Does it put you off a song if it's hard to understand the lyrics or could you not care less?

The lyrics of a song aren't really the main thing I go for so I don't mind too much, Sia for example I think has a great voice even if her diction isn't the best.

I mean I guess sometimes but generally no, I actually find it quite amusing if what they're saying sounds like something else laugh.gif

I can understand Sia! She's honestly not that bad, you just have to pay attention to her a little bit more than other singers (in some ways this is good because it encourages attention). And her voice is endearing enough so that for those that I don't know well enough yet so there's no problem.

Lyrics become more important to me in a song the more I love it, if a song has crap lyrics then that will probably stop it reaching the next level, if it has good lyrics it can reach that next level, so by the time I've gotten to the point where I care about the lyrics, I do normally understand them because I've been paying attention.

In most cases, No. But it can be annoying.

I can't think of a case right now. Mishearing lyrics can be great fun.

Victoria Beckham singing "Templeogue, you're out of you mind", Templeogue being an area in Dublin comes to mind.

Generally no. I have been a little annoyed with poor/odd pronounciation of words in the past in some cases, some of Tori Amos' songs for example, and yet she remains one of my favourites. I guess poor diction can get a little annoying also, but not to the point where I would ever vote "yes" in a poll on Buzzjack asking me if poor diction puts me off a song.

Sia and Joanna Newsom produce some of the most amazing and ikonec songs in their respective genres so no. In fact why the f*** would diction even matter?! It's all a bit too alexrangey.

Yes, but it is still the point of not understanding the lyrics.

Eh, sometimes. I'm not usually massively bothered by a songs lyrical content, but at the same time I do like to be able to actually KNOW what is being said. For example Paper Light by Loreen, melodically it's very good but I can only understand about 5 words of the chorus so my enjoyment is really limited by that.

I don't mind if I can't understand the lyrics in a song. I'm often too mesmerized by the music anyway to pay too much attention to the lyrics. A good lyric can be amazing though, of course, but it doesn't limit my enjoyment if I don't understand them.

Not especially, I like to understand what is being said but I usually just Google (Sia) song lyrics eventually and learn it.

Besides, 'Problem' was my 15th favourite song of last year and to this day I still haven't the faintest idea what she's actually saying in the verses of that song.

Yes with Sia on her pop stuff (Chandelier aside) but not her earlier stuff. I know that sounds weird but it doesn't annoy me so much in Breathe Me or Clap Your Hands for example.

To be quite honest, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I usually listen to music for the music itself and not the lyrics, and more often than not just treat the vocalist like an other instrument. If it really stands out as being bad or good, however, I will notice (same goes for lyrics). I just don't care if I can understand what they're saying half the time.
