It's such a shame that this studio has been closed. I'm a big fan of the SimCity games and despite the setbacks witnessed during the last SimCity launch it turned out to be the best game yet.

Only question now really is who is gonna take Maxis place in the City Building Genre.

EA ruined them. Worst thing that could have happened to them was being bought over by EA who have steadily declined over the last decade to be an abomination of a company.

It's a shame anyway. I grew up with SimCity being a massive thing on super Nintendo, gameboy & PC. Hopefully someone fills the void and can do it justice.

But it was Maxis that made SimCity not EA and the general impression I myself get from that article is that they will support the latest iteration of The Sims & SimCity but that they won't continue to make anymore new games.

Colossal Order is releasing Cities: Skylines next week and it looks pretty damn wonderful. The most recent SimCity lacked a lot of basic features because they focused too much on other things. sad.gif

EA are obviously abominable but even beyond the release/unplayability issues, the most recent SimCity's design could've been a lot better and I don't care too much. Cities: Skylines might finally be the first modern city building game that's actually decent in over 10 years (there are also the Tropico and Anno series if you count them).

The Sims and SimCity will, however, continue on even without the studio that created them. Sister studios in Salt Lake City, Redwood Shores, Helsinki and Melbourne will continue their efforts in producing DLC content and mobile ports for both franchises.

Not too bad of a news for the Sims and Simcity then.

I haven't bought Cities: Skylines yet because my Macbook is from 2010 and it would probably combust if I even tried to download it, but from what I've seen and read it seems to be universally acclaimed. It's pretty staggering considering Colossal Order had about eight staff and they managed to develop a game far superior to Maxis' dodgy attempt. It has already sold over half a million copies. Ooops Maxis.
