AND NOW THINGS THAT DON'T PARTICULARLY MATTER COMPARED TO THE FABULOUSNESS OF EVA AND RAGNHILDUR SO YOU MAY NOT READ THEM.

Fifteen songs will compete in Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012, the Icelandic selection for next year's Eurovision. They will be divided in 3 groups that will compete in three semifinals to be held in January. The grand final will take place on February 11th.

According to Icelandic public broadcaster RÚV, the Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins structure will remain the same as the one that has been in force for a few years now. There will be three semifinals, which are going to be held on January 14th, 21st and 28th. A so-called “reminder” show screening all the qualifying songs, will be aired on February 3rd, while the grand final is set for February 11th. The names of the composers has also been revealed at this stage and therefore you can see them below:

Axel Árnason and Ingólfur Þórarinsson

Árni Hjartarson

Ellert H. Jóhannsson

Gestur Guðnason

Greta Salome Stefánsdóttir (two songs)

Herbert Guðmundsson and Svanur Herbertsson

Hilmar Hlíðberg Gunnarsson

Magnús Hávarðarson

María Björk Sverrisdóttir with Fredrik Randquist and Marcus Frenell

After generic male presenter #4938 replaced Eva this year I'm feeling decidedly less excited about Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012 :(

Ragnhildur will be there of course, she's part of the furniture - the Fearne Cotton of Iceland - hosts absolutely everything, even Eurovision related shows.

WOT?

Oh well, at least they didn't replace Ragnhildur! BASTARDS.

Well when I say this year I meant the 2011 NF earlier in the year - Eva wasn't there iirc? It was Ragnhildur and some guy so I can only assume it will be the same in 2012.

I miss the dim lighting, red phone on the table and ten strong studio audience that brought their own chairs along!

It completely went over my head. I had no idea that Eva wasn't presenting last year's national selection. Probably due to her giving birth?

These are names of composers, not artists.

Oh yeah! I should have read more carefully :)

I hope Yohanna does try again, but I can't see it happening :(

Well if it was because of that, hopefully she'll be back this time. It wasn't the same without her :(

A few acts have been announced;

Íris Hólm, who entered the 2010 Icelandic selection with the song The one.

Magni Ásgeirsson, 2011 runner-up with the song Ég trúi á betra líf.

Rósa Birgitta Ísfeld from the well-known duo Feldberg.

I really liked The One! Magni would have won this year if not for the tragic circumstances surrounding Sjonni's song so he'll definitely be a contender for 2012 seeing as he even beat Yohanna in the 2011 NF. Feldberg were entered to BJSC once were they not? :o Seems like it might be quite an indie-ish song if it's anything like that was...

Totally excited about Íris' song as I LOVED The One. Feldberg are awesome so interested to hear Rósa's song as well <3
As well as being the singer behind The One, Iris was also the lead singer in Bermudaz, so I'm really interested to see what she'll be entering! :D
Knew I'd heard of her somewhere else, she's top left in your sig currently then is she not Ghosty?
Yep! :D . I hope she goes for an utempo pop tune this time!
Something along the lines of Dreaming Of Bermuda would be quite welcome actually! I liked The One a lot but the 2010 NF had quite a lot going for it iirc and it got a bit lost in the crowd.
Agreed, more uptempos this time pls. Iris

First semi final songs is out :w00t:

Leyndarmál - I really like this at first listen, beautiful ballad.

Mundu eftir mér - Wow, this is AMAZING! This have to win? My favorite in Söngvakeppni by far!

Rýtingur - Meh, boring.

Við hjartarót mina - Boring ballad, Leyndarmál will do much better IMO.

Stattu Upp - Finally something modern Icelandic! Sounds really cool, would have been nice in this ballad dominated NF.

Two will go to the final of Söngvakeppni, I hope Mundu eftir mér and Stattu Upp will go the the final! Both are amazing songs!

The One >>>>>>>>>> Leyndarmál :(

08.5 Íris Hólm 'Leyndarmál' / I believe this could be the grower. I like it a lot on first listen but there's definitely room for improvement. 'The One' still kicks ass more than this.

09.5 Gréta Salóme & Jónsi 'Mundu eftir mér' / VIOLINS. IN LOVE. ANTHEM.

06.5 Fatherz'n'sonz 'Rýtingur' / ODD. Like two songs mixed into one. Vocals are quite 'indie'.

01.0 Heiða Ólafsdóttir 'Við hjartarót mina' / Almost killed myself. Py Bäckman of Icelandic NF. Expecting qualification for this one.

09.5 Blár Opal 'Stattu Upp' / Effortlessly catchy and very un-Icelandic (i.e. not boring you to death)! Probably the first time I've heard rap in Icelandic. Ha. Genuinely sounds great though.

Definite stand-outs!

I'd agree with the general sentiment here, really like songs 1, 2 and 5 but 3 is only ok and 4 is bland as hell...hopefully the right choices will be made but Iceland rarely do!
