I played Warbucks' butler, Drake, in a stage version of Annie many moons ago. I don't know what to make of the remake, I'm sure the kids will like it but I don't think it will recapture the magic of the stage version, or original film.

Found this pretty enjoyable, having never seen any version before (and thus can't comment on any differences). The kids felt a bit annoying at the beginning and I wondered what I was in for but I warmed up to them pretty quickly.

Cameron Diaz doing "Little Girls" was easily my favourite song/performance but I also really liked "Who Am I?" (quite emotive). And yes I love Sia doing "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" too.

The social services woman was a scene stealer.

Listening to the songs back makes me want to watch it all again and interested in seeing it on the stage. It was just charming and feel-good.

I thought that was terrible, and worst of all only briefly hilariously so. The dramatic car/chopper chase, Cameron Diaz generally being awful (and WHAT was that singing voice) being a few points of something approaching enjoyable. I have to admit to being slightly biased towards Quvenzhane after Beasts (probably the worst film I've ever seen) but she seemed totally miscast to me, she can't sing and she wasn't very likeable either, or at least I didn't care about anything that happened to her. Of course that's also the fault of the film in that for about 80 minutes nothing happened bar her experience the joys of materialism and revelling in it being the goal of life.

I saw this in the cinema yesterday and have to say parts of it were enjoyable but other parts were a cringe fest. Cameron Diaz made the film for me to be honest and her dreadful singing made it more enjoyable than I thought it would have been.

I was not a fan of Quvenzhane as Annie however. I find her acting a bit wooden and found her singing incredibly awkward (especially the heavy auto-tune on The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow and that awkward 4 minute song she sang in the red dress with the band...

I agree with Jahq, the social services woman was fantastic. I loved her during the scene where they check out Will Stacks' house laugh.gif

I didn't think it was great sad.gif
Those first 30 minutes were an abomination and it got slightly better as it went on but it was poor
Quvenzhane was very poor and pretty miscast as Annie. And she couldn't sing which she shared in comparison with Foxx, Diaz and everyone else in this film.
I though Diaz was ok and I liked Rose Byrne as always wub.gif
Jamie Foxx was pretty poor but the singing in the whole film altogether was horrendous and it just didn't really work at all sad.gif
