be deaf or blind? (originally wrote deaf or blond lmao)

both sight and hearing are essentials so it's a difficult question but id probably lose my hearing much as i love music cos life would be so hard seeing nothing

Blind - if I were blind from birth. If not then deaf all the way.

Reasoning being, if you were blind from birth you would never know what sight was like so your other senses would probably grow a lot stronger and you would learn to cope, not having any conception of what you've lost, you would survive pretty well. Just need a cane and someone to help you adapt to areas you haven't learned to feel your way around.

If you were deaf you'd probably be mute too or at least have problems with forming words so a huge obstacle would be dealing with people who don't know sign language. It'd be so much harder to interact with people. Fine if you're a loner but not if you plan on making something with your life.

I'd rather be blind, tbh. My eyesight is already kind of terrible and then I can at least go all Art Tatum on the piano. Going deaf would just be absolutely horrendous for me.

Deaf, there's just so many things you have to see in the world, plus never seeing the people you love/knowing what the world looks like/knowing what YOU look like, just seems so horrifying. Losing the ability to listen to music would be horrible and life wouldn't be easy, but I'd at least see it.

Blind all the way.

To never hear another song, voice, heartbeat again would be heartbreaking. Looks fade after all.

Plus I'd rock a stick like hell!

This is true though. Being blind you'd have to get everything through descriptions of what friends say to you. Which would constantly remind them of your blindness. Sight is often the sense we rely on most.

I think not being able to express yourself easily would be just as bad though. It's a tough choice.

No question, I would rather be deaf.

Of course I would rather neither happen (and I would lose music </3) but imo, you're able to experience life a lot more through sight as, at least, you always know what you're doing. You can still see loved ones, see amazing sights, travel, read & watch TV etc all mainly unaided. Being blind shuts off a lot of opportunities.

Deaf, for certain. Yeah I'd obviously miss music a lot and stuff, but at least I could still watch TV/films and read and stuff.

I think sight is the most important of the 5 senses, so I'd much rather be deaf, tbh.

I have issues with noise anyway. I've always have trouble sleeping, I live in a noisy neighbourhood and hate it when people are irrationally loud.

If I had found someone that would be willing to live with with me for the rest of my life and look after me, I would rather go blind, I think. I enjoy music too much and I actually think being deaf could be more isolating than being blind so I would still be able to interact with people if I was deaf.

I'd rather be deaf, but I think both would be quite horrible. I'm already one sense down (smell), so hopefully the other 4 will stay faithful to me.

Unpopular opinion alert!

Blind. I have always for whatever reason been curious about how it is to be blind. As in walking with my eyes closed for a few minutes. Life could actually be a lot simpler, as dumb as that sounds. Of course you would need assistance and stuff but other senses would take over some of the eyesight responsibilities and become stronger so there's that too.

I don't think I'd handle being deaf very well. My biggest passion in life is languages so yeah. Although having to learn all of the sign languages of the world could serve as a KIND OF replacement.
