"The Lady Gaga album, released by Interscope records, part of Vivendi SA's Universal Music Group, is expected to be among the year's best sellers. The two online stores combined sold about 250,000 to 350,000 copies of the album in its first 24 hours, according to early estimates from a person in the music industry. Only a handful of albums this year have sold more than that in an entire week."
250-350K IN ONE DAY JUST FROM ITUNES AND AMAZON. WHAT THE HELL. US SALES ARE GOING TO BE MASSIVE. |

http://www.tinymixtapes.com/music-review/lady-gaga-born-way 0/5 review. Quite a LOL-read. If you thought Pitchfork was self-indulgent when it came to reviewing albums... Not even I am that critical |

Isn't there some question about whether the Amazon 99 cent sales are going to be counted? At least there was a couple of days ago...

Isn't there some question about whether the Amazon 99 cent sales are going to be counted? At least there was a couple of days ago... According to this they will be counted: QUOTE In fact, Billboard's chart executives are excluding Gaga's Best Buy giveaway numbers from the Billboard 200, as both the data service and publication have a longstanding policy of not counting albums that are given away by retailers to consumers at no cost -- either as a stand-alone promotion or as part of a bundle with another item -- for charting purposes. But sales resulting from the Amazon 99-cents promotion will be factored into the Billboard 200, as those sales indicate consumer intent. (Currently no price minimums for charting inclusion have been established by Billboard for the sale of stand-alone albums, as a pricing policy is difficult to police with only sales volume -- and not consumer cost -- being tracked by SoundScan's data collection system.) http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/re...005199502.story |

That's astounding. If that's true, her total sales are going to be just enormous. 1 million + would almost be a certainty at this point now.

To be fair, when you're selling your CD at $0.99, it would be embarrassing if your figures weren't high!

I partly agree with that, but I wouldn't have been shocked if they'd come in at around 150k - 200k for the two stores combined. It's only one day, so regardless of the price, an upper figure of 350k is just unbelievable. Remember, Amazon's share of the market isn't nearly as large as iTunes, so we've no idea what proportion of those sales are from what store.

If she sells around 1.5 million first week, since how many years before has an artist sold more than that in it's opening week?
I find it funny how half a year ago, people say how Gaga will not surpass her "The Fame" era as she's peaked early in her career because of overexposure and this album is slaying the charts |

I think what im confused about is the way the singles are coming so thick and heavy from the album, im wondering what the plan is to sustain long term sales, its an unusual promotional tool they have done in a way getting so many singles out before the album but the fame benefited from each single release and i cant see how born this way will manage to do that.

^Very true. Seeing if the album sells well, the singles will not chart as high as everyone already has the song from the album.....
Gaga better hurry up with The Edge Of Glory video... |
