So on the 12th October this year, I'm leaving the house in London I've lived in for twenty years - and the city, and the country, and the continent - and touching down in Melbourne, Australia on a two-year working holiday visa. Half of me's excited and looking forward to it, half of me's wondering what the hell I've done.

Has anyone been or knows anyone who's done this before and has any tips or advice, or just generally moved away for an extended time? It won't be forever but it's going to be bizarre being away from my friends, family etc for so long. I have no idea what I want to do there yet :/ But hopefully it'll all go ok, and I'm pretty sure they've invented the internet over there so I'll still have Buzzjack to read at least tongue.gif

Well I moved to France last summer by myself. The thing is it's terrifying. You just have to be yourself and do you.

By working holiday, I assume there are others doing the same as you? If not. Great. Australia is known for backpackers and tourists.

Have a wonderful time. Live life your way and don't hold back!

(Oh and go watch Cherylyn Barnes & Delta Goodrem at any opportunity).

Ooh good luck and enjoy yourself! I've yet to have a proper holiday abroad. Let us know how it goes and be careful what you bring. I don't know if you've watched those Nothing To Declare episodes where they check your baggage and it seems rather strict!

I did the exact same thing in New Zealand although only for a year. Very apprehensive in the lead up to it but once the jet lag had passed I thoroughly enjoyed my time out there and I have no doubt you'll be the same after the first few nervy days or so. Make the most of your time there as before long you'll notice it'll go extremely quickly! biggrin.gif

Hmm well I moved from Estonia to Ireland with my mum when I was 11, and still live in Ireland now. It was really a bizarre experience for me at first. I was terrified and excited at the same time, which seems to be the way you are feeling too.

I am not very good at the advice thing... Just remember, this period of confusion is temporary - you will most definitely settle into it! Just stay optimistic and good luck, keep us posted happy.gif
