Kanye West has announced that he wants to run for the US presidency in 2020 at the MTV Video Music Awards.
It is not clear exactly how serious the rapper was being and he appeared to confess to smoking cannabis before taking the stage.

very much doubt this will actually happen but what if he did?! Would you want him to anyway? (it's a no from me)

What's interesting about Kanye is that for all his egotistical ways, he does get through to people. When George Bush stepped down from being President, he said that of all the (some would say fair) accusations that were thrown in his direction, the only one that truly hurt was when Kanye said that he "didn't care about black people" following the response to Hurricane Katrina. When he talks, people actually do listen.

However, he would not be a good president. Although that shouldn't stop him from talking about things that matter. As long as those things aren't Kanye.

I still don't know why people hate Kanye. The thing with Taylor was six years ago.

That said, no to the president thing, but he should keep doing him.

I don't think Taylor has anything to do with it. It's more is smug personality and his delusional views
(Aka Kanye is a god and Kim didn't get her fame because of the porn)

Taylor has nothing to do with it. In fact, I believe her to be as much a twat as he is.

People think Kayne is a twat because he is in fact a complete twat. The Taylor thing is just a small part of that twatishness.

While I believe that Kanye has more intelligence than Bush, who had the IQ of a foetus, he'd still be an unmitigated disaster. He's so self-involved and straight up delusional.

For all the things that Kanye is notorious for, people often take for granted that he's also a powerful black man who has an acute understanding of how race intersects with every facet of life in America. All of that stuff always gets lost in translation, and that's partly down to his persona, sure, but it's also down to most people (white people in particular) refusing to take anything he says seriously. Who knows if his bid for president is actually serious (even if it was, his campaign would basically be treated as Donald Trump 2.0 in the media, however fairly or unfairly, so it would be doomed to failure from the start). But he often says things that no one else of his stature is willing to say, and sometimes I wish our president were half as bold as he is.

Eh, why not? Let him run. People wouldn't take him seriously but out of 'music stars becoming political leaders' he'd be reasonably high up at the least. And I can't imagine him running for the Republican ticket so that's half the battle done right there.

(and then in the hypothetical event he gets the nod we'd ensure a Republican presidency that year okay maybe this isn't a good idea)

Not like our candidates for the next four years are an improvement.

anyone with an ego problem (as in "I am right and everyone else is wrong") should not be allowed to run for political office as they are permanently blinkered to reality and reason. That applies to most actual politicians, so Kanye should fit in quite nicely....
