An American woman (obviously) has sued her nephew for greeting her too enthusiastically when he was eight. She didn't even allow the fact that the boy's mother died last year to stop her trying to extract a sum of money incomprehensible to someone of his age (he is now twelve).

Thankfully, common sense prevailed. The jury took just 25 minutes to decide to award her precisely nothing.

I hope she will be landed with the bill for her nephew's costs.

Of the damage done, Connell testified that she did not complain at the time, but she said her life had been “very difficult” since the injury because of “how crowded it is in Manhattan”. “I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate,” she reportedly said.

That has got to be a fake story surely? That last paragraph (quoted above) made me chuckle. laugh.gif

That child should have definitely known better. What 8 year old behaves like that?! I think she should also try suing his dead mother.

I'd love to think it was a joke, but it does appear to be true.

Ha! He should sue her for not being in control of a minor in a hazardous situation. All she had to do was shout Stop! If she's so feeble that she can be knocked over by a child she should stay away from children. Funny how people decide they are scarred mentally and physically years after the event when there's money at stake....

Some of the comments suggest that she started the legal action before the boy's mother died. Whether the mother died suddenly or from a long-term illness, I don't know.

She strikes me as one of those "customers from hell". You know the sort that will complain about anything to try and get whatever she can from moaning over the littlest thing!

Yes, I too feel the apocalypse and the destruction of all we hold dear closing in every time I read about notably exceptional cases of people being stupid and selfish.

I AM LOVING THE "(OBVIOUSLY)", and "ONLY IN AMERICA".

Those God damn Americans, all acting unsensible... because we are all one being. I'm not one to usually gripe about people being politically correct, but Suede, you've always seemed to me like a very intelligent member of this board. I'm surprised that those comments were even added. I've been posting on this board, and at one point was the only active American member in the community. With that being said I have encountered these comments several times over my 9 years on this forum and it seems to go through one ear and out the other when I explain my frustrations over these said comments. I would never post an article where someone was acting like a dumb twat and add (Only in the UK!), but if you'd like me to provide some examples I'd be more than willing to reciprocate.

It's very simple, quite f***ing frankly. Don't generalize an entire country to make it seem like we would act like this. I'm guessing that was not your intention, but it comes across rude AF.

Sincerely,

An American that gets irritated by people like this woman, just like you.
