This is all very strange. Yesterday afternoon, there was a very loud noise in the sky here in Bournemouth. In the evening, there was something on the local paper's website to say that it was caused by RAF jets but no reason was given. Now we know ohmy.gif

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31049952

The strange thing is that there is no mention of where this happened. However, hundreds of thousands of Bournemouth residents know full well where it was because we heard it. There seems to be an effort to keep it all very low-key

Russia is hurting badly economically with sanctions and oil price crashes (caused mostly by the Americans' shale movements), it's Putins' way of trying to bluster and intimidate the West. What's he gonna do, bomb all of his customers for oil and gas! Not as if they need to actually fly over the UK, given spy satellites and google map.

More of a spoilt child reaction. He's lucky the British people don't randomly shoot down planes, unlike his friends in Ukraine....

Until very recently RAF Leuchars used to be the intercept point. At one point it was almost every month they were telling the russians to f*** off.

Well the Saudi's have come out saying they are quite happy to keep oil prices remaining at these low values for the next 8 years - the Russian economy is entirely dependent on oil ( a bit like Scotland's independent plan ) and thus with a price persistently below $80 is liable to collapse.

Russia's credit was recently re-evaulated as BBB by Fitch, just 1 above 'junk' status. You can now get 71 Rubles for $1, or to put it another way.. 1 Ruble is not even worth about 1p.

So they are throwing their weight around a bit, this won't work. As Putin will eventually discover.

Apparently the Express has claimed that one of the planes was carrying a nuclear missile. This has been denied by one of the local MPs who also happens to be a Foreign Office minister. Somehow, I suspect the minister is more likely to be telling the truth.

well, on the highly improbable chance that The Express has direct access to either the Military, or Superman's X-Ray Vision, then had a nuclear bomb gone off a distance from the coast in Bournemouth, there would at least have been the minor advantage of any remaining Housing in the area suddenly becoming affordable and very few politicians knocking on the door to persuade you to vote for them. Presumably, one vote should do it - their own.
