The Norwegian Broadcasting corporation NRK has confirmed their plans to select the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest entry. The number of contestants will go up from the previous 21 to 24. The live Saturday shows will also grow bigger.
NRK has also decided to scrap the Last Chance (sistesjansen) round, but instead there will be a 40 minutes pre-show on every Thursday. Project leader Skjalg Solstad says they want to bring the audience closer to the artists than before. On the Thursday show there will be news from the host city, the rehearsals, and news from the artists. This is how we will show the audience at home more of what happens at the MGP tour circus, Solstad concludes. In addition there will be talk about the outfits and MGP history.
The three heats will take place in Ørland, Larvik and Florø. Larvik is the newcomer amongst these and has a brand new arena which is very well suited for broadcasting. The tickets for all the events will be on sale next week.
The MGP tour will be hosted by Per Sundnes and Marte Stokstad again like in 2010. Melodi Grand Prix is arranged for the 51st time in 2012 and produced by NRK og EyeworksDinamo.
The MGP show dates:
Ørland – Saturday 21 January 2012
Larvik - Saturday 28 January 2012
Florø - Saturday 4 February 2012
Final in Oslo - Saturday 11 February 2012
In addition a 40 minute pre-show every Thurday before these.
