What do you do/have you done concerning OCD?

Not to put down anyone with severe cases. This is meant to be a friendly discussion about what is/isn't OCD, habits and the like.

QUOTE
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition where a person has obsessive thoughts and compulsive activity.

An obsession is an unwanted and unpleasant thought, image or urge that repeatedly enters a person's mind, causing feelings of anxiety, disgust or unease.

A compulsion is a repetitive behaviour or mental act that someone feels they need to carry out to try to temporarily relieve the unpleasant feelings brought on by the obsessive thought.

For example, someone with a fear of their house being burgled may feel they need to check all the windows and doors are locked several times before they can leave the house.

OCD symptoms can range from mild to severe. Some people with OCD may spend an hour or so a day engaged in obsessive-compulsive thinking and behaviour, but for others the condition can completely take over their life.

What embarrasing things have you done because of OCD? Does it affect your life so much you waste hours of time or prevent you from doing things? Are these YOU? thinking.gif

I am quite particular with a lot of the things mentioned here though, particularly the food ones. Also taking steps in even numbers (so if my left foot takes 4 steps, so too does my right foot have to before i sit down).

I think you need to change that banana picture to the one that dances. It just doesn't look right and I have never seen it before drama.gif

Then you probably don't have OCD wink.gif

I have a cure for OCD that seems to work for me a lot of the time. Just say:

"it doesn't matter."

I don't have OCD really but the sandwich one makes me uneasy laugh.gif I have small things like the volume being on an even number on my TV for example but if you saw my room you'd know I'm too messy and disorganised and lazy for proper OCD tongue.gif

The one I hate is the gummy bears one that floats around the internet, where they're all arranged into colours in the bowl and they look like a pile of mashed up gummy bears which doesn't look too appetising!

OCD is actually a very serious issue for those who genuinely suffer from it, I would appreciate if you wouldn't throw the term around in such a jokey / casual way...

You have OCD then biggrin.gif but just not in a serious way.

I understand that, and in general this is about the less serious cases.

I don't suffer from OCD, but my DVDs etc all absolutely must be in alphabetical order. Can't hack it otherwise.

I reckon pretty much everyone has OCD imo

Just depends which end of the spectrum you are.

Though when it comes to handing in college assignments the exam boards must have pretty bad OCD

The way you have to put references, 2.54 line spacing/whatever drama.gif

drama.gif

It either means the served does not like it triangle cut or it possibly comes from two different sizes of bread?
EDIT or what Silas said. laugh.gif

On the subject, when I make myself a ham wrap it must contain 3 SQUARE PIECES and rolled up to cut into 12 PIECES. I must first cut up into 3 pieces, then cut into 12. When my mum gets the other ham types that aren't square drama.gif

I don't have OCD thankfully. I've seen some people with serious OCD on TV shows and I really wouldn't want to live like that.

I voted 'rarely' as I wouldn't say I absolutely never get ""OCD"" (in double quotations as it's more casual OCD than actual OCD)

I like to say I have 'legitimate OCD' in the sense that I know I need to read something several times in case I read it wrong (which I do, far too often here laugh.gif) which doesn't help drama.gif

The M&Ms picture REALLY irks me, not just the colour but some of the sections don't look symmetrical with each other. I tend to notice things like this and it annoys me a bit, not that I'm particularly OCD about most things.

Most of these things aren't so much OCD as obnoxious people attention-seeking because something looks a bit uneven and annoys them a bit.
