A.K.A your great musical blindspot.

Up until a few weeks ago, I'd never heard the song 'Buffalo Stance' by Neneh Cherry -

And it's not because I'd never heard of Neneh Cherry (I had - I adored '7 Seconds'), or that the song is obscure (it was a top 5 hit), I just was never in circumstances where I had the chance to hear it. Now that I've heard it, I can't believe it took me 24 years to actually get around to doing so - it's rather ace.

So what really popular, really ubiquitous songs did you not actually listen to until very recently?

I'm not sure how 'ubiquitous'/popular it is but it was a UK #1 - I only heard Tasmin Archer's 'Sleeping Satellite' for the first time about a week or two ago (due to listening to it as a part of BJSC Reloaded III). It was 'pretty good' in my humble opinion.

Oh gosh, I could have loads for this list laugh.gif

I never heard Starships until the end of 2012 (and omg I'd been MISSING OUT!!), and I still haven't heard 212 by Azealia Banks to this day laugh.gif Not helped by the fact that I didn't really do anything to seek new music back at that time, didn't listen to the chart show and didn't have the radio on.

Ooh, despite being a huge dance fan, I'd never heard the whole of ATB's '9pm (Til I Come)' until a couple of months ago!

I've only recently gotten Blur's 'Best Of' and heard Parklife for the first time. Which is very surprising the amount I go on about Damon Albarn's other act.

System Of A Down's 'Chop Suey' and them in general I only relatively recently heard properly too. Should not have taken me that long because it's brilliant stuff. (although I do remember hearing B.Y.O.B ages ago so that one's not new)

I'm quite prone to occasionally doing a bit of mining for stuff I may like from the past and then obsessing over it like I would a new song, it's fun to do.

Do you realise (another song you should hear) how old that makes me feel? cry.gif

Not recently but up until mid last year I'd somehow never listened to Africa by Toto to the shock horror of some of my mates. After 2 maybe 3 listens I saw what I'd been missing & why it's highly (and rightly) regarded as a CLASSIC.

Something I'm still not very familiar with but I hadn't heard of Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne until recently much to the dismay of my friends. I haven't really heard it being talked about on here at all so I don't really know how popular it actually is in the wider world.

Haha we all still do replace the STACY'S MOM with someone else still to this very day. Great song, and a great video. Stacey was so hot. I couldn't understand why the kid loved Stacey's mum and not Stacey herself.

I can't think of any from 1980 onwards. My musical education took place between 1999-2005, when I discovered tons of 80s and 90s gems wub.gif

I literally own THAT many 80s and 90s compilations that I can't think of any stone I've left unturned.

i manage to not hear quite a lot of the new chart stuff that comes out because i don't listen to the radio / watch television with advertising so everything only comes up by choice! that being said most dance music gets a spin.

I still haven't heard the absolute majority of 2013 Top 10 hits nevermind 2014 ones. Only heard Ghost a few weeks ago for the first time, for example. (It was shit)
