I hope the title makes sense!

With Ed Sheeran clocking up 4 chart weeks each calendar week at the moment, I thought I'd see how many he has so far in 2014 and how that compares to the best ever

2011 206 RIHANNA
2011 163 ADELE
2009 152 LADY GAGA
2011 150 BRUNO MARS
2012 149 RIHANNA
2012 135 DAVID GUETTA
1996 134 OASIS
2008 129 RIHANNA
2010 126 LADY GAGA
2011 125 DAVID GUETTA
2014 125 ED SHEERAN
2009 120 BEYONCÉ
2012 119 NICKI MINAJ
2007 119 AMY WINEHOUSE
2010 119 GLEE CAST
1957 118 ELVIS PRESLEY
2010 117 RIHANNA
1961 117 SHADOWS
2011 117 TINIE TEMPAH
1963 116 SHADOWS
2011 111 JESSIE J
1956 110 BILL HALEY & HIS COMETS
1960 108 SHADOWS
2012 108 EMELI SANDÉ
2007 105 JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
2011 104 CHRIS BROWN
2009 104 KINGS OF LEON
2007 100 AKON
2013 100 WILL.I.AM

With 8 chart weeks left in 2014, he may well clock up another 30 or so appearances ("I See Fire"'s hold on a Top 75 place has been a little close for comfort over the last couple of months), Ed could well move up to 3rd overall by the turn of the year

(All based on the "Week Ending" dates on charts, not date of publication etc.)

As usual, any amendments or corrections welcomed.

Didn't realise Oasis' record had been broken so many times since 2009! Including twice by Rihanna. Really quite astonishing how many chart weeks she's racked up.

I presume you are counting an extra week for 2014 as I only have 124 top 75 weeks for Ed this year ('I See Fire' was top 75 in what I have as the last week of 2013).

The figures I have for the top 20 of this year so far (not exactly directly relevant to this thread but just out of interest):

1 124 Ed Sheeran
2 82 Katy Perry
3 81 Pharrell
4 79 Jess Glynne
5 78 Sam Smith
6 75 Avicii
7 63 OneRepublic
=8 58 Idina Menzel
=8 58 Iggy Azalea
10 57 Pitbull
=11 54 5 Seconds Of Summer
=11 54 Ellie Goulding
13 52 Kristen Bell
=14 51 Chris Brown
=14 51 Clean Bandit
=16 47 Coldplay
=16 47 Paloma Faith
18 46 Jason Derulo
=19 45 Bastille
=19 45 Charli XCX

Yes, I am counting from w/e 4/1/14 as this year.

Looks like no one else is going to join the 100-week club this year.

Sam Smith could do ('Stay With Me' and 'I'm Not The Only One' will almost certainly remain for the rest of the year which will take him up to 95 weeks by your count and it's not unfeasible that he could get 5 weeks from other songs).

No Katy Perry on the list is quite remarkable, I'd have thought she'd be top let alone on the list at all for the Teenage Dream era.

2008 34 KATY PERRY
2009 60 KATY PERRY
2010 85 KATY PERRY
2011 94 KATY PERRY
2012 51 KATY PERRY
2013 28 KATY PERRY
2014 84 KATY PERRY

I think what you call the "Teenage Dream" era was split between 2010 & 2011.

But in relation to Kath's post earlier, Perry does have more weeks in her career total than Lady Gaga, albeit not in any particular calendar year.

And on another note, am I the only one to find references to "slaying" in almost every other post these days getting tiresome?

It's not just here either, it's everywhere. Such an irritating term. pirate.gif

That makes sense then, just happened to cut-off at the time she'd have been pushing on for this list...

Not quite "slaying" yet heehee.gif

Yes @ David Guetta's slay-age kink.gif in 2012~ cheer.gif

The Oasis total from 1996 is impressive considering the relative stability of the mid to late nineties charts to those of the current digital era. smile.gif

Oasis' 1996 total was mainly due to their back catalogue being re-released (or at least re-promoted) as 3 for Ł10 CD or 12" singles, and "Wonderwall" hanging over from 1995. They only released one new single in 1996.

fchd's figures will differ slightly as he uses different weeks for 2014 but the final version of the list I posted for 2014:

1 162 Ed Sheeran
2 110 Sam Smith
3 94 Jess Glynne
4 90 Pharrell
5 84 Katy Perry
6 75 Avicii
7 73 OneRepublic
8 72 Iggy Azalea
9 67 Idina Menzel
10 66 Clean Bandit
11 64 Calvin Harris
12 63 Ariana Grande
13 62 Ellie Goulding
14 60 Paloma Faith
15 58 Pitbull
=16 55 5 Seconds Of Summer
=16 55 David Guetta
=16 55 George Ezra
19 54 Coldplay
=20 53 Chris Brown
=20 53 One Direction

By my count (again this may be using different weeks than fchd) Adele also managed 162 weeks in 2011 so Ed is tied 2nd. He's certainly at least 3rd anyway.
