Welcome to Buzzjack's Ultimate Duet.

In the now traditional manner of Buzzjack competitions like this - there will be two stages

Stage 1 - Nominations You must nominate your favourite duets. You may nominate up to 20 of them. Entries with two or more nominations will go on to the second stage.

Stage 2 - Voting Depending on how many we get you will be asked for vote for 20/30/40 of the entries that make it through to the second stage.

Then I will present the results.

Rooolze - Read them.

1 A duet is not just a collaboration. There must be two vocalists present, each of whom must be a recording artist in their own right - or at least part of an entirely separate recording entity. For example Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis Bextor - Groovejet (If this Ain't Love) will not count as a duet for the purposes of this competition. I know that may be obvious to some but it needed to be stated. Bands with two distinctive and separate vocalists will not be counted. For example t.A.Tu - All the Things She Said will not be a valid nomination.

2 Neither is a duet just Singer feat. Rapper. Tracks by singers with a guest rapper coming in 2/3rds of the way through for 4 lines do not count as a duet. For example Erasure feat MC Kini - Take a Chance On Me will not count as a duet here. Tracks with two singers with one performing a small part will be more likely to be valid but in most cases wont be.

For a singer/rapper duet to be valid, both performers must have more or less alternate passages in the track. Emimen and Rihanna - Love the Way You Lie and Nelly Furtado feat. Timbaland will count as both parties contribute more equal parts to the song.

3 Songs with famous backing vocalists will not count, in most cases.

4 Songs with three or more vocalists do not count.

5 Mash-up do not count

6 Songs with two rappers of equal contribution do count.

There will be debate over what counts and what doesn't and I will defer to moderators if a serious dispute arises.

Nominations will close on Sunday 9th Nov at 23:59
Voting will commence the following day to close on Sunday 16th Nov at 23:59.

If this tumbleweeds into oblivion, so be it.
I've probably left some important things out - questions are welcome.

Questions that I'm sure will come up sooner or later after initial scouring so best to get them out of the way now:

1. Is a song that has a featured singer, not a rapper, only on for one verse or a similarly minimal portion of the song compared to the main singer eligible?

2. Two rappers are fine, right? So one could effectively nominate all of Watch The Throne for example (well at least that which doesn't have guest vocals because I think I'm right in saying that three vocalists will not count? - kinda a fifth question and one that'll surely spawn all sorts of debates as to what constitutes a vocalist with songs with sampling abounding)

3. Slightly related to that, as the example I'm thinking of is Numb/Encore, are mashup tracks of that sort allowed?

4. If the main artist is a producer and he has featured two vocalists, is that kosher?

I thought I had more duets in the traditional sense on my iTunes, quite a few of mine are rap/chorus duets, starting the cutting down now - so I may not need any of the songs covered by this but just to ask.

Does something like "Stan" by Eminem count because of the Dido sample, or is that not quite in the spirit of a proper 'duet'?

1. Is a song that has a featured singer, not a rapper, only on for one verse or a similarly minimal portion of the song compared to the main singer eligible? Give us an example, please. I would say it's more likely to qualify that the singer/rapper type

Two rappers fine, if it's more or less equal contribution.

3. Slightly related to that, as the example I'm thinking of is Numb/Encore, are mashup tracks of that sort allowed? Not valid as the tracks were available beforehand in other forms and the mash up wasn't intended as duet when those tracks were first recorded.

4. If the main artist is a producer and he has featured two vocalists, is that kosher? Yes, this is fine.

I will add these points to the Roolze.

This is a tough one. As with a mash up, at least one part of Stan was not intended as a duet so I don't this is entirely valid.

She needs to be present for it to a be a duet. Otherwise it's the wrong competition for Mr N'Dour. tongue.gif

And no slagging off Neneh Cherry who did actually invent trip-hop with Manchild! ohmy.gif
