A new streaming service is hitting us very soon!

QUOTE
Full details of the service will be announced during a press conference on Monday. However, according to TIDAL’s website, it’s “the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial.”

There are two paid subscription options: $19.99 a month for high-fidelity audio, and $9.99 for standard quality audio. TIDAL can be streamed on the web, and downloaded for iOS and Android devices.

Several artists have already thrown their support behind TIDAL, changing their Twitter icons to light blue and tweeting the hashtag #TIDALForAll. Among them are Kanye West, Rihanna, J.Cole, Nicki Minaj & Beyonce

http://tidal.com/us

All the big names are getting behind it, so i hope it's actually a GOOD service because i still can't behind spotify and other streaming sites!

It seems that way unsure.gif Going on the focus of HIGH-QUALITY it's probably to be expected.

Hoping there is at least a free version that is available too to trial it...

I'll stick with Spotify in that case. The sound quality on that is perfectly fine to me.

With Spotify being so successful, and more importantly, free, I don't understand what the point of this new service is. Why would someone pay $9.99 A MONTH for standard quality when you can easily get it free?

I find it strange but totally unsurprising that the only cause that seems to unite the world's major music stars is some snake-oil TOOT for terminally gullible people who wear Beats headphones when they walk down the street. Ooh, everyone turn your pictures blue manson.gif

It's going live this second. A whole heap of huge names own the company (and they're all on stage now talking about it). *_*

I can only really see this working if all the artists who are 'so excited' and 'passionate' about this take their music off Spotify (which could very well happen considering the amount of high profile artists involved)

Are many artists not tied up with contracts that decide what is done with their music?

A little bit more info:

"The goal for Tidal moving forward is to offer a music-streaming option that benefits both artists and listeners alike. With artists becoming increasingly frustrated with compensation from the likes of Spotify and others, it'll be interesting to see how Tidal keeps its musicians happy while offering an attractive slate of both regular and lossless tunes, as well as HD video and editorial content."

I feel bad for Spotify. If artists decide to take their music off it en masse then the company has been completely destroyed out of the blue. The poor owners.

Unfortunately, I feel it is going to come to that. sad.gif All the articles I've read have shown artists being annoyed at Spotify not compensating them enough. £20 a month is outrageous and I think artists removing their music from Spotify is the only way to get people to use TIDAL. I suppose the only thing that would be keeping artists on Spotify is that they do receive at least some sort of pay for it, but I think, from their perspective, they will get more from pulling out of Spotify than sticking with it.

Really hope this teaches Spotify a lesson and they begin to pay artists fairly for their work.
