Eurosong will be hosted on February 24th! It's the exact same format as last year. 5 acts with 5 mentors. 2/3 jury vote, 1/3 televote. Here are the five acts:

Maria McCool (mentored by Edele Lynch)

Donna MacCaul (mentored by Bill Hughes)

Una Gibney & David Shannon (mentored by Julian Benson)

Andrew Mann (mentored by Greg French)

Jedward (mentored by Linda Martin  )

I've heard of Andrew Mann. He's quite pleasant. Maria McCool sings in Irish a lot of the time, not sure about this song though. Jedward and Donna don't need an introduction. :P And I have no idea who the duet is!

Jedward have the same songwriters as last year, so they'll probably walk it!

I'd prefer Edele Lynch, mentored by Maria McCool personally;

'I'll huff, I'll puff, I'll blow you away!'

Jedward will of course be walking this, B*Witched comeback for 2013 please (dear lord NOT The Barbarellas), seeing as Edele's already sowing Eurovision seeds :D

Is it Tina Fey with eyes being wider apart? :o

Lead singer of the biggest Irish girlband of the 90s, scored four UK #1's in nine months in 1998/1999!

We did a class maypole dance on the local village green to this song in mid '98, just before I left primary school. *Cringe*

Maria McCool - Tears of an angel

Donna McCaul - Rocket launch

David Shannon & Una Gibney - Language of love

Andrew Mann - Here I am

Jedward - On top of the world

I wonder if "On Top Of The World" will be as good as the Dutch entry of the same name in 2007. Reckon it could perform better in Baku either way, wonder if the novelty of Jedward will have worn off on the European public. So we get to hear them for the first time on Thursday and then they get two weeks of airplay before the actual night.

I prefer the title 'On Top of the World' to 'Lipstick' :D

Hold on. Jedward's entry is actually called "What's Your Number?". Wherever I got the original title from (esctoday or Keith Mills) must have got it wrong.
Cheesy teenage-y vile title... Sounds like Jedward!

I want Rocket Launch to represent us, if only because it's the only song that doesn't sound cheesy or typical. (well in comparison to the rest)

edit: She's the one from Donna & Joseph right? I liked her...always thought she could do better without that muppet. Donna seems to have gotten a lot better too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aszkBWeX3c

If Jedward represents us I hope we fail to qualify....a good result will only encourage them to keep coming back. Once was enough. Personally I don't think they should be competing in the NF at all, it's painfully obvious they'll win again, so why not just cut to the chase? It's unfair to the other competitors when Jedward have this hysteria that surrounds them. (Like with Dustin)

Could the juries in the NF potentially turn against them this year if one of the other four songs is outstanding? Didn't the song that finished second in the national final last year actually come incredibly close to beating Lipstick thanks to the high jury votes. And seeing as it's 50/50, if they finish last with the jury, regardless of the public vote, might they not win overall? Surely the jury will consider that lightning doesn't strike twice.

In the unlikely event that there's a potential Eurovision winner amongst the other four songs, would they really go against it just to feed Jedward's egos some more? I guess they might after the unexpected success of Lipstick, both in Eurovision and in charts across Europe post-contest. They'll probably just do a Lena and fail to live up to the high bar that they set for themselves...

Jedward and "high bar" really don't work in the same sentence. I'd say "fail to live up to the hype" personally. :D

Like it or not (and I didn't), Lipstick was commercially the biggest hit of the 2011 contest across Europe by quite some margin. They're basically household names in Scandinavia and Germany now as well as being well known across the rest of the continent. The same can't be said of Raphael Gulazzi - who? Oh yes, the guy who came 2nd!

So they certainly set themselves an incredibly high bar to live up to, it was probably Ireland's most successful entry since their run of wins in the 90s (even though their 1997 and 2000 entries finished higher).

Final Eurosong line-up revealed

RONAN MCGREEVY

Dublin-based singer Andrew Mann and a duet of traditional balladeers Celtic Whisper and singer Maria McCool have been announced as the final acts who will look to represent Ireland in the Eurovision.

The pair will have the daunting task of taking on last year’s winners Jedward who finished eighth in the Eurovision finals and are already hot favourites to go through.

The other two acts are Donna McCaul, one half of the brother-sister combination who represented Ireland in the Eurovision in 2005, and a duet featuring Una Gibney, the singer with the band Boogie Nights, and David Shannon who has appeared in several West End musicals.

Andrew Mann, who is described on his own website as an “extraordinary and gifted Irish singer”, will be mentored by Greg French from The Brilliant Things and will sing French’s own composition Here I Am .

Celtic Whisper with Maria McCool will be mentored by Edele Barrett who used to be in the band B*Witched. She has written their entry Mistaken .

Jedward, who are being mentored by former Eurovision winner Linda Martin, will sing Waterline by Swedish songwriter Nick Jarl who has already penned several songs for the twins.

They have immediately been installed at 4/11 by Paddy Power bookmakers. Andrew Mann and Donna McCaul are joint second favourites at 5/1.

McCaul will sing Mercy by a Swedish production team Marten Ericsson and others. Her song has been described as a “big dance track in the style of a club anthem”.

Una Gibney and David Shannon will sing Language of Love written by their mentor Julian Benson and by Eanan Patterson.

The first airing of all the songs will be on RTÉ’s Mooney Show tomorrow afternoon at 3pm.

The national winner will be selected on Eurosong 2012 on the Late Late Show on Friday February 24th.

This year’s Eurovision will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in May, with Ireland competing in the first semi-final on Tuesday May 22nd.

Seems like I need to edit the first post. :heehee: Will do it tomorrow after I hear the songs. ^_^

Song 1: Mistaken by Celtic something and Maria McCool ~~ very Irish and pleasant but a bit dull. :(

Voting will be 50:50 on the night!

Song 2: Donna McCaul ~~ horrendous but I can see this being quite popular! Something that stays in its semifinal in Melodifestivalen.

'Mercy' sounds pretty generic and dull. :(

How many songs did I miss? One? :o

edit: f*** YOU, the presenter, it will NOT win Eurovision. Not even a CHANCE. :manson:

He's talking about the Greek crisis and the new European treaty, if that helps. :P
