What lyric lines or techniques have you heard several times in different songs? I've heard lyrics about Kelly Clarkson's Stronger in so many songs, e.g. Ed Sheeran's Drunk, Ludacris' Rest Of My Life, Dappy's Rockstar and Usher's Numb.

I've also heard 'clever' lines about something usually not sexual but then referenced as sexual e.g. in Minaj's Anaconda "Dick bigger than a tower, I ain't talking about Eiffel". These techniques are so overused! ohmy.gif rolleyes.gif

Any other commonly used lyric lines/techniques in multiple songs?

'Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air' vs. 'I throw my hands up in the air sometimes' in You've Got The Love and Dynamite.

I hope you don't actually think the phrase 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' originated from the Kelly Clarkson song...

That lyric definitely is very overused though. And I feel like there have been about 5 hit songs mentioning 'kryptonite' in the last few years.

Rhymes

Love/Above
Heart/Apart
Together/Forever

Also the one that Muse have used so many times now that it's really irritating when they do it.

Starlight
Far away This ship is taking me far away

Take a Bow
Corrupt You're corrupt

Time is Running Out
Bury it I won't let you bury it

Butterflies And Hurricanes
Best, You've got to be the best

Ah yes, I've heard Kryptonite a few times. One Thing by One Direction and at least two other songs I know tongue.gif

The iconic legacy of 3 Doors Down y'all!

Tony, don't say that, those are half of my favourite Muse songs and I'm going to be noticing that forever now. sad.gif

anyway if you were to take the title question very literally, I'd say 'you', 'I' and variants of those words are the most used lyrics magic.gif

The repeats of phrases in the lyrics that Tony quotes from Muse are done for EMPHASIS!

Anyway, rhyming toast with ghost is surprisingly overused (relatively speaking, because any use is UNACCEPTABLE).

Des'ree got away with it in 1998, but rather more shockingly Arctic Monkeys tried to nod towards their Des'ree standom in 2009s "Cornerstone" by repeating the same rhyme in the first verse.

The rhyming of 'fire' with 'desire'. Although you can actually make a cracking playlist out of songs adhering to that theme.

Some variations of 'getting on the flaaauuuurrrr' and 'moving it and shaking that thang' come to mind. Don't think you can even use this ironically any more.

Oh and 'drank'

'Money on my mind'

Such an overused phrase, it appears in the Sam Smith song, Drinking In L.A, and songs by Snoop Dogg, Flo Rida, 2Pac and so many more.

Urrybody instead of everybody.

Examples include Don't Wanna Go Home, Cheers (Drink To That) & Who's That Chick? (Rihanna loves it)
