So I've just tried to play Santigold 'Disperate Youth' and all I can think of is the 'Direct Line' advert and now I can't appreciate it as much I once did. sad.gif

Any songs that have been ruined by an advert for you?

I've never been able to look at Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' in the same way since this advert:

Also Take That's 'Shine', a song I did originally like but was being murdered with heavy overplay as it was and that Morrisons advert just made it even more unbearable.

Well I don't watch much TV live, particularly the channels which show adverts like ITV etc. however I do use YouTube and 4OD a lot and some adverts come up time and time again which really annoy me.

The greatest example is this Hugo Boss advert. They obviously didn't get permission to use the XX's "Intro" and so made some really cheap knock-off:

ARGH.

It was even worse working for them. I disliked the song originally but now it makes me want to go on a murder spree. They played it almost every 15minutes. It felt near continuous.

Foxes - Youth

I was hearing this song at a rate of 200 times a week this time last year, right up until Xmas. Cheers Debenhams.

I worked there as a temp last year for Christmas and I have only JUST been able to listen to this again. I absolutely adored the song too.

'Warm This Winter' by Gabriella Climi, especially after Co-Op decided to gloss over the fact it was a Christmas song and play adverts with it in April.

Also, I didn't even kno the track in the Direct Line adverts was an actual song. Oopsie!

The orchestral version that they were playing throughout December pushed me over the edge. (And that's the sort of thing I'd usually lap up!)

! Lex!

Thankfully I've managed to avoid that because I'd never want Disparate Youth to get ruined for me, it's far too good.

However, even thinking about 'Young Folks' even now makes my skin crawl with memories of Homebase adverts. sad.gif Will probably never disassociate that song from it. Shine is almost as bad, while I can sometimes listen to it it'll never feel like a non-Morrisons song now, which means it's now soulless for me.

That sort of shit is why I try my utmost to avoid television adverts because they make songs I'm indifferent towards EVIL. Great songs can sometimes survive if you don't hear the advert too much but it's always a bit upsetting knowing most of the population now only know of Santigold via CAR INSURANCE.

Fortunately, Santigold is no longer used in said car insurance adverts. biggrin.gif Hopefully it will (one day) be un-ruined!

Did somebody use "L.E.S. Artistes" as well? Shame it doesn't seem to translate in selling any records. (Well that did get to #27, but still...)

I can't think of anything. Where's Riser or Math? Help me out with a reminder.

All I can think of is the "zoom zoom" commercials. mellow.gif

Pharrell? Happy? Come Get It Bae? Pretty sure they were both used in 10 different commercials.

Also this one, it wasn't quite ruined for me but Verizon tried their best. Once or twice EVERY commercial break, both TV and radio.
