Have you got any examples of songs that you're obsessed with from any of the national finals (from any year) that you think we should all hear? They don't necessarily have to be 'OMG why didn't they send that, it would have won!' type missed opportunities, more anything that you have a soft spot for. Here are a few of mine;
Uno & Irma - God Morgon (Melodifestivalen 2007, Andra Chansen) Middle aged MOR duet, SO anthemic though City Chix - All About You (UK 2006, 3rd in Making Your Mind Up) Still have a major amount of love for this Veronicas meets Thunderbugs esque pop-rock song from a couple of Scottish soap stars. Before I unexpectedly fell in love with Teenage Life when I saw the performance, I was rooting for this based on the studio versions. Karizma - When Life Is Grey (Moldova 2011, 2nd) DAMN YOU Moldovan juries, we ended up with the insufferable Zdob Si Zdub when we could have had this amazing Europop stomper that won the televote! Still always listen to this! |

I'm going to take the chance to turn this into a JESSICA FOLCKER THREAD *.*
Jessica Folcker - Om natten (MF 2005, 6th in heat 3) This really should've been a multi-week number one in 2002. Jessica Folcker - When Love's Coming Back Again (MF 2006, 7th in heat 3) This really should've been a multi-week number one in 1998. Gunther and the Sunshine Girls - Like Fire Tonight (MF 2006, 6th in heat 4) This really should've been a multi-week number one, full stop. Kikki Danielsson - Idag och imorgon (MF 2006, 10th) This would never have been a hit anywhere but I'd have given a LOT for a key change like that this year *.* |

Karizma
Melodifestivalen has absolutely loads, so I won't go there. From other countries, the three that spring to mind for me... Saa Lendero - Mandoline (Slovenia 2006, 2nd) Absolutely smashed the televote, but the juries gave it 0 Brigita uler - Samara (Slovenia 2008, 3rd) Regina Ósk - Žér viš hliš (Iceland 2006, 2nd) Bloody Silvia Night! |

That Moldovan song from 2011 is pretty epic. Can't believe I've never heard that before! I'm not normally massive on national finals. Adelén and Samanta Tina going out this year were both pretty devastating though.

I could write a book on lost MF classics too. I'd say C'est La Vie but at least that was resurrected as an interval act this year. I won't post all the videos but you owe it to yourself to listen to:
Friends - The One That You Need (2002) The Honeydrops - It Takes Two (2002) Cosmo4 - What's Your Name (2007) Sebastian - When The Night Comes Falling (2007) Caroline Af Ugglas - Tror På Dig (2007) Marie Lindberg - Trying To Recall (2007) Suzzie Tapper - Visst Finns Mirakel (2008) Sibel - That Is Where I'll Go (2008) I prefer the Friends song to their 2001 entry, it's the song Hear'say should have followed up The Way To Your Love with. And just download the whole 2007 album tbh, amazing year. That's without even mentioning the four brilliant heavyweights (The Worrying Kind, Cara Mia, I Remember Love, A Little Bit Of Love ) |

It's so beautiful though The Queen was much better from Velvet, such a huge melody, another lost classic right there!

Karizma... you did hear the live version I hope? I mean the studio is amongst my fondest memories as a Eurovision fan... was hyping that for ages... and then that performance happened, I was glad someone was able to stop that from going to Düsseldorf

NMGP:
Nora Foss-Al Jabri - "Somewhere Beautiful" (2nd 2012) - This could have gone top 10 in Baku. Very powerful ballad. Irresistible - "Elevator" (SF 2012) - Very Saturdays-esque, contemporary and would have been a good entry for Norway Nora Noor - "Gone With The Wind" (SF 2011) - Amy/Adele soul number - would have worked very well. Girl Happy - "SOS" (SF 2011) - Electro-pop number. Would have been a good entry in ESC. Sichelle - "Trenger Mer" (SF 2011) - Agnes in Norwegian!! Very underrated and catchy. Mira Craig - "I'll Take You High" (SF 2010) - Soul ballad, very powerful voice. Top 5 easily on home soil. Sichelle - "Left, Right" (SF 2009) - Think Alesha Dixon....great song, memorable chorus. This could have won too! Tone Damli - "Butterflies" (2nd 2009) - LOVE this. This could have won too! |

Yohanna's 'Nott'/'Slow Down' is the most obvious for me, a song I have played lots!

I do still have a soft spot for Woo (You Make Me) even if objectively it's UTTER SHIT. Then again I even quite like Even If these days.
