Now that this 'decade' of Eurovision is over, what was everyone's favourite contest of the past 10 years? And what was it about that contest for you, was it the quality of the competing songs, the staging and production of the contest? Maybe the hosts swung it for you or it was the voting and the winner?
---
For me, it has to be Belgrade 2008. And it's purely for nostalgic reasons. It was the first contest I properly watched, including the semi finals, after being a casual viewer of the final for many years before. It was such a high quality year of songs which helps tremendously. Euroband, Sirusho, Ani Lorak, Kalomira, Maria Haukaas Storeng and poor brave Gisela, Morena and Rebeka Dremelj providing 10/10 moments of life! And of course not forgetting la grande dame Charlotte Perrelli! *.* OK so the winner was a bit of a downer and they were a few horrendous entries (hi Andy Abraham) but the good stuff was enough to make me want to get totally invested in the contest, and from 2009 onwards I started getting into the national finals. So my love for the Eurovision blossomed from the 2008 contest which is why I love it so much. heart.gif

Ranking them:
01. Belgrade 2008
02. Moscow 2009
03. Baku 2012
---
04. Malmö 2013
05. Copenhagen 2014
---
06. Helsinki 2007
07. Düsseldorf 2011
08. Vienna 2015
---
09. Oslo 2010
10. Athens 2006

The quality of the entries is my main reason to enjoy a contest, which is why Malmö isn't in the top block. I mean Petra, the interval acts and general hosting of the contest was second to none, but they're aren't many entries I go back to regularly compared to Belgrade/Moscow/Baku.

Accounting for everything, 2012 would have to be my favourite year of the last decade. Between Loreen, Sofi, it being the first year I followed it properly in the build up including watching MF, the first year I had a viewing party on final night (which I've had for all years since *tongue pop*) and it generally being full of very good songs it's not been able to be topped.

I'd need more time to decide on a rank of all ten of the contests but basically, everything is at least 'good' except for the pit of darkness and despair that is 2007 (Verka aside).

Probably 2012 if I had to pick. I have played all the songs (that were good) from there too much and it was a great experience from beginning to end to follow, the first one I followed in full immersion mode, and the contests since have been good but overly filled with ballads so I can't really say they were the best even if they were rather good.

From before, there were some great moments earlier on and all of the four that I didn't watch in this list are pretty strong just on the song list, even if 2009 has a few too many duds, I'd say everything's pretty good aside from a pretty awful 2011.

2012 > 2010 > 2007 (come fight me) > 2008 > 2013 > 2006 > 2009 > 2014 > 2015 > 2011.

Ooh we joined the fandom at the same time Adam and all those songs you mentioned were anthems indeed.

I have to say Moscow, just everything about it. The staging, the postcards, hot mess hosts, a stellar final from what I remember and the UK actually having a great song that got a brilliant result!!! Even if I wasn't as on board with the winner as some people tongue.gif

2010 was pretty great too in terms of my favourite from the moment I heard it winning, and a fantastic runner up too heart.gif

i am judging based on number of great songs mostly.

My favourite is 2007 easily. Then 2008 followed by 2009. The holy trinity for me. Then there's a set of 2010, 2006, 2012, 2014 in no particular order. 2013 and 2015 are bottom three. 2011 dead last.

I find it really difficult to order these, but Copenhagen 2014 is my favourite - amazing songs, amazing stage, good presenters and also the first time they showed all the press conferences etc. on the website which was very good for me! 2009 and 2012 would probably complete my top 3, then 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 would be in the next batch and then the rest in some sort of order with 2010 potentially my least favourite. Not too sure though!
