005 † AVG: 6.27

'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned' (2004)
HIGH: 11 {NickF1} _ LOW: 02 {AnthonyT}

The worst performing album unsurprisingly is that of Prodigy's fourth album, which was a departure from the usual thrashing elements the group became known for throughout the 90's. After the massive success of their previous era 'The Fat Of The Land', 'Always Outnumbered...' was created nearly entirely solely by one member - that of Liam Howlett, which came after the highly controversial standalone single and 'now disowned' Prodigy track 'Baby's Got A Temper'. This reflected in the album which ended up as a dancepunk effort, a stark change from the harsh vocals and throbbing industrial / jungle beats of their previous albums. Despite an all-star line-up of features including Juliette Lewis, Liam and Noel Gallacher and Princess Superstar, the album received mixed reviews and the singles taken from it performed poorly compared to past eras.

004 † AVG: 7.73

'Experience' (1992)
HIGH: 11 {Mariah Scary} _ LOW: 06 {✖ ketalina ✖, AnthonyT, Grebo}

The Prodigy's first album is fourth on our countdown, which I put down due to unfamiliarity and the more dated sounding amateurish quality before they became a polished 90's powerhouse. Released on the back of the success of the very of-the-time gabber-rave hit 'Charly', the album received rave reviews and critical acclaim, establishing them as one of the most consistent, recognisable and popular acts in what was a prolific but faceless rave-dance scene. The album claims some of their most popular hits, including one of their signature tracks to this day, the well-recognised and well-used 'Out Of Space'. The album relied heavily on pop culture samples and interesting interpolations of songs from many different decades, a trait they used throughout their career.

003 † AVG: 7.86

'Invaders Must Die' (2009)
HIGH: 11 {Dobbo} _ LOW: 05 {AnthonyT, richie}

The last studio album from The Prodigy's discography is the return-to-form 'Invaders Must Die'. After the critical and commercial disappointment of the previous album 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned', Prodigy mainstay Keith Flint got involved once again to bring an updated (but still true to their abrasive industrial sample-laden roots) version of their trademark sound, which resulted in two Top 10 singles in 'Omen' and 'Warrior's Dance'. The album reaffirmed the group as a dance music heavyweight, and made them a truly relevant name for the first time in the 21st century.

Experience below Invaders and Fart of the Land? Hmm...

Actually, I wouldn't say Experience enjoyed rave reviews at the time, most reviews I read said the medium didn't translate all that well to an album but the Prodigy had done better than most. Unless you mean it was reviewed in rave magazines!

002 † AVG: 8.82

'The Fat Of The Land' (1997)
HIGH: 11 {Bré} _ LOW: 06 {AnthonyT}

In what might be perceived as a shock result to the masses, but not to Prodigy fans themselves, The Prodigy's most well-known (and infamous) album 'The Fat Of The Land' lands in the bridesmaid spot with an incredible average. Housing their two most well-known singles in 'Firestarter' and 'Breathe', as well as the explicit and offensive 'Smack My Bitch Up', this album turned the gabber and jungle boys into punk-based anarchists, and caused a mass panic amongst parents with their brand of rebellious visuals and dark lyrical content. The music took a much more abrasive and rock-inspired direction than their previous albums had, which rewarded them with their most successful releases to date.

001 † AVG: 9.18

'Music For The Jilted Generation' (1994)
HIGH: 11 {Dandy*} _ LOW: 08 {✖ ketalina ✖, 152chris, AnthonyT, Dobbo}

Coming in with the most loved score with NO-ONE scoring it less than an EIGHT (out of 11 rates!), 'Music For The Jilted Generation' takes the crown fair and square with a small lead over 'The Fat Of The Land'. This album began The Prodigy's more rebellious streak, coming out in response to the corruption of the rave scene since their arrival to dance music. Mixing an 'accidental' political message with trippy music elements, it further elevated their identifiable brand of hi-pitched candy rave and spawned fan favourites like 'No Good (Start The Dance)' and 'Voodoo People'.

Next: the singles! Tune in to find out what was Buzzjack's favourite of The Prodigy's 23 single release tracks: coming soon.

So so happy with that result! It's one of my favourite albums ever, not a bad track on it. I remember I used to feel like I was actually rebelling by playing it, ridiculous!!!

Mildly surprised at 'The Fat Of The Land' not winning there. Also kinda surprised to see 'Invaders Must Die' beating 'Experience'.

018 'Fire' † AVG: 7.12
HIGH: 10 {Mariah Scary} _ LOW: 06 {✖ ketalina ✖, 7Seize, Dandy*, Grebo, RabbitFurCoat, Thermo}

019 'Spitfire' † AVG: 6.75
HIGH: 11 {NickF1} _ LOW: 00 {AnthonyT}

020 'Take Me To The Hospital' † AVG: 6.56
HIGH: 09 {Grebo} _ LOW: 04 {152chris, richie}

021 'Hotride (feat. Juliette Lewis)' † AVG: 6.22
HIGH: 09.5 {Nick F1} _ LOW: 04 {AnthonyT}

022 'Out Of Space 2005 (Audio Bullys Remix)' † AVG: 4.22
HIGH: 08.5 {Nick F1} _ LOW: -01 {✖ ketalina ✖, Grebo, RabbitFurCoat}

023 'Baby's Got A Temper' † AVG: 4.13
HIGH: 08 {Bré, Mariah Scary, Nick F1} _ LOW: -01 {Dandy*, gooddelta, richie}

Finishing last but only by a whisker is the standalone hit 'Baby's Got A Temper' from 2002, which despite reaching the Top 5 in the UK Singles Chart, has been disowned by the group due to the bad reception and the criticism of its lyrics which suggested strong rohypnol use. Just ahead of that with a mere 0.09 more, but still holding less than 5/10 amongst the average is the Audio Bullys remix of the sublime 'Out Of Space', turning it from an iconic rave classic to a self-indulgent and faceless dance crapfest. The inoffensive 'Hotride' with Juliette Lewis just misses the Top 20, whilst 'Take Me To The Hospital''s aggressive demeanour polarises fans. The rest of the singles from the album will feature later. Finishing this section is a double dose of fire - 'Spitfire' showing its polarising stature, and is 'outgunned' by the original 'Fire' which suffers from being liked by everyone, but just not loved enough, with SIX 06's and SEVEN 07's awarded to the track out of a total of 17 rates.
