Apologies if this topic has been covered here before.

If you contracted a incurable, terminal condition, especially one where you were totally helpless and/or in constant pain, would you want to end your life at a time of your own choosing?

Yep. Why keep someone alive just so they can suffer?

Hmm I think it varies on the predicament they're in. Lots of morality involved.

It's such a difficult question.

I do believe it should be allowed, it would stop people travelling to Switzerland to end their lives. If somebody is in that amount of pain then they should be allowed to die. I don't think I could ever do it to somebody no matter how much I loved them as it would be too heartbreaking.

Relieved people are picking yes teresa.gif

But the problem with people who can't choose i.e. a coma should their family members choose? If they were told the person would never recover from the coma...

You say that, but then there are also cases where people come back from comas when doctors said there was no chance. It's a grey area, and people will always cling on to hope.

Yes but I was trying to get to the more 'no chance' scenarios e.g. serious accident where they are in a lot of pain and will take days to die but cannot talk sad.gif
Let's hope as few people (victim and families) have to go through that as possible mellow.gif

It's a pity it's not available to anyone who wants to end their life for a considerable duration of time - like anyone who has experienced moderate to sever depression for an ongoing period who has gone through various methods of treatment - medication and therapies.

But no - they must endure this for the rest of their life. Anhedonia is another condition that would also apply, in my opinion.

But perhaps I am not thinking properly. Or so I would be told.

and why do i get the feeling you watched the same programme i watched?. (narated by terry pratchett)

yes, i think it should be allowed- and i know if i was in a situation like that, i would want my life to be ended.
