I think it will be #1 (but might not be) - maybe pushing 30k if that?

I think it'll be #1 with around 35k. The last album sold 48k or similar in its first week. But she isn't as popular as she was, album sales are down and her radio support is less than usual. But I still think she'll manage a front-loaded #1.

Her main competition is Rudimental, who's album doesn't seem to be doing amazingly in pre-orders compared to Lana but has been out there to pre-order for about 8 months, so I'm sure they've amassed a lot of sales. There is also Cliff Richard and David Gilmour - both of which might sell lots of physicals.

But how long will it take Cliff's fans to get to record shops on their zimmer-frames? kink.gif

Not sure about the entry position, top 3 for sure, although I think it will struggle to reach 25k in all honesty, the hype around it is next to zero and the sales are bound to be markedly down on Ultraviolence's opening. Willing to be proven wrong though!

I'm predicting a number #2/#3 debut with opening sales of around 26,000. I would like her to get a third #1 album though.

It's holding up rather well on iTunes. Currently #35 and hasn't really fallen out of the top 100 since it was put up for pre order.

Looking at the Amazon physical charts, I think it's actually looking very likely that David Gilmour will nab this #1 from Lana, unfortunately.

Given how much Ultraviolence under-performed with my expectations, I can see this doing half as well. Aside from Tumblr, there really has been no hype. I'm sure 20k+ is easily do-able but will probably just make Silver in the long run, unless she has some solid songs as singles in the future.

How much as Ultraviolence sold in total?

Born To Die is near enough at a million isn't it?

Ultraviolence re-entered the top 200 about a month back. I think it's on 170k. I'm sure it would have continued to sell if they didn't give up after 2 singles, not that it was brimming with material.

Or even tried in the first place! tongue.gif 'West Coast', I thought, was a weak lead single and took me ages to get into, and I only tried because I loved her Born to Die album so much. 'Shades of Cool', 'Ultraviolence' and 'Brooklyn Baby' were all apparently singles (and great choices for they're pretty much the only good songs on the album) but it was so hard to know what was the 'current' single - one moment a video is released, then one's getting airplay in some countries then another one gets Radio 1 playlisted. I think the record company just threw whatever out as soon as possible to try and get the album to stabalise, but failed miserably. If they got it right from the beginning, they could have disguised the fact the album isn't up to scratch with some commercial success.

It's not really going right this time round either. They've lost the hype that Ultraviolence had from coming off the back of a huge album and 'High By the Beach' hasn't captured the public's interest. It's a little 'West Coast' but I'm liking it a lot more and more quicker this time, but there's been issues with radio supporting it due to its content and I don't think Lana has performed it anywhere. At least they're 'pushing' just the one single right now, instead of 3 at the same time!

Sales: 33.9k? tongue.gif

It's going to be ridiculously frontloaded, and even as a huge Lana fan myself I haven't seen much hype around the album (apart from her fanbase, where there's actually more than there was for Ultraviolence) but the thing with Lana is that I don't think she's ever seemed that fussed about commercial success, or at least not as much as some artists rolleyes.gif Ultraviolence didn't sound like she was making it to be a hit album with hit singles, whereas Born To Die was full of single-worthy music written for the charts, and from what I've heard so far Honeymoon sounds more similar to Ultraviolence than Born To Die.

But no... this won't be hanging round very long in the charts, but will be frontloaded enough to get her to number 1... I think... wink.gif
