The old MTV European Top 20 chart, which had been broadcast on MTV Europe for more than 20 years, ended in 2012. However, it looks like since January 4, 2014 some European "chart" has started being broadcast again on MTV Europe. The chart is broadcast on Saturdays from 12:00 to 14:00 CET and on Sundays from 14:00 to 16:00 CET.
The chart seems to be a Top 40. However, not all the positions are shown - some of them are skipped each week. It's also notable that the Top 20 of the chart is a complete copy of the "Euro Top 20" chart that is broadcast on MTV Italy: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173582 The songs that are skipped on this "Euro Top Chart" seem to be one of two cases: either songs that aren't played on MTV Europe in general; or when an artist has more than one song in the chart, not all are shown. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe)
Here is the chart of January 10, 2015: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 Bring Me The Horizon - Drown 30 29 28 27 Union J - You Got It All 20 Down 26 Tove Lo - Habits 3 Down 25 Lilly Wood & The Prick - Prayer In C 24 Parra For Cuva - Wicked Games 23 OneRepublic - I Lived 3 Up 22 Labrinth - Jealous 2 Down 21 AronChupa - I'm An Albatraoz 2 Down 20 Fifth Harmony - BO$$ 19 Kwabs - Walk 5 Up 18 Sam Smith - I'm Not The Only One Stay => 17 Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat 3 Down 16 Clean Bandit - Real Love 7 Down 15 Blonde - I Loved You 14 13 12 Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding - Outside 1 Down 11 10 Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass Stay => 9 Olly Murs - Wrapped Up 5 Down 8 Oliver Heldens - Last All Night 7 One Direction - Night Changes 6 5 David Guetta - Dangerous 2 Down 4 Take That - These Days 2 Up 3 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud 2 Down 2 Taylor Swift - Blank Space Stay => 1 Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! 16 Up What's fantastic is that this time MTV Europe played 24 songs - I think this is the first time they have played that many! And probably it's as many as actually possible during a 2-hour broadcast... However, they are still skipping some songs week after week - "Fade Out Lines" by The Avener, "Sun Goes Down" by Robin Schulz and (especially scandalously) "Take Me To Church" by Hozier... "Uptown Funk!" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars makes an expected but still impressive 16-place climb to number 1. |

Here is the chart of January 17, 2015: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 27 Labrinth - Jealous 5 Down 26 25 Sia - Chandelier 24 Blonde - I Loved You 9 Down 23 Kwabs - Walk 4 Down 22 21 Echosmith - Cool Kids 20 Parra For Cuva - Wicked Games 4 Up 19 18 George Ezra - Blame It On Me 17 OneRepublic - I Lived 6 Up 16 Clean Bandit - Real Love Stay => 15 Idina Menzel - Let It Go 14 Oliver Heldens - Last All Night 6 Down 13 Sam Smith - I'm Not The Only One 5 Up 12 One Direction - Night Changes 5 Down 11 Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding - Outside 1 Up 10 Take That - These Days 6 Down 9 8 Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass 2 Up 7 Alesso & Tove Lo - Heroes 6 5 David Guetta - Dangerous Stay => 4 Taylor Swift - Blank Space 2 Down 3 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud Stay => 2 Olly Murs & Demi Lovato - Up 1 Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! Stay => Olly Murs shockingly scores a second consecutive number 2 in the chart with the duet with Demi Lovato, "Up" (a few weeks ago "Wrapped Up" also reached number 2)... And the appearance of "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel at number 15 is very, very curious... |

Here is the chart of January 24, 2015: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 Ariana Grande & The Weeknd - Love Me Harder 28 Sigma & Paloma Faith - Changing 27 Blonde - I Loved You 3 Down 26 25 24 Oliver Heldens - Last All Night 10 Down 23 Sia - Elastic Heart 22 21 George Ezra - Blame It On Me 3 Down 20 One Direction - Night Changes 8 Down 19 18 Sam Smith - I'm Not The Only One 5 Down 17 Take That - These Days 7 Down 16 Ben Haenow - Something I Need 15 14 Echosmith - Cool Kids 7 Up 13 12 Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding - Outside 1 Down 11 Alesso & Tove Lo - Heroes 4 Down 10 Clean Bandit - Real Love 6 Up 9 Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass 1 Down 8 Tchami - Promesses 7 David Guetta - Dangerous 2 Down 6 Olly Murs & Demi Lovato - Up 4 Down 5 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud 2 Down 4 Philip George - Wish You Were Mine 3 Taylor Swift - Blank Space 1 Up 2 Hozier - Take Me To Church 1 Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! Stay => I knew that it was just a matter of time! MTV Europe weren't so shameless as to skip the number 2 - so they FINALLY played "Take Me To Church" by Hozier! They did make a compromise - they obviously consider the video too controversial so they played a live performance of the song (although the original video can be seen at times on the wall behind Hozier)... And I really hoped that "Something I Need" by Ben Haenow wouldn't appear in the chart but at least it's not in the Top 10... |

