voted for Aled as their 1st preference, 9 people voted for Jark as their 1st preference, 18 people voted for Shoat as their first preference, and 7 people voted for Tyron as their first preference. I would be knocked out last and the seven votes that had me as first-preference would be reassigned to the second preferences - so, let's say 5 went to Jark and 2 went to Aled. The votes would stand as: Shoat 18, Jark 14, Aled 13. Aled would be knocked out and his 13 votes (let's say one of them had Aled and only Aled as a first-preference, so 12 votes) would be redistributed, with ten going to Jark and two going to Shoat. Jark would win with 24 votes and Shoat would have 20. Obviously this is a rare scenario, but it shows the difference that could be made, as more people would broadly prefer Jark but Shoat would've won under the original system - hence it's fairer and more representative. ANYWAY, now that's out of the way, on with the results! |

HMM not sure if I perfer having the AV voting system for this or not, but overall I guess the fact that broadly people perfer whoever over whoever represents who it is better, but that in my eyes does not nessacarily makes them the overall winner.
but what the hell more interesting this way tahn the traditional way, at the very least on a one time basis if not forever. |
