October 24, 201113 yr Coldplay - Christmas Lights z1rYmzQ8C9Q&ob=av2e So, here we go. Our first song, "Christmas Lights" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay, which was released on Wednesday December 1st 2010. It is "a mid-tempo number" in the key of G major. It was originally thought that "Christmas Lights" would be a song from Mylo Xyloto, their fifth studio album, which was actually released today (October 24th), but this was confirmed not to be the case. For the week ending December 18th 2010, "Christmas Lights" debuted and peaked at #25 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and debuted at #18 and peaked at #13 on the UK singles chart. The video appears to be one continuous shot, and while it might have been filmed with a single camera, all we know is that several hours and many takes went into the video. Being a big Coldplay fan, I have been waiting all year to be able to listen to this again, and I gave in today! It's so beautiful and this is what a Christmas song should be known as. I'll definitely blast this one when Christmas gets nearer. ^_^ 9/10
October 24, 201113 yr The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York HwHyuraau4Q "Fairytale of New York" is a song by the Irish rock group The Pogues, released in 1987 and featuring the late British singer Kirsty MacColl. The song is an Irish folk style ballad, written by Jem Finer and Shane MacGowan, and featured on The Pogues' album If I Should Fall From Grace With God. It is frequently voted The Best Christmas Song Of All Time in various television, radio and magazine related polls in Ireland and the UK. The Pogues were at the time produced by Kirsty MacColl's then husband Steve Lillywhite, who asked his wife to provide a vocal of the female part for a demo version of the song. The Pogues liked MacColl's contribution so much that they asked her to sing the part on the actual recording. The song takes the form of a drunken Irish man's Christmas Eve reverie about Christmas while sleeping off a binge in a New York City drunk tank. MacColl's melodious singing contrasts with the harshness of MacGowan's voice, and the lyrics are sometimes bittersweet - sometimes purely bitter: "Happy Christmas your arse / I pray God it's our last". The song was released in the UK in early December 1987, and swiftly became a hit reaching #1 in the Irish charts. On December 17th 1987, The Pogues and MacColl performed the song on the popular TV show Top of the Pops, and it was propelled to #2 on the UK singles chart. It was denied the Christmas #1 spot by the Pet Shop Boys' cover of "Always On My Mind". The song was re-released by The Pogues in the UK in 1991 (reaching #36), and again in the UK and Ireland for Christmas 2005, reaching #3 in the UK. The song has re-entered the Top 40 every December since 2005, and so far in December 2010 has reached #17, marking its eighth chart run since its first release. Furthermore it has now made the Top 10 on four separate occasions including three times in three consecutive years, a feat no other single can match. On December 18, 2007, BBC Radio 1 put a ban on the words "f*****" and "$l*t" from "Fairytale of New York" to "avoid offence". Later that evening Radio 1 backed down and said that after a day of criticism from listeners, the band, and MacColl's mother, they reversed the decision. The song has featured in many UK-based surveys and polls such as #1 on The VH1 Greatest Christmas Song chart three years running(2004,2005,2006), and has been covered by numerous artists such as Ronan Keating ( :puke2:). It doesn't even have to be Xmas to listen to this! It is my favourite Christmas song by far and I absolutely love this song - It wouldn't be Christmas without it. Let the Christmas pageantry of 2011 begin! :cheer: 10/10 Edited October 24, 201113 yr by Mylo Griffo
October 24, 201113 yr Jingle Bells 2SKToXZj43E "Jingle Bells" is one of the best-known and commonly sung Christmas songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. Even though it is commonly thought of as a Christmas song, it was actually written and sung for Thanksgiving. It was mistakenly branded as a Christmas song because being extremely popular at Thanksgiving, it was sung again around Christmas. "Jingle Bells" has become one of the most performed and most recognizable Christmas songs ever written, not only in the United States, but around the world. It has been performed and recorded by a wide variety of musical artists, such as Louis Armstrong, The Beatles, Crazy Frog and Basshunter among many others. :P Edited October 24, 201113 yr by Mylo Griffo