They did make a compromise - they obviously consider the video too controversial so they played a live performance of the song (although the original video can be seen at times on the wall behind Hozier)... Very surprised they were ignoring Hozier given how well he is doing in Europe. They could just do their own edit of the video, as they do with thousands of videos anyway. |

Here is the chart of March 7, 2015: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 Florence & The Machine - What Kind Of Man 27 26 25 Taylor Swift - Style 24 LuvBug - Revive 23 Olly Murs & Demi Lovato - Up 5 Down 22 Ne-Yo - Coming With You 6 Down 21 Karen Harding - Say Something 20 Kygo & Conrad - Firestone 1 Down 19 Echosmith - Cool Kids 2 Down 18 Sia - Elastic Heart 4 Down 17 16 James Bay - Hold Back The River 1 Down 15 Philip George - Wish You Were Mine 3 Down 14 Charli XCX & Rita Ora - Doing It 6 Down 13 Meghan Trainor - Lips Are Movin' 3 Down 12 Avicii - The Nights 3 Down 11 Maroon 5 - Sugar 2 Up 10 Chris Brown & Tyga - Ayo 5 Down 9 DJ Fresh & Ella Eyre - Gravity 7 Down 8 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud 1 Down 7 Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! 1 Down 6 5 Hozier - Take Me To Church 1 Down 4 3 2 Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do 1 Down 1 Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds 2 Up And Rihanna scores yet another number 1 with "FourFiveSeconds"! I think she must be the artist with the most number 1 singles in MTV Europe's European chart... On the other hand, this is Paul McCartney's first chart-topper in a European chart by MTV Europe since "Hope Of Deliverance" at the beginning of 1993!!! |

It's also notable that the Top 2 consists of 2 songs from one and the same soundtrack. |

It's also nice to see "Are You With Me" by Lost Frequencies - a song that hasn't appeared in the UK singles chart yet - do well in this chart! |

Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe)
Here is the chart of April 4, 2015: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 27 26 25 DJ Fresh & Ella Eyre - Gravity Stay => 24 Chris Brown & Tyga - Ayo 1 Down 23 Calvin Harris & HAIM - Pray To God 22 21 Avicii - The Nights Stay => 20 Pitbull & Ne-Yo - Time Of Our Lives 19 18 Marlon Roudette - When The Beat Drops Out 1 Down 17 Taylor Swift - Style 1 Up 16 Kelly Clarkson - Heartbeat Song Stay => 15 Kygo & Conrad - Firestone 4 Up 14 Jess Glynne - Hold My Hand 13 James Bay - Hold Back The River 2 Down 12 David Guetta & Emeli Sandé - What I Did For Love Stay => 11 Hozier - Take Me To Church 3 Down 10 Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds 4 Down 9 Maroon 5 - Sugar 1 Up 8 Flo Rida & Sage The Gemini - G.D.F.R. 5 Down 7 Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! Stay => 6 OMI - Cheerleader 7 Up 5 The Weeknd - Earned It Stay => 4 Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me 10 Up 3 Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do 2 Down 2 Sam Smith - Lay Me Down Stay => 1 Years And Years - King Until now MTV Europe were skipping "King" by Years And Years... but they can't do that when the song has reached the top! And while "King" has had some success in several (non-UK) countries, it's one of the more shocking number ones in the chart! On the other hand, I find it amazing that "Are You With Me" by Lost Frequencies has managed to climb as high as number 4 without appearing in the UK singles chart! |

Here is the chart of April 11, 2015: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 27 26 Pitbull & Ne-Yo - Time Of Our Lives 6 Down 25 Chris Brown & Tyga - Ayo 1 Down 24 Marlon Roudette - When The Beat Drops Out 6 Down 23 Tough Love - So Freakin' Tight 22 Kelly Clarkson - Heartbeat Song 6 Down 21 20 19 Major Lazer, DJ Snake & MŘ - Lean On 18 Taylor Swift - Style 1 Down 17 Sigma & Labrinth - Higher 16 David Guetta & Emeli Sandé - What I Did For Love 4 Down 15 Kygo & Conrad - Firestone Stay => 14 Flo Rida & Sage The Gemini - G.D.F.R. 6 Down 13 Ed Sheeran & Rudimental - Bloodstream 12 Hozier - Take Me To Church 1 Down 11 Maroon 5 - Sugar 2 Down 10 The Weeknd - Earned It 5 Down 9 OMI - Cheerleader 3 Down 8 Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds 2 Up 7 Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk! Stay => 6 James Bay - Hold Back The River 7 Up 5 Sam Smith - Lay Me Down 3 Down 4 Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do 1 Down 3 Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me 1 Up 2 Years And Years - King 1 Down 1 Jess Glynne - Hold My Hand 13 Up This week "Hold My Hand" by Jess Glynne joins the "prestigious" list of the least deserving chart-toppers in MTV Europe's chart... A song shouldn't become number 1 in this chart just because it has reached the top in the UK singles chart! It should have success all around Europe... Another undeserving number 1 in the Euro Top Chart that comes to mind was "Changing" by Sigma and Paloma Faith... and, incidentally, this week Sigma appear in the chart again with "Higher" - another song that is yet to have success in non-UK European countries... |
