West Ham yesterday parted company with Sam Allardyce and are on the lookout for a new manager. Big Sam did a good job at Upton Park, but I felt the time for a change had come.

I believe this is one of the best jobs on offer in Europe right now, or best 'project' at least. You've got a team based in London, about to move to the 55,000 capacity Olympic Stadium, the promise of significant funds available and even a half decent squad with potential to build. I know people may scoff at that very thought, but West Ham were fourth at Christmas this year, playing excellent football. The subsequent slip to 12th sealed Sam's fate but you can build a good team around players like Kouyate, Cresswell, Downing, Sakho, Reid and Valencia.

Intriguing summer ahead, with a plethora of managers linked to the job. Some outlandish (e.g. Klopp) and some horrifying (Redknapp). Who do people think West Ham will end up getting?

Personally, I'd be happy with Billic. He's an 'unknown', but that hasn't stopped the likes of Koeman. Would fit the club well and unite the fans.

Bielsa too would be amazing (obviously). I think his style of play may actually kill Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll though laugh.gif

And they also have a position in next season's Europa League through the Fair Play system.

I wouldn't call Billic an 'unknown' tongue.gif I remember his Croatia team against England in 2007!

Going to be a long season though, July 2nd start! But playing in Europe will be good experience, just might need to fatten out the squad a little.

Unknown in the Premier League, which the board are wary of. I agree his Croatia teams were great to watch, in both Euro 2008 and Euro 2012. Think Gold and Sullivan would prefer a British manager, which is why they keep hankering after Moyes.

Europe's gonna be great! They've got plenty of money to strengthen in the summer and hopefully the recruitment matches the Summer 2014 transfer window.

The Big Fat Frank song still gets sung regularly at Upton Park. laugh.gif

They could make an approach for Frank de Boer possibly.

Bilic is still favourite. Think the board would be very wary of Bielsa's pressing game with the extra-long season in mind.

They've announced £25m in the transfer kitty, but we spent £30m last summer so it's hardly going to reinvent the squad. A couple of free transfers (Konoplyanka, possibly Richards) would help. Trippier from Burnley if Jenkinson doesn't stay.

According to the infamous 'Sky Sources', West Ham have narrowed their chase down to four name:

Frank de Boer
Slaven Billic
Marcelo Bielsa
Unai Emery

All I think could be fantastic appointments and a step up from Allardyce. The board are hoping to make an appointment within the next 10 days.

This has uncanny parrarels to 2001 when searching for a replacement for Harry Redknapp. Turned down by Steve McClaren, Alien Curbishley & George Graham, we appointed little known Glenn Roeder which resulted in relegation two years later (probably the best team ever to be relegated - with 42 points! laugh.gif).

Crucial decision to avoid a repeat of that fiasco.

Interesting article in the Telegraph today, articulates my and many other fans feelings. Cannot underestimate the potential that's there to be utilised.

Looking forward to it. Not quite as exciting as some of the names suggested, but with the right signings it should be a decent season.

Yeah I agree with this. A lot of the names mentioned were a bit unrealistic for us! A transfer window like last Summer would be excellent, the mooted signings of Ayew and Opiang sound promising. A couple of technical or hard Eastern Europeans wouldn't go amiss either (Konoplyanka maybe?).
