QUOTE It’s 16 years since Britney Spears brought pigtails and knee socks back into fashion for anyone over the age of 9, but there’s more to Brit than inspiring a million easy peasy Halloween costumes up and down the country. top singlesTomorrow sees the release of Pretty Girls, Britney’s sassy team-up with Iggy Azalea. Very surprised that 'Sometimes' and 'Womaniser' have outsold Toxic! 'Toxic' always felt huge in comparison. It's such a shame that 'Everytime' is so far down though.
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative: 997,000 At least this will past 1 million, it would be good if it was reduced during 'Pretty Girls' and promoted so it could shift at least 1,000 copies. |

But what about other Britney singles like "Dont let me be the last to know" , "From the bottom of my broken heart and " I love rock n roll" and also that "stand alone" single she had when she was pregnant with her first child.

It's such a shame that 'Everytime' is so far down though. 2004 was just an abysmal year for sales! The cultural impact of said songs still remains in tact. It's similar to 'Crazy In Love' by Beyonce. A song which seemed HUGE/was everywhere but has "only" sold about 450k (last time I checked - which was a while ago tbf). The sales period for those eras were just terrible! Greatest Hits: My Prerogative: 997,000 At least this will past 1 million, it would be good if it was reduced during 'Pretty Girls' and promoted so it could shift at least 1,000 copies. Two more of her albums closer to the million mark than I thought they would be! Which is pleasing to see. But it saddens me that NONE of her albums post ITZ/the first greatest hits have sold enough to get top 5 in her best sellers. I thought 'Circus' might've overtaken at least! |

Since the last time we had a Britney update (December 2013), only 'Gimme More' and 'Lucky' have swapped places:
01 (01) BABY ONE MORE TIME 1 1999 1,540,000 (+15k) 02 (02) SCREAM & SHOUT (WITH WILL.I.AM) 1 2012 860,000 (+41k) 03 (03) OOPS I DID IT AGAIN 1 2000 475,500 (+5.5k) 04 (04) SOMETIMES 3 1999 456,000 (+3k) 05 (05) WOMANIZER 3 2008 446,500 (+6.5k) 06 (06) TOXIC 1 2004 425,500 (+17.5k) 07 (07) EVERYTIME 1 2004 365,000 (+30k) 08 (08) BORN TO MAKE YOU HAPPY 1 2000 340,000 (+5k) 09 (09) YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY 5 1999 290,000 (+4k) 10 (10) PIECE OF ME 2 2007 285,000 (+9k) 11 (12) GIMME MORE 3 2007 245,000 (+20k) 12 (11) LUCKY 5 2000 240,000 (+5k) 13 (13) CIRCUS 13 2008 223,000 (+8k) 14 (14) STRONGER 7 2000 210,000 (+10k) 15 (15) I'M A SLAVE 4 U 4 2001 200,000 (+20k) 16 (16) 3 7 2009 180,000 (+5k) 17 (17) TILL THE WORLD ENDS 21 2011 175,000 (+5k) 18 (18) HOLD IT AGAINST ME 6 2011 175,000 (+5k) 19 (19) I'M NOT A GIRL NOT YET A WOMAN 2 2002 170,000 (+5k) 20 (20) OVERPROTECTED 4 2002 165,000 (+5k) Estimates are from Shireblogger on Haven. seems ridiculous how Oops I Did It Again, Sometimes (I don't even recall this) and Womanizer are ahead of Toxic/Everytime in sales, good to see that they're trickle selling more than the others around them though.
Pretty Girls will probably not even break the top 25 in this I imagine, oops. It'll probably sell a similar amount to Work Bitch |

Lol, Sometimes above Toxic, Everytime etc. 2004's abysmal sales really show when you look at lists like this and classics from 2004 are often below forgettable tracks from other periods, just because sales were so bad then :/

Yeah I'm pretty sure if you asked someone in the street (who was brushed up on Britney's discography of course) whether 'Toxic' or 'Sometimes' was more remembered they'd definitely go for the former. I suppose the latter just has the advantage of being released in a thriving sales climate, while 'Toxic' was in one that was probably in its worst condition ever.
Glad that 'Scream & Shout' isn't really close to overtaking 'Baby...One More Time', that would've been a travesty. What a classic the latter is! This post has been edited by Jade: Jun 13 2015, 02:18 PM |

To be fair to Sometimes, it had a good chart run at the time, and it's one of her longest running singles in the chart. So it may not be looked back on too fondly anymore by most, but back in 1999 it was a big hit! The 33rd best seller of the year, outselling some of that year's #1s.
Obviously the impact of songs like Toxic is far greater (to say the least), but like others have said, 2004 was a pretty abysmal year for sales. It had a highly respectable first week sales figure (100k+) but beyond that I think it sold under 300k by the end of 2004? I was really glad when it eventually went Gold, that really is the least it deserves. Hopefully Everytime follows suit before long. (That single didn't even go silver in 2004!). I'm disappointed that they didn't reveal more album sales figures. I was most interested to know sales figures for her latter 4 studio albums. |

Britney's biggest problem are her catalog sales - they're tragic. |

It's a shame sales were so bad in 2004 because Toxic should rightly be no.2 on this thing.

CIL has sold over 600k. Britney's biggest problem are her catalog sales - they're tragic. every artist has singles which sells less and which sells more... depends how popular the songs are on the radio, tv shows etc.. her most popular songs are selling, there's nothing tragic about it.. i'm sure that Beyonce's 'Baby Boy' or 'Me Myself & I' are not selling as Crazy In Love or Listen.. right? |

Born To Make You Happy and Oops! are her best for me. I prefer them over Toxic and Everytime.

Crazy in Love has the current advantage of being on the 50 Shades soundtrack which will give it a good push in the years to come.
Nice to see Everytime sell quite a lot in trickle sales since 2013 but I guess it helps it's somewhat regularly performed on television on talent shows. I just wish they gave us sales for all her albums. |

My heart weeps seeing Scream & Shout as the second highest in this catalogue of (mostly) brilliant singles. Most were just unfortunate to be released in a low sales climate. The only comfort is it does give the list some current relevance with one in the top 10 being since 2010.
