I'm confused as to why CHVRCHES are nominated as a breakthrough in THIS year - their breakthrough year was surely 2013, it's not like 2014 was a bigger year for their album or any of their singles. Their only appearance in the singles chart the entire year was a week at #52 with 'Get Away' in fact.

Pleasing to see alt-J get nominations for group and album! The nominations are largely very predictable this year on the whole, only real surprises are The War On Drugs getting a nod and FKA twigs being nominated for best female (over Jessie J lol). The major categories will mostly go down to Ed Sheeran vs. Sam Smith of course...

Eurgh. It gets worse every year. Why isn't Caustic Love up for best album? Not that Paolo would win and he certainly won't win best male.

Only thing I can hope is that Paloma will get best female but even then I'm doubtful.

If the performers are shit I'll give the whole thing a miss like I did 2 years ago in the year of Sande.

I'm really hoping Paloma gets her award!

Although she has experienced huge success before now, it always feels like she's not had her chance to truly shine when it comes to things like this.

Hopefully it goes (cba to do predictions, most of them are pretty much Ed vs. Sam but my pessimism makes me think they'll shower Sam rather then Ed, although both will get a couple, given he's a previous Critics' Choice winner)

Mastercard British Album
alt-J - This Is All Yours
Ed Sheeran - x (this is one of the best albums of the year but I only like this and Wanted On Voyage)
George Ezra - Wanted On Voyage
Royal Blood - Royal Blood
Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour

British Single
Calvin Harris - Summer
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
Duke Dumont feat. Jax Jones - I Got U
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Ella Henderson - Ghost
George Ezra - Budapest
Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne - My Love
Sam Smith - Stay With Me
Sigma - Nobody To Love

British Female Solo Artist
Ella Henderson (I'd be happy with her or Paloma, who is probably more likely. Wouldn't be upset with FKA Twigs or Jessie either although neither have a chance. Lily's album was significantly weaker than the others)
FKA twigs
Jessie Ware
Lily Allen
Paloma Faith

British Male Solo Artist
Damon Albarn
Ed Sheeran
George Ezra
Paolo Nutini
Sam Smith

British Group
alt-J
Clean Bandit
Coldplay
One Direction
Royal Blood

International Male Solo Artist
Beck
Hozier
Jack White
John Legend
Pharrell Williams

International Female Solo Artist
Beyoncé
Lana Del Rey
Sia
St. Vincent
Taylor Swift

International Group
5 Seconds Of Summer
The Black Keys
First Aid Kit
Foo Fighters
The War On Drugs

British Breakthrough Act
CHVRCHES
FKA twigs
George Ezra
Royal Blood
Sam Smith

British Video
Calvin Harris - Summer
Charli XCX - Boom Clap
Duke Dumont feat. Jax Jones - I Got U
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
One Direction - You & I
Rita Ora - I Will Never Let You Down
Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne - My Love
Sam Smith - Stay With Me
Sigma - Nobody To Love

At least Ed vs. Sam makes some of them interesting, I'd love Ed to beat Sam to all of the ones they're competing for laugh.gif

I agree, but pleased to see them get recognition this year at least, may be a sign that their next comeback will get more attention biggrin.gif

British Video seems really pointless, it's essentially the same as single except a few substitutes? How were the nominations chosen for that award?

Some acts are surprise and nice additions to the nominations, not that it'll matter as it'll obviously go down to Ed Sheeran/Sam Smith/whoever shows up, My predictions:

Mastercard British Album: George Ezra - Wanted On Voyage
British Single: Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
British Female Solo Artist: Paloma Faith
British Male Solo Artist: Sam Smith
British Group: Royal Blood
International Male Solo Artist: Pharrell Williams
International Female Solo Artist: Taylor Swift
International Group: Foo Fighters
British Breakthrough Act: Sam Smith
British Video: One Direction - You & I/Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

CHVRCHES, Sia, Alt-J, Duke Dumont or Clean Bandit surprising and getting their respective awards though would be great.

Think Royal Blood may be the 'surprise' winners in that category (plus they're performing). I'd be glad to be proved wrong with most of these.

It's the Top 10 most viewed I think! 'Boom Clap' immediately stands out for me if it isn't that though...

Hozier, Sia and Ella *.*

I Got U or Thinking Out Loud HAVE to win best video, the rest are average at best. Surely there have been more creative British made music videos that weren't necessarily #1 UK singles (Charli and 1D excepted on that front).

I really really hope that Paloma doesn't win best female. Would love FKA Twigs or Jessie Ware to get that mainstream recognition, the former especially.

There's usually an obvious contender for International Group but I can't call it at all. Foo Fighters haven't exactly been as ever-present as they were when they won in 2008.

Hopeful about Royal Blood but I fear they could end up with nothing. Sam Smith looks a shoo-in for Breakthrough, Group could go anywhere and their album wasn't THAT good.

That British female category is amazing.

Paloma was a dead cert but the other 4 are all suprises to me! And I am a fan of every one of them. Particularly excited for Jessie and FKA. Jessie's album has already had a major boost from this.

No nomination for Cheryl? Really?
2 number 1's last year and the first female artist to have 5.

This is a joke.

That fact aside, this was hardly a vintage era. Her album bombed, neither of her number 1s sold massively well & she's received next to no critical acclaim. It's not really that surprising.

Also the BRITs have never been particularly receptive to Girls Aloud or Cheryl before.
