Chart Highlights
  • Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" leads the Hot 100 for a ninth week, though it drops by 5% in overall activity. It tops Radio Songs for a fourth week and holds at #2 on Digital Songs (139,000 downloads sold) and Streaming Songs. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" increases by 2% in chart points, closing the gap between it and "See You Again". "Bad Blood" tops Digital Songs for a fourth week (206,000 downloads sold) and continues its rise on the airplay chart, earning Airplay Gainer honors for a fourth straight week with 128 million audience impressions. It can still return to #1, but we have to keep an eye on two other songs...
  • ...the first of which is OMI's "Cheerleader", which leaps into the top 10 this week at #7. The track sold 135,000 downloads last week, with 641,000 sold to-date. More than half of that total was sold in the last three weeks, according to Billboard, an indication of the song's quick rise. The song is also rising in the other two metrics; it's this week's Streaming Gainer, jumping into the Streaming Songs top 10 after being played 8.2 million times last week. Aside: the song "Cheerleader" replaces in the top 10, Maroon 5's "Sugar", quietly tied a record last week after spending its first 21 weeks in the top 10. The only other song to debut in the top 10 and subsequently spend that many consecutive weeks in the region was Nicki Minaj's "Starships" in 2012.
  • Further Down: The other track we need to keep an eye on is Rachel Platten's "Fight Song", which jumps into the top 20 this week at #19. It's this week's Digital Gainer, ranking just below "Cheerleader" on the sales chart at #4 (132,000 downloads sold), but it'll likely rule that chart in a week or two. #1 on the Hot 100 is still a long shot at this point, with airplay still building, but it's currently among the fastest-rising songs on the chart nonetheless. One spot below Rachel, Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On" moves up to two spots to #20. It's the first top-20 hit for Major Lazer, the third (and second this week) for DJ Snake, and the first for featured singer M. Below them at #24 is The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face", this week's highest-debuting song. The track, which is The Weeknd's 4th top-40 hit, enters at #8 on Digital Songs.
  • CMT Music Awards: After the CMT Music Awards on the 10th, seven country tracks make gains on the chart. The biggest positional gainer is Sam Hunt's "House Party", which rises 20 spots to #65. Among other benificiaries, Eric Church's "Like a Wrecking Ball" leaps to #53, Jason Aldean's "Tonight Looks Good on You" rises to #56, and Keith Urban's "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16" debuts at #86.
