OMG I love this!!!

It;'s like a week long in Europe right?

Not sure we need it with the Boxing Day sales, but ok.

Whoever thought aboot bringing this idea over, whilst glaringly obvious, and took that first step was a market visionary.

I do take advantage of Black Friday on Amazon, mainly for a CD or DVD bargain.

For the past two years I've completely raided Amazon of everything they have to offer, but today the selection was utter tripe. Hope it gets better towards the end of the week.

ASDA and Currys/PC World are doing major discounts on Friday, but only the latter is online, so if anyone wants stuff cheap from their local supermarket they need to be prepared to queue and wait ages!

Personally I'm waiting for Cyber Monday purely because I'd rather get something electrical/gadgety as opposed to everything else that is on sale.

I fancy a new TV so I'm on the lookout for a decent one, but the one on Amazon today was rubbish. And I definitely don't fancy being in ASDA. There will be riots, I feel sorry for the staff!

I don't know if it was ASDA but somewhere is hiring extra security staff for the day. laugh.gif

ASDA's "big thing" this year is apparently a Seiki 39" 4K HD LED TV (link to Amazon page here as it's not on the ASDA website). Already only £319.99 so it just seems a bit underwhelming.

Nothing decent at all on Amazon so far, not even music! Got a good few classic albums last year for what I think was less than a tenner.

Literally never knew this was a thing over here until last year. I don't mind the whole online thing but the actual savagery in shops is awful. I hate it. Let's be thankful for what we have and the love we share for our friends and our families BUT GET THE f*** OUT OF MY WAY BITCH THIS PLAYSTATION IS ONLY $299.95!!!!!!1

Like what part of this is a) enjoyable and b) OK:

Does this actually happen in shops in the UK then?

I have never heard of it outside of Amazon...

Thank God I managed to escape Asda before Black Friday last year, it was literally carnage of the American Black Friday variety . It was the plot of Jennifer Government* acted out in real life. I shant be participating in the physical version this year, as I enjoy my health.

*Look it up and read it, it's rather fantastic.

It only ever used to be Amazon (due to it being an American company), then ASDA got involved a year or two back (because of Walmart's ownership). Now a lot of UK retailers do it, kind of like an early Boxing Day.

These people are absolutely banana's! I would probably go to the stores just to piss myself with laughter at these people.
The last part in the video Cal posted is the most ridiciously I've seen.

An 11 year old girl was trampled during the rush in a Walmart last year and had to be taken to hospital.

There have only been 7 noted deaths in the last 8 years due to Black Friday (3 due to car crashes coming home from Black Friday shopping, two at a Toys R Us shooting and two due to being trampled) and 90 injuries.

I agree, the selection was rather poor on Amazon today, hopefully there's better offers to come. I did buy The Walking Dead Season 4 on blu-ray though, for £18.75, down from £29.99.

Honestly had no idea Black Friday was a thing in the UK at all. Isn't it supposed to be a 'Thanksgiving' related... thing?

Amazon had the X Box one console up on offer today so I'm keeping my eyes pealed for a PS4 deal as I'd rather like that for Xmas so the chance to save a few pennies would be excellent.

The sales are ok, can be a lot of crap to wade through I find but sometimes you find exactly what you were after at a steal of a price.

Partly but one explanation for the term (there are several) is that the Friday after Thanksgiving is the day when retailers move into profit (i.e. the black). Other theories are available.
