Likely to top the chart again, for a 5th non-consecutive week, is Justin Bieber with 'What Do You Mean?', however the #1 on sales-only looks set to be Jamie Lawson's re-release of 2011 single 'Wasn't Expecting That'. Jamie is currently signed to Ed Sheeran's label Gingerbread Man Records. Other new entries to the chart this week should be the OA/OS releases of The 1975's 'Love Me', Olly Murs' 'Kiss Me' and 5 Seconds of Summer's 'Hey Everybody!' (which samples Duran Duran's 1982 #5 hit 'Hungry Like the Wolf').

Following Rudimental's 23k sales that got them to #1 last week, the #1 is likely to change again for the 12th consecutive week, although who it'll be is quite uncertain at this point. Top 10 contenders, and all possibly standing a chance at hitting #1, are The Game's The Documentary 2 (the sequel to 2005's The Documentary, with a 2.5 edition set for release on the 16th October), Faithless' Faithless 2.0, Selena Gomez' Revival, John Grant's Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, and Tom Jones' Long Lost Suitcase. Other new entries should include Reverend & The Makers' Mirrors, Hurts' Surrender, The Enemy's It's Automatic, Lemar's The Letter and City and Colour's If I Should Go Before You, whilst Gabrielle Aplin's Light Up the Dark may return to the Top 40 following her performance on Graham Norton Show.

So proud to live in a country where Jamie Lawson's "Wasn't expecting that" isn't going to be number 1. Although 3 is bad enough.

Next week's album chart is going to be summarised by "who on earth is buying that".

Hopefully it can be kicked out of the top ten similar to the Vamps but it's showing more staying power (for now).

Going by that "who on earth is buying that" comment, I'm guessing Tom Jones' cover album is currently #1? Unless Mint just doesn't like rap music and The Game is #1?

Blimey, Biebz getting a 5th week at #1? I would have preferred no more than 3 weeks ideally but I guess quiet release weeks don't really help.

Hoping 1975 and Olly can catch a decent place this week!

I do like acts staying longer at #1, but I wish it wasn't cut short by returning back to the top, it just makes the database looking like a list of 1 weekers. I never thought Justin would manage 4 weeks at #1 non consecutive, and could be heading for a 5th week manson.gif Sales are going to be rather awful for the week.

well I do hope Justin Bieber is #1 again. A world where Jamie Lawson is #1 is not a world I want to live in, though I presume it's going to stay in the charts for an absolute age anyway, JOY

The Game's album is probably #1, and with the second installment of the record out on the 16th, he might end up being #1 in two consecutive weeks with different albums, that's if The Documentary 2.5 will chart as a different album.

Or then it's Ed Sheeran

That would very well go with that comment by Mint Royale, just add the word "still" in that

Problem wasn't the first sales+stream combined #1 for nothing!

I really like the Jamie Lawson track. Top 10 would be lovely for Olly first week but given this is his first OA/OS I'm not expecting given recent performances (Little Mix and The Vamps, I am looking at you). Then again, already its airplay has been quite strong so who knows? I think it'll be a slow burner.

Sales have been terrible this year because of streaming AND the complete lack of awareness by record companies that holding back releases has harmed sales.

But we get the last laugh! (See: Anton Powers demoted from 1 to 4 last week) biggrin.gif

It's not as if Anton Powers had a chance of going to #1 if he did release OA/OS. If anything 'Alone No More' would have peaked 20+ places lower and not sold as much as it's going to now. Some songs just need the held back strategy to be honest.

Exactly, but this release strategy will become less and less effective as download sales continue to collapse.

The SCHADENFREUDE at this is very satisfying though. Years of utter bollox getting to #1 when it has no actual popularity is finally coming to an end.
