That Ella Eyre single has been streaming for ages, not enough promotion letting people know it was streaming I'm guessing.

That Ella Eyre single has been streaming for ages, not enough promotion letting people know it was streaming I'm guessing. It's interesting that the likes of 'If I Go' and 'Right Here' were still hit fairly hard by streaming despite being available to stream before release - and in fact even 'Classic' had a higher peak on sales alone, despite the fact it made the top 100 before being released to download. It really seems like streaming is only helping out Ed Sheeran and old songs. |

Ugh Milky Chance would have bene top 20 this week then?! Radio 1 have it off the Alist too so its prob peaked now although its increasing in streams will stabilise it hopefully to get another few weeks top 40!

Interesting that Cheryl Cole's new song has enter spotify's top 100 on day of release, very unusual for a new release, suggests that could have one if the biggest first week stream sales

One thing is becoming very clear - new songs are at a significant disadvantage since streaming has been included - they almost invariably chart lower than they do on sales alone.

Interesting that Cheryl Cole's new song has enter spotify's top 100 on day of release, very unusual for a new release, suggests that could have one if the biggest first week stream sales It suggests that her record company have only just noticed that releasing to streaming 3/4 weeks before release helps to 'build' a decent base level of streaming and to reach a peak (or close to peak) to coincide with the digital release. It therefore suggests that they don't really know what they're doing! I strongly doubt she would have beat the first week streams of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky". |

Basically, every song is going to be peaking lower which makes an artist look less successful, in turn decreasing their TV/Radio support, making music careers shorter than they already are. The only way to succeed is if you've got a BIG hit on your hands (or your album will be streamed heavily) and even then, it makes it tough for the follow up.
Hopefully I'm proved wrong as streaming settles in but I doubt it. |

A lot are already doing this. I believe Boom Clap and Always were out for streaming before download. Jungle wasn't, and I'm not sure about the other 2 as I haven't been listening to them |

tragic that a great single has been pushed out of the top 40 (Naughty Boy) by mediocre tedious streaming data. The Top 40 gets less and less worth bothering with, same thing each week
- maniuplated record comapny new entry at number 1 - 2 or 3 fanbase records plummeting - 2 or 3 held-back records entering the top 10 - the rest of the chart just shuffling positions forever. Seems like an eternity that some tracks have been around. OMG its soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo dull. |

The charts are very slow-moving atm, and all the new releases struggling doesn't help, and just keeps the old songs in the chart for even longer.
Where is that Breakers chart the OCC was talking about? |

This streaming talk is becoming rather tedious. New releases will be accepted and will chart high & long if they are popular enough tracks. Look at Rude & Am I Wrong for example. We will almost certainly see the same with Won't Look Back, Lovers On The Sun, Changing etc. in the coming months. Tracks that would have otherwise charted but for streaming are clearly not popular enough. The most popular tracks will always find a way to break through.

That's not really the issue (at least not for me). Everybody knows the crossover adult contemporary hits will still chart high and chart for a long time. It's just that the charts are slow, but are now becoming even slower. I just wish songs were removed from the top 40 after 20 weeks or something to let new songs get in. Or at least Radio 1 should start playing new entries from the #41-#200 region, in place of songs like Let It Go, Happy, All Of Me, etc. The charts are only going to get slower and slower in the future too as streaming increases its chart ratio. It's almost at 50% already. |
