I just watched the official trailer and it looks intriguing. It received negative reviews and I don't know why critics hate so much horror films. At least, they have a big fanbase. It's already a very successful film at the Box Office. I will go to watch it!

I enjoyed this. Like a lot of horrors though it is rather predictable and seen-it-all-before at times but there are some really good scenes in this. And if horror is your genre, this ticks most of the right boxes!

Very meh and uninspiring tbh. The premise was interesting but there were only a handful of good scares and they were recycled from other horror movies. It just wasn't scary and I scare easily

 Shame it had an interesting premise and didn't deliver at all

"Ouija" is a supernatural thriller which was released in my country three weeks ago. The producers cared to officially release it in U.S during Halloween so they could guarantee the success in the Box Office, which happened. It hit the first place and it had satisfactory earnings despite its very low budget. In recent years, it seems that audience loves to watch films about possessed people, demons and evil spirits. The big studios have released numerous films with this content and I imagine that at some point audiences will get bored seeing the same scenarios each time. It's a matter of time.
I'm a big fan of horror movies and I usually want to watch them in the cinema because the big screen and the digital sound which they have, create a greater feeling than to watch them at home. However,what turns me off is always the people who go to see these movies because they always want to make a fuss about things. It always happens in large multiplex, so we chosed this time to see it in a smaller multiplex cinema with the hopes that there won't have been a doom in the room. Of course, our selection was correct. There might have been mainly young ages in large groups, but at least they were quiet during the film with some "concerns/worries" occasionally. Just maybe, it was perhaps that "Ouija" was not so bad for the standards of these films. The Ouija board was intriguing as a script idea, but some elements of the story were tragic. For example, the company wanted to communicate with their dead girlfriend and they looked so serious. However, the leading actress Olivia Cooke was quite nice concerning her presentation and interpretation. Although other perfromances were all moderate, except for Shelley Hennig, who was the first victim, and the characters were not developed. It has some scary moments but generally though it's not one of the movies that create terror as it happened in "The Conjuring" and "Annabelle". You know what will happen in the end and it's predictable as hell. However, I can say that we were not getting bored during the plot and we would see it even better if we lived in a provincial town in the U.S.A. I imagine that Americans always make atmosphere before they see these movies because there are many who believe in supernatural phenomena. In contrast to them, my country's people regard Americans as ghost and spirit believing people therefore these movies do not always have the expected success in Greece. Of course, there are some exceptions. Nevertheless, they are very popular to young ages. "Ouija" was not so bad for the standards of a supernatural thriller. It certainly was not the "epitome of cinema", but it was not so bad as "Paranormal Activity" and "One Missed Call". However, it received negative reviews worldwide and its score is low from IMDb's members too. Personally, I will not even have it in the top ten of the worst movies I saw this year in contrast with some art films which were boring to death. I would recommend it only to the hardcore fans of this genre because I believe that most of them will not be disappointed about the result. |
