I used to do my own charts called the Yorkshire Chart and would have loved to have predicted the charts back then with loads of people online.

Sometimes the internet can be so cruel to us people of a certain age.

The rows and discussions we could have had as Mark Goodier revealed each chart position.

Buzzjack in 1990:

QUOTE(Old Guy @ April 3 1990, 04:53 PM)
What an absolutely TERRIBLE year for music this is. Can't stand all this so called 'Italo house' nonsense and that awful new number 1 by 'Snap' or 'Crackle' or whatever they're called is the worst yet. Just shouting "I've got the power!" and bashing a few random notes on a electric keyboard isn't real music.

QUOTE(Exciteable Teenager @ April 3 1990, 06:17 PM)
r u serious? its the best year for music EVER!!!!! new kids on the block are amazing and the best band of all time

QUOTE(StuckInNostalgia @ April 3 1990, 06:30 PM)
I think the charts have been on a downward spiral for some time, probably since at least 1986. That awful Stock/Aitken/Waterman dance-pop seems to be on its way out but most of today's music really is the pits. I remember the days when truly classic tracks from Queen and The Beatles would get to #1, and they're still remembered and played today - but ask anyone in a year who bands like 'The Stone Roses' and 'The Happy Mondays' are and I think you'll struggle to find anyone who remembers them. Bland, disposable pop and dance seems to be all that's around today.

QUOTE(Claire Voyant @ April 3 1990, 07:01 PM)
I dunno, I think there's a lot of good stuff around - that Sinead O'Connor song is stunning, 'Love Shack' could end up being a party classic and I've heard nothing but praise about that new Adamski song. There's not really anything that really defined the year yet but I think we're in for a good, diverse decade ahead. People in decades to come could be praising 1990 as a classic year, lol smile.gif

QUOTE(Early_Bird @ April 3 1990, 07:09 PM)
Anyone remember ABBA? They were around when I were a kid in the 70s, they made some good tunes but I never hear any of them anymore

QUOTE(Time4aChange @ Oct 28 1990, 07:39 PM)
The charts need a massive shakeup. Sick to death of all these songs taking forever to climb up the charts, and now you've got old songs like Berlin's Take My Breath Away (from FOUR YEARS AGO) cluttering things up and preventing new songs from entering. Songs should be promoted beforehand and then peak in their first week, making the charts much quicker and exciting.

Also getting sick of bloody f***ing vinyl with its clicks and pops and scratches!! My turntable's on its way out and I'm thinking of saving up for a CD player, anyone got one yet and are they worth it?

QUOTE(Love2Moan @ Dec 31 1990, 09:44 PM)
Well, what a bloody awful year that was. Gazza, Timmy Mallet, The Thunderbirds and the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the charts, and Cliff sodding Richard the Christmas number 1.

Roll on 1991, which will probably be even worse.

Post of the year (this year) BillyH.

Would it be overkill for use to have a time-machine thread for each year of the 1990s where we do parody of fictitious Buzzjack posters ranting/looning?

Watching the chart is sooooo frustrating. mad.gif Wouldn't it be great if we could see how songs are doing in real time? Why can't record shops send us combined data? drama.gif Preferably with bars to show how far ahead a song is from another. Plus I really can't be arsed to go to a shop just to buy a song. I mean it's sooooo much effort sleep.gif

Well there was more than 1 record shop wasn't there? That's what I mean.

It's not like today where we have an ever-updating list of the most popular songs from a service which counts for ~75% of the sales in teh chart.

But how would the shops combine their data, it's not like there's some sort of interconnected network where they could all share this data for all to access biggrin.gif
