In the next few days, the 25 acts that will compete in the Russian national final will be announced on the broadcaster's website. Rumoured acts include the returns of Dima Bilan possibly duetting with half of TATU and the group of grannies! (Babushki - or something like that!)

Can Russia be a front runner again this year, or will they fail to reach expectations like last year?

I'm hoping Buranovskiye Babushki finally win. They were robbed in 2010.

I'd love to see them in ESC because they always make me laugh and do make good music (for the genre they're in), but the problem I have with them is that if they win ESC then it would be seen as a joke win and a dent in the good reputation the contest has built up with recent winners - Alexander & Lena primarily. :S

I don't think ethnic Russian music will be perceived as a joke in Europe. Sending grannies to sing will probably turn a few heads but still, it's a great move. :D

It would be great to see them, definitely something different! I wouldn't want them to win though unless their song is very good indeed!

Here are Dima and Yulia (TATU) recording their duet possibly for the Russian NF:

From ESC Forums:

Andy from esckaz.com (he always gives reliable information) confirmed they will participate in the Nf selection with "Back to her future", by Swedish composers.

Also, it is seeming ever more likely we will see the return of the Babushki. Apparently Babushki's song is confirmed to be "more of a modern happy dance euro-pop than traditional folk/ethno" (info from ESC Forum)

Of course, all of this is purely speculation - nothing has been confirmed!

For the first time EVER I'm rather EXCITED to see who wins :o They don't even need the other 23 acts, they stand no chance (unless there's someone big among them as well).

A Dima and Yuilia duet might make me watch this NF after all :)

So Sergey Lazarev is still uninterested in trying for ESC?

Dima and half of tATu duetting? Welcome back to the top three Russia! :o
I think Russia will be a disappointment once again. Last, year I thought their entry was going to be something promising and I was totally disappointed when I found out that it was not that great as I expected.

Does Babushki mean grannies in Russian? I never realised!

And OH DEAR there's Timati. Looks like he also could well be a contender.

I only recognise Pavla, Jet Kids (both were in ESC 2010 NF), Ed Shulzhevsky (ewww), Mark Tishman, Irson Kudikova (both were in the Star Factory project - I actually completely forgot about Irson AT ALL), Polina Smolova (HAI BELARUS 2006) and obviously Bilan/Volkova and Timati with the grannies.
