The question is in the topic title/description: Should the iTunes Chart threads be made at the beginning of every chart week (every Sunday) or keep being made when the previous thread has 1,000 replies? ohmy.gif

I think it would be a good idea as it would make more sense and would not cause unnecessary stress when a new thread is made before the other thread has 1,000 replies. ohmy.gif

Discuss. ohmy.gif

Yes.

And if the title of the thread was in a standard format (e.g. iTunes Chart w/c 25th March 2012) then it would be far easier to search for the relevant thread at a later date.

I suppose it could work better weekly with the new releases for the week.

I voted yes, for this reason:

I think the iTunes thread is fine as it is. There will always be a rush to make the iTunes thread, having the thread opened on a Sunday won't prevent that rush

I think it sounds pretty solid in principle and I'm always open to new ideas. Would add a bit of structure as well.

the forum would become a bit saturated with threads, but at least if you set a certain time, it will stop a crowd of people opening a thread the instant it gets to 49 or something pages

also its easier if its focused on that weeks discussion

In reality each month usually has three or four topics and it's occasionally spilled over into a fifth (although not for a while admittedly) so there'd be virtually no difference in terms of the number of threads.

It's unlikely to, and the odd thread going over 1000 doesn't really affect the site (BUZZR8 went over 200 and nothing bad happened).

I'm in favour. Organisation for the win and what not! Snow Spiider makes a good point too. I was searching for threads for when certain songs were released and it takes ages to hone in on what the relevant thread is.

In principle, yes, if you created a new thread at midnight Saturday/Sunday when the new tracks are released AND closed it when the new thread is opened.

But you'll still get the same rush to create the thread - they'll know the exact time, and they'll try to create it earlier and earlier to beat the next person.

The only way to avoid that is if chart mods create it. And it would be better if the chart mods did it as most ppl mess up the 'Kworb / pop bars / etc' links in the first post, which has to be fixed by a chart mod anyway laugh.gif

I don't really see how the rush to create the new thread is much of a problem, and if we were to have weekly threads at least it's far clearer WHEN you're supposed to be creating it.

That's a good point. Just because of that I voted yes.

Otherwise I don't mind if it's weekly or 1000 page long.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the current way of doing things as such but it sounds like a fairly good idea regardless so I vote yes as it could be easier if anyone wants to search back.

Perhaps we could do a trial run to see how it works for one week. If it proves successful then I don't see any reason why this couldn't continue as normal.
